The figure skaters in our rink get less than 9 months out of top end Graf, Riedell, Jackson, Harlick, and SP Teri boots. When they are on the ice 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week, and jumping triples the leather boot breaks down from the constant landing impact of jumps.......

Those are what I would call VERY SERIOUS skaters.... People looking to win Nationals and go to Worlds.. not too many have that kind of money or dedication. I haven't heard of too many around here putting in that much time.... could be why they are not really too many national level skaters.

Can't wait to get mine in. They tried like hell to talk me out of having them get ICMs put in, which was likened to "dating a supermodel with one tit."

PLEASE put those up on PHEW when you get them, I want to see the Phewtard reaction to those.

That's hilarious! Come out here to CA and no one has any idea what anything is. I could wear a brand new pro stock pair of gloves or skates and no one is the wiser. My only problem is that they do notice the constantly rotating gloves :)

I might have to disagree with you on this one, I've skated all over the LA/ Orange County area and you would be surprised of what players know about equipment. If you skate in the Elite division at the TSC in El Segundo, it's a showcase of all the new upcoming equipment, especially from Team Easton.

My bad man, I should have said northern California. I moved back up here this last year, there were definitely tons of gear whores in LA. But up here, especially as far away from San Jose as I live (which is kinda the hub for norcal), people could care less about equipment.

Does the One100 also have the wider toe cap? (I'm assuming no?) And are the toe caps on these skates able to be punched out?

Hmm, I thought the catalogue would have addressed this. I'm pretty sure the toe caps are the same ergonomic fit on the supreme series. I want to say its also the same on the vapor series but I'm not 100% on this.

They call the toe cap on the Vapors, speed wrap toe cap and I'm pretty sure they're different from the ergo toe cap. I'm not so sure about the width of them, but the ergos seem longer than the speed wraps

Sort of an odd question, thought it might be relevant in this thread.

Since this skate is such a big opening item thing and there are people that I'm sure are awaiting the arrival of it, how do the companies that sell these things ship them to the brick and mortar retailers? I'm assuming things like these skates, IPads, etc... are shipped and arrive at the stores a couple of days in advance of the actual release date just to counteract any possible issues in shipping like the weather, roadway accidents/delays, etc...

Is this how this sort of thing works?

I would assume so. I think with any product launch be it shoes, electronics or hockey gear it arrives beforehand. I know specifically with shoes they used to come with a sticker that had their release date on it so you knew when you could sell them.

I think with most hockey gear it just filters out once it's available. This is the first time I can recall in which a skate has actually had a release date to it as opposed to a general date in which they will be available. The x:60's had a showing date of March 3rd I believe in which the graphics were shown but after that they found their way to stores and were available as of "insert date here". Even with the one95's Bauer had a countdown on their website but I had mine a couple days before hand; the store just called me when they got their shipment in. This is the first time I think Bauer is actually making them hold onto the skate until that day to sell it.

It's hard to say, as it is somewhat of a new practice. They normally show up a couple of days before the release date.

Your store didn't follow the rules; retailers were supposed to hold them.

Maybe I remember wrong, I just know that they were still sorting through the shipment because it had just arrived.

On a side not (after reading the start of this thread where you said your test pair was most likely the same as retail) I was in my lhs last week and they said that they had just gotten their second sample set (the one for their skate wall) because Bauer had made some final changes. Anyone know what these changes were?

They go a couple days early. I know there is a local shop now that has all the new Bauer gear out on its shelves today since they have a hockey tourney going on there and I guess took the chance to put it out and hope Bauer doesnt get mad.

The local shop I go to is pissed cause they are playing by the rules even though the national tourney is also being held at their rink too. I was in the shop when a player came in yesterday and said the other rink had the new gear out, I went by today to verify and sure enough, there it was. 9900 helmets, full Vapor X:60 protective gear and gloves, and the skates on the shelf.

The place I shop is pissed, but not going to throw the other under the bus to Bauer, even though they'd like to cause the kids in the tourney are all talking about how the other shop is "better" since they have all the new gear already.

You had better believe if I was the shop that was playing by the rules and found out the other shop was starting early, I'd be making a call to my rep to ask "Hey, how come shop XXX go an authorization to put their stuff out early and we didn't?" Don't rat em out, but put the information out there and find out whats going on.

Especially in a market like this where there is now a perception that one store gets something earlier than the others, it could end up being a long term negative effect towards the stores that are holding back on releasing the product until they are supposed to.

#1. That email was already sent regarding the early delivery. IMHO, not a smooth move.

#2. TOs have a ship date of 4/12. I checked my acknowledgement to confirm this.

Exactly what I told him he should do. I've worked and managed retail (not in the hockey business but it all works the same) and sure as hell I would do it. You do it in a diplomatic way and not "tattle" on them, but you got to look out for your own business and not get walked on if a company is granting certain rights to another shop that you should be getting as well.

The more interesting one is that he has a bunch of Easton stuff in the back as well, apparently waiting to display. The Easton rep was at the shop on Thursday when he found out about the Bauer stuff. He asked him straight up if the other shop had the new Easton out and the rep told him right there...NO.

Well, all the new S19 Easton gear was out at that store too. Hmmmm?
