IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted September 15, 2013 I'm just thinking of ideas for something to better hydrate than water. I've tried gatorade but find it to be so sweet it makes me feel sick. Considered coconut water (I actually like it). Anything else people use? Or is water sufficient for most people?
kerr 1 Report post Posted September 15, 2013 I drink BioSteel. It's a powder so you can control the sweetness.
cooperalls 4 Report post Posted September 15, 2013 If I'm already dehydrated, I like coconut water. Mostly I try to be proactive and just drink water. It's cheap (usually free) no chemicals, and no calories.
Buzz_LightBeer 969 Report post Posted September 15, 2013 If I'd been sick or dehydrated ill drink pedialyte, not too sweet.
Souldriver 64 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Though it's mostly post game some good ideas here http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index.php/topic/63900-post-game-nutrition/My in game a lot of times is 3/4 to half Gatorade mixed with water. Tastes best with lemon lime. I throw a couple cubes in it and I'm ready to go. I also know what one is mine bc rarely does anyone else on the team use ice. I'm also one that doesn't like too much sugar when playing. This is also what doctors have suggested to me when I'm sick with something that threatens dehydration. JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 In a pinch I'll do 50/50 Gatorade/water. A lot of pro teams will make that mix along with the stock Gatorade...it was never that sweet when I was a kid.

IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Huh, that seems rather obvious now that you suggest it. Thanks guys, I'll give that a try. Maybe gatorade powder mix so I can make it as strong or weak as I want?
JR Boucicaut 3801 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Yes - but get the pro stuff. There has always been a professional-grade Gatorade powder that had less sugar and more sodium than what is sold in stores. I had access to it when I was in Orlando with the NBA Magic back in the day.Looks like it's this now - http://www.gatorade.com/default.aspx#gendurance?s=gendurance-perform-enduranceformula-powder

hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 This is a formula a buddy who is a trainer gave me.- 32oz water- 5,000g vitamin C powder- 1 packet electrolyte powder. (I use Gatorlyte packets. Can be found on Amazon.)- 1 squeezed lime. (I've gone to half due taste)I usually put in ice to make it really cold. You can change water volume to help how strong it tastes. But it works great and costs little.
XveritasX 13 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Biosteel has me somewhat interested since they seem to have a fairly large following in hockey.
Speedz98 15 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 I'm a huge fan of Powerade Zero. No calories, no sugar, little bit of sodium and if the flavor is too strong, put some ice cubes in your bottle. Also +1 for the Biosteel sports drink.
IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Just ordered that gatorade powder. Also, if Gary Roberts endorses Biosteel, it's definitely worth a shot.

chippa13 1844 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Remember, you body absorbs less cold liquids faster. Drinking really cold water/beverages actually forces your body to spend calories warming it up.
IPv6Freely 2092 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Remember, you body absorbs less cold liquids faster. Drinking really cold water/beverages actually forces your body to spend calories warming it up.Interesting, I didn't realize that. So better to keep whatever I drink at room temperature? I've always put ice in my water. I'll stop doing that. Thanks!
SirJW 207 Report post Posted September 16, 2013 I've had success w/ Accelerade. Many cyclists and triathletes use it. My trainer likes BioSteele. We discussed the virtues of both and concluded that if Accelerade works for me, keep using it. YMMV

I'll definitely look out for this. Also with temp I also heard super cold stuff could cause cramps. But you still want it a certain colder temp bc it will cool off your body which has it's own positive effects.

Also +1 for the Biosteel sports drink. Count me in for Powerade Zero as well, the new enhanced flavors as they have dubbed it do taste less watered down than before, but I don't feel a need to water it down. Usually during the game I just drink water (I also have some G2 powder packets that I'll over dilute with water as I don't like it to be super sugary sweet if I want something besides water on the bench) & then I'll have a 20 oz. bottle of Powerade Zero afterwards & before beer. Powerfibers 8 Report post Posted September 18, 2013 Been using Nuun a lot on my marathon training. Good favors, slightly fizzy, but I like it better than Gatorade. It's a tablet that mixes into plain water. Its rather mellow.Otherwise, I like straight water best followed by Gatorade G2 cut with water during a game or straight up after a game.
