Stay Classy Patrick Kane

Recommended Posts

Trying to keep up with you "younger" lads. Malaka is like tool ... no?

Here is the deal with me. Again, yes very normal and I acted like a "malaka" more than once in my day when I was drunk. Difference was I was with my buddies and 2 million people were not watching me with cameras.

OK. It sounds like Toews had his moments too. What can I tell you I just dont like what I have seen of Kane outside of this event.

Malaka means 'Wanker' in Greek :)

I think it's pretty poor form personally, but I wouldn't really expect too much different from what I've seen/heard.

Kane was drinking, yeah, but "made a fool of himself"? Did he do anything other than maybe drinking too much? I didn't see it, and I would think that the video would be out there if he did. He was on the bus with Rocky, and McDonough, and I haven't seen or heard anything about them taking issue with his behavior. I'd be interested in knowing if they did.

I can't claim he was the most mature individual out there, but it's known and accepted that athletes drink and party on winning championships, and he was the youngest one there.

BTW, where were you? Along the route, or at Wacker and Michigan?

This thread has got me wondering what stories/pictures/video may surface, regarding these guys partying. So far, haven't heard of any DWIs, accidents, fights, etc., so it's all pretty tame, IMO.

I guess you could say he didn't really make a fool of himself but, he did come off as more of a douchebag then I already thought he was. I have never really been a fan of him and everyone I know who has met him says he is a tool. Plus he is known to creep on local high school girls, I find that to be very creepy.

I was along the route then got in the street and followed the buses right up to Wacker.

Other than the one cop on the atv that hit another cop and the moron that I went to high school with who was on the streetlight taking down the banners getting the shit beat out of him and arrested I have not herd of anything else that was to extreme for a parade of this size.

Sorry to hear that about Kane; I haven't heard anything myself, but don't know anyone who's met him.

Sounds like you were in the crowd that the horses eventually cut off from the parade. On TV, I saw folks right behind the buses, then a bit later I saw the horses. I was hoping to see video of where the horses came in, but never did. I was watching about 5 stations at the time, flipping around between them.

That police accident was incredible.

I was very surprised that the video that started this thread, with no apparent purpose other than taking a shot at Kane, was posted on an major media site, and with the title they used.

Ah. Now that you put it in terms like that (via the move 'Weird Science') I understand :)

So ...

This thread comes down to two things then.

Those who think Kane is a "wanker."

and ...

Those who think Kane haters suffer from "wanker" envy.

Yes?

firstly, that bottle of champagne was empty when he put it to his lips. guaranteed. secondly, i have MORE respect for the guy now after seeing that video than when he scored the winning goal.

he's young and he's achieved success, i'd rather be dancing and drinking in the streets being serenaded by hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of fans, than sitting there being "professional". that very well may be the last time he ever gets to do something like that, and if so, i highly doubt he'll look back on it in 5, 10, 20 years and regret it.

And I'd argue that the bottle of champagne was full at some point during the day.

As a parent, there is the realization that all we're really do is helping our children prepare for the test, since the majority of their lives will be lived outside our supervision. It's the whole theory about leading the horse to the trough -- it's up to them whether they want to eat. So, all the time, I tell my daughters things like, "Anybody can swear. You can hear the words all the time in the movies or among your friends, but that doesn't mean you have to do it yourself." Or "Look, I can't stop you from drinking or taking drugs, but I sure hope that you never take drugs, and I sure hope you don't drink to excess, because the whole scene is a bit overrated." Or "What's the first thing you do if a boy hits you? Leave him and never go back."

The point is a lot of you have been saying that Kane just won the Stanley Cup, so he should be able to party any way he wants during this once-in-a-lifetime event. You're totally right, but that doesn't mean he HAS to. If he wants to drink so much that he's throwing up and wakes up with a headache, it's not that enjoyable, but it's certainly his call. However, I'm quite confident that the 35-year-old Patrick Kane will wish that the 21-year-old Patrick Kane showed a bit more restraint for that portion of his day that was so public.

I agree 100% with this post.

I find that one has to make the mistakes on their own and learn from them. In my early 20's I did many a stupid thing and the last thing I would listen to is advice like old farts that I felt did not have a clue. Oh my, how did I become that old fart?

My final point is if I were in Kane's positions, at that age, would I do the same thing? With cameras and millions of people ... I would like to think no. Just know there is a time and place for everything and degrees of partying.

I feel that Patrick Kane is a huge talent and very fun to watch. Hopefully he will realize how his money and fame puts him under the microscope. Its a tough lesson to learn in his position and I am just glad I did not have to learn from my mistakes in his environment.

