Wow, that's douchey.
-
Yea. Kind of stupid. If they'd been on time then I'd be done them already but instead we're stuck waiting.
-
Yea, I think its similar. See:
-
I wish they'd waive the electives for this year since they're so behind in publishing them (they were SUPPOSED to be out in time for Aug 1 registration). I think we could survive without them for one more season.
-
Wow, that's insanely quick.
-
Already? Mine was weeks ago. Still says "Your seminar information is not yet complete for this season" and then down below it says it can take 2-4 weeks. See the pic:
-
I agree, that sucks badly. Though apparently seminar attendance info is going to take 2-4 weeks anyway so hopefully those are done by then. Apparently they hoped to have all the courseware done in time for registrations for 2015 to start, but they fell behind. The mandatory courses were available the day before my seminar! BTW by elective they don't mean optional, they mean you get to pick x number of courses out of the y number of courses offered. USA hockey requires four pieces now (for level 1 at least): - Online open book exam - Seminar attendance - SafeSport online course and quizzes (for those 18+) - Online seminar (including some mandatory courses, plus some electives). For this info, login here: http://officialseminar.usahockey.com/ These steps are all described in your Referee Status page: https://learn.usahockey.com/officiatingseminars/myseminarhistory.cfm

In the white? You look like Joe Thornton from that distance.

Dunno, this one was all levels. I actually don't recall ANY videos being shown. Some powerpoint of positioning and lots of lecture and whiteboard. We had guys taking their level 3 tests (and with the exception of the instructors, that was the highest we had). So it was definitely all mixed levels. My first seminar so I had nothing to compare it to.
-
Added some custom made sliding toe bridges. Hopefully this helps with my lack of ankle flexibility.
-
My seminar didn't really cover much in the way of penalty standards. Do they usually?
-
Ah, I haven't tried them yet. So you think they would actually make things worse? I bet I could pretty easily get her to make me some thicker pads for my knee stacks. I do plan on wearing knee pads as well. I bought the Bauer Supreme but they were bulky as shit and I didn't care for them. It was almost too much. Trying the Reactor ones this week (already ordered, should be here today).
-
That makes sense. I also actually had a custom sliding toe bridge made for these things by Sarah at PAW. I don't know how much that really matters for my level but what the hell.

I used the video of Chris Mason showing off his smart straps as a general basis for how tight I was making mine (at one point the interviewer actually tugs on his straps a bit). It's better than it was when I first started messing with them. See the 0:20 mark:
-
Much more like Brodeur, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm going to take some video from various angles this weekend so you guys can see what I'm doing wrong :)
-
Yes they have smart straps only (the Gnetik 5.0 has both, I think). I've been playing with the tightness of the straps and my issue is that I'm not really sure how tight or loose things should be (because I've never worn pads with normal straps) but once I get it where I lik it I think I'll really like the smart straps. Toes point outward like they should, I just have a tendancy to open my legs when I go down so I have a good foot between the top edges of my pads in the butterfly. I also seem to have trouble with the pads not going back into place properly when I stand back up.
-
Thanks, but I was talking about WITH the pads on.
-
Thanks, but I already got them :)
-
Thats cool. I asked the local rink about private 1-on-1 instruction and they said it was $50/hr. That's a price that's pretty easy to swallow; I was expecting it to be much more. I'll do 3-4 sessions of that just to get some fundamentals once I have the rest of my pads, and then try the beginner pickup (tuesday nights its an hour of drills and then an hour of pickup, all meant for beginners). In the meantime, stretching, stretching, and more stretching.
-
There were a number of guys in my officials seminar that were required to attend by their team so they can understand the other side. Brilliant idea, imo.
-
They have a pretty strict "no hockey equipment" rule during public sessions (even when they're totally dead during the middle of the day). Maybe I'll see what the policies are at the other rinks that are semi-local.
-
Holy crap! Price drops!
-
Ah, great idea. I'll try that, and post it. Oh yes, I'm 100% sure my flexibility is bad. VERY bad. Maria Mountain videos are fantastic and I'll be trying her stretches out. Ah! haha okay then. I'll keep looking but even this one isn't half bad, if dated.

The part I'm now having the most difficulty with is that the butterfly position is kind of uncomfortable. It's an awkward movement, I have a good foot of space in the 5-hole, and it kinda hurts my knees when I go down. I should mention this is while on skates (with guards on) at home, as I don't yet have all my gear to be able to even consider hitting the ice. Maybe my mechanics are bad. Does anyone have suggestions on videos or something that shows the fundamentals? Unfortunately starting this as an adult there isn't a whole lot of practice opportunity and I'm not sure jumping right into pickup is the best idea either. Is the ProHybrid series any good? Does it go over fundamentals or does it assume you already know the basics?
