2012-2013 Gear Sightings

Sean Couturier, a noted CCM endorsee last year as a rookie in a Reebok helmet, Vapor skates, ApX stick (which was touched on already in here) and now rocking Warrior gloves too. Seems odd for someone who was just given a CCM pattern to completely ditch the company less than a year later.

It seems funny to me that everyone is so shocked when a player switches equipment and that he switched even with having his name on a retail pattern. Playing Hockey is their job and if one thing is off with the equipment or service they will most likely jump ship. This thread is good for the information, but nothing should come as a surprise when it come to players switching.

You guys are nuts:

SE and SL > SE16

I was out of the game between 97 and 2008ish. When I left I only used Sherwood 9950 Iron Carbons and an occasional Bauer 3030 Composite 2 piece because I wanted to be like Bure. SO I missed what seems to be the best era of Composites.

That's too funny, I was just comparing Stealth II and Mako II families yesterday; the overall feel, kick points etc. General consensus was a pingy feel in the Mako II but I felt it throughout the entire stick. I'm thinking it's caused by the Kevlar Wrap (RS) vs Uni-Carbon (Mako II) as well as the new 4-rib blade construction in the Mako II. I'm pretty pleased with the performance of the Mako II we'll just have to see how the life span on them hold up.

It definitely has more ping to it than a RSII, but I feel the puck on the Mako II where I could not quite tell what was going on with the RSII. Also when I would receive passes with the RSII it always seemed to jump off the face. With the Mako it sticks. I would have to say if it holds up...It would be number 1 in my opinion with the APX a close second, followed by the Miken Z9 in third. But that is just my thought.

should have 2 separate threads, this one and then another one called "Player brand swaps"

That does sound like a good idea. You guys can start one if you want.

You mean you paid $127/$114/$104 for a stick and to write nice things about it, right?

Wish you guys would come clean about what the "program" really is...

i had planned on ordering a Savoy Special from them anyway, so seemed like a good idea to me.

What happens when a player swaps a brand but it's a new product that hasn't been seen before?

*head explodes*

How so? Not every gear sighting is a switch.

I was mainly cracking a joke, I love the thread. But I remember a few guys getting frustrated by all the "did you see (insert name) switched to (insert brand) tonight?" comments.

Sorry if the sarcasm was lost in translation.

Funny to me how Kovy drops an eyelet and then tapes his ankles to his tendon guards. The first increased forward flex and the second totally impedes it. Everyone to their own, but I've always thought that taping over the tendon guard was ridiculously stupid. However, there are a ton of pros that do it.

Agreed. I tried it once and could not skate. Not sure why they it like that. Maybe they are so powerful that they can still get a good flex even when taped, but then why do it in the first place?

probably to vary the tightness without using lace locks. maybe he likes the foot a bit loser but wants a lot of ankle support. who knows, some nhl'ers do some weird things.

It would be interesting to see how many 3rd or 4th liners (or other non sponsored) players switch to a new product and if there was a pattern. That might be more useful in blind evaluation vs what the superstars are using.

He's not an official endorser but I was a little surprised to see James Neal using a 1st gen Mako today, especially since he'd been using the Mako II during the lockout
