A2rhino 82 Report post Posted June 27 Curious, Would you consider in True Skates a D size as a Fit 1 or 2?
iceman8310 110 Report post Posted September 8 (edited) I currently have size 9 Large True tongues, and they stick out too much. The pair I have are the TF Pro thin tongues. I don’t like how the excess part sticks out of the skate. If I went down to a Medium, would the metatarsal guard end up in the wrong spot, or would switching to a smaller tongue be fine? Would like to do something like this but not have to cut the tongues. Edited September 8 by iceman8310
A2rhino 82 Report post Posted September 8 I actually just ordered a size smaller tongue as I have run into the same issue with where they sit to be the most protective and comfortable.
stuie7 6 Report post Posted September 13 Hi everyone. I took a 5 year break from hockey, and after I got off the ice last night I noticed that the rivet securing the tendon guard had disappeared from my old VH skates. Anyone know what kind of rivet would be a suitable replacement?

I went down a size in the 3D printed tongues and prefer the length on them. I didn't notice any difference with the metatarsal guard but the 3D are very squishy. Just use helmet hardware or the appropriate bolt, etc. Will stay connected much better and you don't even need access to a riveter.
iceman8310 110 Report post Posted September 20 Can anyone help me with replacing the felt tab on the tongues? My VH tongues were great, but the True tongues are terrible. Whenever I pull them up, they come undone. I think the felt tab needs more material so the tongues stay in place better.

There's a post/thread on here somewhere where the person replaced the felt part with a more heavier duty one. I did the same. No issues after.

You don't need a sewing machine. unless you don't know how to hand sew at all, it's pretty simple to replace. Either way lots of places sell Velcro. You can get adhesive backed or not. If you can't sew just get the adhesive industrial grade Velcro but there's no guarantees the adhesive will hold forever. You can always use e6000 glue as well. Personally, I'd use a speedy stitcher type awl

iceman8310 110 Report post Posted October 3 I took my True Tongues to a cobbler to have the Velcro redone, but they weren’t able to do it. I also haven’t heard back from the sail loft yet. Does anyone have other suggestions for where I could get this kind of repair done? Maybe George’s Repair in Smokey? I don’t really have the patience to sew the material myself, so I’d rather have someone else handle it. Any leads appreciated

You're honestly wasting a lot of time and potentially money just not doing it yourself. Get the adhesive Velcro and stick it on if you don't want to sew. Or use a permanent flexible glue like e6000. Larry54 244 Report post Posted yesterday at 02:12 AM To those who have tried the Genetix insoles and found them too soft and thick, did you bake them? Are they even heat-moldable? I ask because this video seems to suggest it. The video is cued to the heat-molding part.

You can keep them inside during the bake but it doesn't reduce the softness and thickness. They're terrible insoles imo. I don't know why true would use such thick insoles that deaden the feel of your edges.
Westside 259 Report post Posted 18 hours ago Never tried baking them but agree they’re terrible insoles. Maybe if I were a ref and in my skates for 8 hours? It for playing they’re too soft/squishy and take up too much volume
tcc 9 Report post Posted 18 hours ago I've had my first pair of custom SVH for about 3 years now with those genetix insoles. Being my first and only true/one piece skate I don't know better and find them ok. Am I missing out in performance by not switching to a "better" insole? Being my first and only true/one piece skate I don't know better and find them ok. Am I missing out in performance by not switching to a "better" insole? Vh/true used to have the sole of the skate completely custom so it matched the arch of your foot exactly. With this, you only needed a stock foam foot bed for some cushion and that was it. The introduction of the genetix insole kills the feel of your edges and are ridiculously thick. I'm assuming true skates no longer customize the sole of the shell for whatever reasons. I'm assuming it's just easier to create a shell that has a stock base and possibly makes it easier and more consistent to mount the holders on. If the insoles work for you, then great. For me, I've been using bauer speedplates for years and it's the only insole I'll use bc it heat molds to the exact shape of your arches. The genetix insoles placed my foot so far up In the boot I was getting pinching in areas I never had before. Once I put my speedplates back in (and even stock Bauer insoles), all the issues went away.
