Dealing with health insurance definitely sucks. Even if your plan covers 90%, it’s still a chunk of change when the bill is $250,000. Thank god my provider permitted a private hospital to be billed at the in-network rate since it was such a specialized procedure, or else it would have been even more painful.

Skate replacement for Easton Mako

If you bought custom skates that were made for somebody else, I wouldn’t expect them to feel all that great. -
Skate replacement for Easton Mako

Very similar in the ability to mold to your foot and just overall comfort level. I’d agree to try to find some makos online if you can but otherwise I know I went from Mako to True and it was a pretty perfect evolution. -
Dude... sorry 😞 That’s some pretty crap news. We’re all rooting for you and hope something breaks your way soon!

Skate replacement for Easton Mako

The closest thing you’re going to find is True. Since they’re custom fit to your feet and crazy heat moldable they’re going to be your best bet if you want a similar feel. -
Very carefully/slowly and with a lot of scrunching.

Right now it’s just a Singer 4432. I’m about to buy a JUKI DDL-5550 though.

Well, this is what happens when you buy a sewing machine. I took the stripes and patch off a Warrior MSH Winterfest pant shell and put them on a Bauer girdle shell. Also just for funsies, here’s a fitted cap I took apart and rebuilt to make it go from a 7-5/8 to a 7-3/8. Im thinking I might start making goalie accessories. Toe ties, suspenders, etc.

I just got one of those. Haven’t used it on the ice yet because it’s still a bit small for me but man the comfort and protection level is amazing.

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne

I completely sympathize because I know how frustrating it can be trying multiple brands and models to just continue to skate in pain. Eventually you just say to hell with it and get traced/scanned. Ill never forget, when I was about 3 years into my adult hockey “career” I had my teammates ask if I had taken skating lessons. I told them nope, I just got skates that didn’t hurt. But apparently the difference was noticeable! One piece of advice for you and everyone else buying Trues: you don’t need to tie them anywhere near as tight as you may be used to. When you have that much wrap you dont need to crank the laces to pull the skate around the top of your foot like you would with other skates. -

My old VH (last version prior to True) are still mostly flawless. I would definitely have zero concerns about longevity. -

Good call, I’ll give that a try. -

I’ve started having pain over the last month or two. Just below where the big toe meets the foot. Almost like there’s something digging into the top of my foot there. I can’t figure out what it is. -
The only fishbowl I’ve used that didn’t fog was the original avision mask. Even their second version did. I’m curious about this one though now that I’m in a CCM bucket.

Let’s get back on topic.

There’s always the standard clear plastic ones too.

Pasternak and Nylander are really close. I can see the Kopitar comparison for sure. Anyway, let’s get back on track.
-
Pasternak is definitely not the first 88 that comes to mind
-
His helmets always look way too small for his head

What do you mean?

I would recommend that too unless that won’t work for you. -

I wouldn’t expect everyone to be able to. But I can. -

My story is really simple. I tried just about every model skate (in my price range) that was available at the time spending easily $1500+ and making back only a fraction of that selling them used. I finally said screw it and bought OG Makos and bam... no more pain. Then when I switched to goalie I started with Bauer Reactor goalie skates and had the same pre-Mako pain again. Since there was no goalie Mako I decided I wasn’t going through the process all over again and went straight to VH. Still the best hockey equipment decision I’ve ever made.