Patrick Kane = Theo Fleury minus the molestation. Ok, maybe he's not on the blow that we know of, but the kid sure does seem to be exhibiting the same lack of restraint when it comes to "partying".

right, but that's not the topic at hand.

Of course it's the topic at hand. You've tried to intimate that what he did was a harmless pantomime of drinking from an empty bottle, while I'm intimating that there's a high likelihood that the bottle was empty because he had been hitting from it throughout the day.

aren't there better things to argue about, like the weight of a stick.

who cares, guy was drunk, addressed thousands like a drunk at a house party, oh well,

sorry for jumping in, I just don't see the problem

kane, toews, probably seabrook and keith leaving a nightclub with the cup.

Kane's voice is all messed up. He was on the leno show like that too.

Toews looks less than impressed...and, really TMZ....??? You're in LA outside a club....and those are the 2 girls you end up talking to...? And they were Canadian no less :(

we're not talking about likelihood. we're talking about what we saw. yes, he was drunk, MAYBE he drank that bottle of champagne, maybe he didn't. maybe there was 5, 10 or 20 bottles of champagne being passed around 20+ players, maybe there wasn't. that bottle that we all saw him put to his lips was empty... he was milking the crowd and the camera... it's what he does. i doubt he smuggled those drinks onto the bus. if anything, these guys are being encouraged to party and show off and have a good time. who provided the drinks? probably the same guy who cuts his paycheques every 2 weeks.

if he was really as self destructive and immature as you're making him out to be, why the hell wouldn't he have cracked a fresh bottle and chugged from that, as opposed to what we all saw him do?

We have no idea whether he cracked another bottle or three, since we only have the one video to go by. All we know, based on his speech, is he drank more than he should have for the occasion.

And we don't have enough evidence to classify him as self-destructive. But he has made bad decisions for a man whose earnings are based on his productivity and his popularity. For all we know, he just lost out on a $100K ad campaign with a local bank. If something like that were to happen, it's obvious that it would be in his best interest to just wait ninety minutes before getting plastered with his buddies.

no, he didnt drink more than he should have. he was clear and coherent. he addressed the crowd and everyone understood what he said. "too much" is saying something without practicing restraint or not being able to say anything at all. he likely lost out on any ad campaigns in the near future when he punched the cab driver, and regardless, his public and on-ice persona isn't suitable for non-hockey related advertising.

shotty, three drinks in the first hour at his body weight would put him just under the legal limit to drive in Chicago. Based on the look in his eyes and sound of his voice, I'd estimate that he easily had more than three drinks, but we have no idea over what duration.

He had the choice of limiting what he drank during the parade and making up for it afterward, or he could drink a greater amount during the parade and still make up for it afterward. Either way, he gets to wake up with a hangover, but the first way doesn't add to his "legend."

Drinking enough during a public event to likely exceed the legal limit to drive, when he only needed to wait a couple of hours to really let loose, is the definition of drinking "too much."

being flashy and exuberant (entertaining) is much much different than being arrogant and taunting (offensive).

what's the legal limit in chicago for non formal public speaking engagements?

don't tell me that just because someone may or may not be legally able to operate a motor vehicle (based purely on visual and audible cues) that it makes them unable or not sound enough to speak publicly. there's a BIG difference between being above the legal limit to drive and what the law would consider drunk and disorderly.

i'm not arguing whether he was or wasn't drunk, because i'm sure we'd all agree that he was... my point here is that i don't feel that his actions were out of line or degrading to his already very public image. pat kane isn't a poster boy for non hockey related products, he doesn't have to maintain any preconceived image that may be contractually required by a celebrity endorsed outside of his or her field of expertise (tiger woods, sidney crosby, britney spears to name a few). that's why sidney was photographed "riding bitch" on a sea-doo with the cup, and kaner was photo'd walking around the LA bar scene in a yankees cap with the cup over his head... and contrarily, why tiger was dropped by accenture and tag heuer and not nike or EA.

Kane comes off as a douchebag to me more so for this video.

http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?c...35&id=71665

Whereas in the video with Briere talking with the prospects, he was more than willing to share information and talk to them. It seems as though Kane wanted nothing to do with them, and was trying to find any outlet he could to get away from them. These kids are having the times of their lives, and probably just wanted advice, since he had been there only a few years ago. "Have fun" isn't the greatest advice if you ask me. I realize you have a game on your mind, but come on...
