JR Boucicaut

Bauer Supreme TotalONE

Recommended Posts

Now that it appears the TotalOne has been used in the NHL by Jordan Staal, I was wondering. Will the TotalOne be the only Supreme skate used in the NHL or will the One100 also be used? And have we seen a photo of the One100 yet?

I have to say WOW!!!! I don't think I have ever seen so much hostility in one thread over a pair of skates no less. Guys, there skates. Not the plague, WW3 or the end of the world for that matter. JR, I give you mad props for being so Zen through all of this my friend.

Well put rhino. These skates will be no different than any other latest and greatest technology. Some will love them, some will hate them, and some will be mad these magic skates did not make them faster or put them in the NHL.

I've read the last update of JR's long term review and I think the flaw of the skate is going to be the alive inserts in the tongue just because they can crease. If you're a bigger guy and don't care that much from the support of the tongue, so you're going with the medium, you are sure going to crease them and I don't think they we're supposed to work like that. Again if you're a big guy and you put the X-stiff insert in the tongue, seeing how fast the insert creased for JR, at one point or another you're going to crease even the X-stiff. Are you guys sure that Bauer will sell insert packs just in the case of losing one, or did they realise a flaw in design? I guess only time will tell.

JR what's the deal with the footbed because that sounds like something new, are they going to sell them in pairs?

Depends how expensive the inserts are. Those same creases can happen on any part of the skate; we just tend to play through it until we get new pair, precisely because it's integral to the skate. The advantage to this design is that you can replace a part of the skate when it breaks down; the downside is that you can see exactly how it's breaking down.

I would suspect that in the long run, Bauer will build this directly into the tongues, both to improve the durability of the original piece and to make it wear (and yes, eventually fail) like any other part of the boot.

The inserts are DISPOSABLE - that is the whole point of them. They're not going to be around $15 for a set retail.

The Medium is 1/3 the thickness of the X-Stiff.

This isn't a problem at all, I believe in the tongue. I just did not have the right setup from the start. That is why they include 3 stiffnesses in the box.

Actually I don't believe that they will. You'd be shoehorning end users into one stiffness and that could be a nightmare. Same as the insole theory - you don't put high-end insoles in a skate from factory because you may alienate a buyer who has the wrong type of foot for said insole.

This skate comes from 6-12 - I'd say all things being equal, Medium for 6-8, Stiff for 8-10, X-Stiff for 10-12.

avalible 3/15/2010, pre-order now...

I think I will be putting my order in today...I wanna go fast!

I don't know man, there's just something unsettling about placing a $800 dollar order on something that I can't try on beforehand.

Are you serious?

We did custom skates for a reason.

Guess not...they are not taking custom orders until March/April so I'll have to wait...

Interesting. I thought they'd eventually just find one stiffness that worked well overall and use that at retail, much the way they handle retail vs. custom stiffness generally.

The disposable angle, of course, makes that totally redundant. Why not give people choice if it's so easy to switch in and out and replace an important working part of the skate?

It also dovetails beautifully with what they're doing in the goal line by regulating flex and rebound-control with interchangeable foams.

I hope this isnt the wrong place to ask this, but JR, do you know if Bauer will allow custom orders on the One100? I know normally Bauer just does their top end skate in each line, but with the TotalOne being such a serious skate, I hope they might make an exception.

I'm considering a custom as that is what I need for fit, but dont need the TotalOne level of skate. If the One100 will be available as a custom I might wait, if not, I'll just do Vapors.
