Banging on the Glass

Recommended Posts

Why do people bang on the glass at games? Do they think that they are distracting the other team but are they not doing the same thing to the their team as well? Has anyone played when people bang on the glass and does it really effect you? Thanks for your insight!

This is the biggest pet peeve I have about watching games...they just do it for attention.

It's as if the player is going to turn around and say 'hey what's up? Wanna go grab a beer after the game?"

I think it is the same guys who hammer on aquariums and cages at zoos. Neanderthals with too much money. I assume they are there for fights and big hits, or just to be on TV. If they really appreciated the game, one assumes that they'd be up a few rows off of the center line, not deep in a corner, where most of the glass slappers seem to be.

One of the first NHL games I ever went to was with my mom. We showed up early to watch warm-ups at ice level. I banged on the glass and my mom immediately scolded me and said "those are human beings, you aren't banging on glass of fish tanks or zoos, why would you do it here". . . it stuck with me.

I did the same thing with my nephew. Never understood the facination with people wanting to do that. looks like something you would see at a WWF match.

Thank you for this. I will pass this on to my son when the time comes.

I'm not sure what's more annoying, the glass bangers or the jackholes that stand and wave whenever the cameras pan to that end of the ice. I want to hit both types in the junk with a sock full of nickels when I see them.

Was just about to say that but you beat me to it! Those guys are by far the most annoying people on TV, usually with a cell phone in one hand and a beer in the other, total losers

Can't stand that ^, these people and the glass bangers are just immature and don't realize it's not cool to bang on the glass or wave. I'm not watching the game to see you stand up every 8 seconds and wave, grow up.

I go to WHL Portland Winterhawk games and I've actually seen people told not to bang on the glass. It pretty much never happens here and it's awesome. And if you think it's loud on the television when you hear it? It's 10x that when it's happening right next to you and about 3 or 4 people are doing it at once. It's one of those stereotypical things that real fans tend not to do, but people who don't know any better feel they have to. At least that's how I see it.
