Patrice Cormier LHJMQ, elbow to the head

Lamoriello clarified to me again this morning that he did not say that Cormier should not be suspended at all.

“I don’t condone or accept that hit at all,” Lamoriello told me this morning.

He still feels that Cormier should not face criminal charges, though.

“I courts should not get involved in these things unless it is a situation that is extreme,” he said.

Suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs. So thats about probabley around 40 games or so(+/-). Listening to Quebec radio today, they thought that maybe the devils would invite him to go and train with them for the rest of the season, where he could also play up to 9 games without losing a year of rookie contract eligibility.

Hmm, maybe he should let law enforcement decide what they are going to do.

Sounds like some major backpedaling to me. He either hadn't seen the hit when he first commented - in which case it was irresponsible to comment but not the end of the world, or some backlash came down from above and he's being political - in which case my previous comment still stands.

Well it looks like he will be sitting out the rest of the year as Lamoriello said yesterday that they would honour the suspension that was handed down. So if that holds true we will not see him in the AHL or NHL this year.

That means he can play in the AHL/NHL once his team, the Huskies, have been eliminated from the LHJMQ playoffs.

I just read that Cormier is appealling his suspension - what an idiot.

He's not. His GM is. It is disgusting, though.

I still find it quite ironic that Patrick Roy is filing for criminal charges.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's thinking this way on this one. I'm damn surprised that Roy didn't let his whole team go after the guy...

Cormier accepted the suspension, his GM and coach did not.

What a bunch of douchebags.

His team is trying to make a run for the presidents cup/memorial cup and without him it hurts there chance and plus how much they had to give up for him at the deadline. It does make sense why they would appeal the suspension.

Sure it makes sense.

Still doesn't make them any less of a douchebag.

If you say someone shouldn't be suspended for their actions, you are saying that their actions are acceptable. Lou's comments are a textbook definition.

1. to disregard or overlook (something illegal, objectionable, or the like).

2. to give tacit approval to: By his silence, he seemed to condone their behavior.

3. to pardon or forgive (an offense); excuse.

4. to cause the condonation of.

5. Law. to forgive or act so as to imply forgiveness of (a violation of the marriage vow).

Cormier is a potential "asset" for the Devils organization, Lou is just trying to protect his interest. I am sure if it was Cormier who got injured Lou would be crying foul. That hit was just gross, what is even more pathetic is watching the Huskies try to appeal the suspension so their stud can play. It is in the Huskies and the Devils best interest that their player continue to play so they will fight it to the end. I would not be surprised if they appealed the suspension in court on the grounds that it prevents Cormier from training for his career.

The whole episode is rotten and Cormier is a goof but like any high profile athlete he will get much more airtime than he deserves. If he wasn't the WJC captain and a potential NHL player he would have gotten a lifetime ban like Jeff Kugel (which was later reversed) and everyone would forget about it (except for Tam and his family).

lou states that he never said that he shouldnt be suspended, he was just against getting the law involved. there was some talk that lou was upset with the fact that he would get suspended when thats not it at all. he agrees with the suspension. he didnt even have cormier try and challenge it...

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said Monday he does not anticipate a season-long suspension for top prospect Patrice Cormier in the wake of the forward's elbow to the head of Quebec Remparts opponent Mikael Tam Sunday.
"I'm not the judge or jury, but in my opinion no," Lamoriello said when asked if he felt that was possible.

He also said he did not foresee legal action.

"Not in my opinion," Lamoriello said.

Those sound like two different answers to two different questions to me. I find it hard to believe that he was that badly misunderstood and that the quote was taken that far out of context. It's not like the original article is a hatchet job with someone trying to make him look bad, so it would have to be purely accidental and not malicious act.
