  1. Yep, if I continue hockey I’m definitely going to be trying a retail model.
  2. I had similar issues as you. I tried everything and spent a fortune in the process. Every line from Bauer and CCM and a couple models of Graf and just couldn’t get anything that didn’t hurt after a couple minutes. I used to ask guys if just the walk out to the ice is supposed to hurt, because I had no reference point. Usually, my feet would eventually go numb and didn’t hurt at some point in the 3rd period. Then I got my hands on the Easton Mako. My first time playing a game (playing in a division higher than the beginner division I should have been in) I had my teammates ask if I had taken skating lessons. I laughed and told them no, I just had skates that didn’t hurt anymore. Pain was gone. They were so thermaformable that they were able to fit perfectly! It really was amazing. When I switched to goalie, I bought a pair of cheap Bauer goalie skates and, not surprisingly, they hurt my feet. Not as badly, but the movements are obviously different. I wasn’t about to go through the same BS all over again and since there was no Mako goalie skate i bit the bullet and went VH custom. Ended up being one of the best equipment decisions I’ve ever made. They feel like nice, well fitting hiking boots. A nice even pressure all around the foot that makes you feel supported but not jammed. And because of the foot wrap you barely need to pull the laces tight. I could skate with no laces in these things (and sort of have before when I had a lace come untied during a pickup game). Soooo... while I think True custom might work for you based on my experience, the TF7 or TF9 retail models might give you the same experience I got with the Mako. I don’t know if that’s helpful to you but figured I’d give you my story and you can decide what to do with it.
  3. I feel like they will be quite similar to the Mako where the crazy level of thermoformability will make them fit a lot of different foot shapes. Still not for everyone, but still a pretty wide variety of people.
  4. Man, I haven’t seen that scene in ages. So good. I loved that show!
  5. Good question. I assume they’ll do some sort of promo. I already have it as it’s the only way to watch games without TV service.
  6. Merged into the existing thread where we've already been discussing these.
  7. The play-in round is going to be awesome. 5-6 games a day starting between 9AM and 7:30PM PT. Gonna need to put a TV in my home office!
  8. It's EXTREMELY frustrating, especially now that we're seeing businesses shut down not because of the virus but because of the morons refusing to wear masks and do social distancing.
  9. Pretty generic message from one of the local rinks, right up until the end: Interesting about the "plastic shield". I wish the image was larger.
  10. Probably pretty high as long as everyone follows the rules.
  11. Ice-Plex Escondido is shut down permanently, and that email I mentioned is from San Diego Ice Arena (Mira Mesa). Carlsbad is where I was playing on a team.
  12. Just got an email from another local rink that they’re in big trouble and will likely be shutting down if they don’t get county assistance. So, that’s 3 of the 5 sheets locally that would be gone.
  13. I’ve been saving up for months for new goalie pads. Due to a combination of coronavirus, local rinks permanently closing, and being kicked off my team I’ve decided it was time to invest in a new hobby, instead of buying hockey gear I’ll never see much use out of. Welcome to the team, Rocket! 🚀 I’m so pumped, but at the same time definitely going to miss hockey. I’ll still have my gear for now, but if it doesn’t see much use in the next 6 months or so I may try to just sell it all.
  14. Well, it’s pretty simple. Some people do things differently from you.
  15. I don’t know how this is silly. It fits a need. Now I don’t have to rip my tape down the middle.
  16. Probably, but I don't think anything like that is going to keep them from trying.
  17. Haha yeah, saw that this morning. I remember when they posted the April Fools joke and everyone was like "I was hoping this was real". I know I definitely use a 1/2" knob for both player and goalie sticks, so I'd definitely be buying this if I was going to keep playing.
  18. I don’t really see much risk. They’re probably far more likely to contract the disease in their everyday lives than they are in a hub city bubble.
  19. You could tell from the first sentence that his entire post was going to be nonsense.
  20. You definitely wont be able to buy retail skates with no holder. If you want that, you would have to go custom to honor your... custom request.
  21. More than it's worth. You also don't know what that would do to the structural integrity of the rest of the cage.
  22. There is a lot of debate on this and everyone has their opinion, but let me just say that as a goalie a white cage is ABSOLUTELY going to be better for seeing the puck. I have used colored cages, and still do sometimes (my Winterfest mask, for example) but white is definitely easier to see the puck with. Obviously every color occupies the same amount of physical space, but seeing a black object on white ice with a white cage is going to be way easier than seeing it through a black cage. It may matter less for skaters (hence the number of people who will say it doesn't matter) but for me it's a massive difference.
  23. Oh man, I haven't heard that brand name in a LONG time. I was a huge HUGE fan of their original face mask (all plastic - and appears to be the one they still offer for youth players). The "Avision Ahead" model was the second version and it fogged up a ton. Looks like they don't have that one anymore. The Zero Plus is ugly AF but it looks pretty good. A full cage definitely looks less dopey, but who gives a damn these days. I think I still have my original Boulder kicking around somewhere - I wonder if they still make replacement shields for them. Maybe I should put it back on at least for now, regardless.
  24. 72.2 specifically covers that exact situation (refusal to play after a hand pass)
