Easton S19 helmet

Recommended Posts

Last year I threw my old Bauer 5000 on to re size while watching the pens in the playoffs. They ended up scoring so I wore it every game until they lost. I'm not very superstitious but it was good for a laugh. Oh, and JR, I also enjoyed the fit of the S9 in a medium.

Spoke to Easton - looks like we're going to go with a L. When I get it, there will be an one-time used M available to a lucky MSHer to test.

Care if a 11 year old tests it JR? Moving into checking this year I will not short him on head protection. Visited the LHS today, WOW is this helmet light. It will be interesting to see if the size adjustment holds up....The baseball hat size adjuster seems a bit under-engineered. I cracked him up side the head a couple times.....joking of course but he looked at me like I did not touch him. He was actually amazed he could not feel it.

Initial thoughts after wearing mine last night for the first time.

Unbelievably light obviously. Overall comfortable with no pressure points. Pretty good airflow.

After the first couple of shifts I found it starting to slide down my forehead so I had to adjust it a couple of snaps tighter at the back.

This helped a little but it felt like it kept wanting to creep down my forehead. I'm not sure if was the helmet itself or the combination of the helmet and cage set-up. I'm going to flip the front clips and make a few adjustments before next time out to see if that helps.

Other than that it was impressive. Just pulling it out of my bag surprised me again at how light it is.

The look is growing on me. I want to give it a try, hoping it won't be like the 8K and 9500 which were bought and were sold not too long after I got them in. Need a new black helmet too since my 4500 is cracked. :(

Mine should be here sometime next week. I'll post up a few pictures once I get it in. Hoping it fits correctly so it can be new referee helmet and my S9 can be retired to my player bag.

Already have a tester in mind.

Easton is sending me a L on Tuesday.

mnpucker - I couldn't give it to him anyway - I removed CSA/HECC stickers.

No problem JR.

when will it become available?

Select dealers in larger markets have a small inventory in stock now to support the Olympic launch. Full release is scheduled for April/May.

Just Hockey on Don Mills in Toronto has some. I was there on Monday and saw 2 or 3 mediums and 2 or 3 smalls. I was there today and it looked like they were almost sold out as they had one on display and 2 boxes under that. Perhaps they had more in the back though. They were priced at $199 CDN plus tax.

I'd already seen and looked at the helmet at the MSH skate, but I still haven't tried one on yet as I'm pretty sure I'd need a large and didn't want to try to cram my noggin into a medium. That and the fact that I just picked up an M11 in December.

To the MODS that have held it and tried it on, how does it compare to the Bauer 9500(9900)? I was thinking about upgrading my Bauer 8000 to the 9900 when it comes out, but this has me thinking about the Z-shock. I also have an Intake that I'm using with the Recon X200 shield, but don't like the Intake as much as my 8000. Recon doesn't (or didn't fit while made by Itech) on any large bucket but the Intake.

Tried one on yesterday and while it definitely is lighter, I'm not sure how much effect that would have on my game.

However, this thing is stiffer then anything else out there. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get shot in the head with it and not feel anything. Very stiff, very low profile but still seems to cover your entire head. A really nice helmet, and considering the 8k was $200 when it came out I don't think the price is bad at all.

And the Carbster was $150 more than a decade ago.

Looks hella ugly.

Anybody know about Reebok though? The 8K is amazing, but will they have a new one to compete with all these other helmets coming out? My old 8K is about to expire, lol.
