  1. you should give that speech at lemonade stands. I don't think you're understanding the goal of this product. I don't think you're gonna buy one of these so that you can start your own sharpening shops, the product seems mostly geared at being a consumer in house product, busy family of 4 etc. There are definite ways it differs from skatepal that I can see from just looking at it/watching a short video on its operation. I think a huge advantage it has is that its fully enclosed, a busy family with perhaps some younger, inquisitive children would appreciate that. It also looks less bulky, more like it belongs in a living space, vs belonging in a garage. Im not a sharpener, but it seems a lot easier to deal with as well. If it were up to me, as a consumer, I would purchase the Sparx, given that they both work well and give good edges. All this said, I like having someone sharpen my skates, theres just something about plopping them on the counter that I actually think is an enjoyable experience. As old trainer mentioned, there are things a person can do that this machine cannot. Around me, its not easy to get a good sharpening unless I drive 30 minutes to a Total hockey, or a few other shops. Total makes 0 dollars per sharpening each time I go in the store (but plenty more in other purchases ;) Maybe ill purchase one of these in the winter as a backup plan, as in my world these can both have a place. Plus I need additional retirement funds. Russ: I noticed in the video there are two different backlights. is red for when its in operation, and green when it is finished and skates can be removed? hope you are able to make it to SJ, would love to see it in action!!!!!!
  2. 7-8 months in a post 2000 band seems like its actually a long time. I think the average length of time a band stays together nowadays is 54 days
  3. you're going to need a second set for her =) adorable dog!!!!!! edited because dog is female =)
  4. excellent glove. I thought they were great at the 79.99 price point, but now that they have dropped to 59.99, even better. I demoed them last SJ and was very impressed. The only issue I found with them was pretty much the same of any similar style/priced glove, ran a bit hot. I think this glove, with mesh gusseting, and something like the 37.5 as a liner would be the perfect beer league glove for me. Unfortunately I had to purchase my last pair of gloves in a hurry as I got to the rink and forgot my pair, but getting APX Pro for 80 bucks in MSH colorway was a nice tradeoff. Let me know how these work for you, I may still buy a pair in the near future.
  5. Thanks! I've only used the stick for part of one game thusfar but it's got great kick. I'm going to cut it a little shorter since it's a higher lie than I normally use, and I had originally cut it to the length that I like my defensive stick to be. I purchased it on advice from one of my ice hockey teammates who said the puck feel was great on it, an issue I'm facing considering my current stick setup is fairly pingy on feel and I don't like it as much with the plastic pucks. Everyone I have asked about the sticks loves them thusfar, and after discount on IW they are a sick price so I suggest you check one out.I haven't used the RPD max skates yet, gonna get them baked and on tiles here shortly, at which point I'll switch out the millenniums on the Teams to the asphalts shown.
  6. one if by tile, two if by street. also my newest addition, RPD max stick!
  7. In the leagues around here, the league managers usually move teams around to even it out. They would probably have already bumped that team up, and bumped a d5 team down
  8. seems like your league has some balancing issues.
  9. I ordered a max stick from IW that should be arriving sometime soon. Got it for 160 shipped so for a top end stick it is relatively inexpensive. One of my ice teammates recommended it to me as I asked him about suggestions he had for better puck feel as my RBZ and ek15 are both awkward to me with the roller puck. I'll let you know my findings
  10. I will be trying it pretty soon, will let you know
  11. poor cali dudes, pond hockey must be a real drag for you guys!
  12. depending on your size and availability, you may also want to look at getting a Team or Shift skate on clearance from the previous line. Both come with a great wheel, so that may save you on upgrading in the future. As for the two you mentioned, I think the Comp would be as low as I would go unless I am strictly looking for something to use on concrete, but that's me personally.
  13. forgot to pack gloves in my Ice bag today. Got to the rink, 35 mins from my house to realize this. Luckily for me they had some APX Pro in Black/yellow at the pro shop for 80 bux on clearance! I guess that part goes in the sweet spot thread.
  14. The alkali pants are really nice, but they are the only roller pants ive owned (when I first played roller 17 years ago used ice hockey setup with some k2 zspecials, then didn't play for 15 years). I have the team pants, and will soon look to get another pair, maybe the max. when I compare them to others in stores, they just seem like the best fit for me. I have washed them twice now in the machine (low spin, with my other gears) and hung them with no ill effects.
  15. Excellent! thanks Chase! Yes I was looking at the newest gen RPD and Team sticks. I thought it kind of odd that the Sr and Int would be 7" difference, so figured it was a typo. Someone probably just inputted the Jr length into Int on accident I can confirm that they are now reading properly on the consumers end, now to decide which one to go with
  16. I have a question regarding stick lengths. On IW website, they have the length on Intermediate at 52in, and senior at 59. Do you know how they are measuring this, and if these numbers are accurate? I am considering getting one, but wonder if it will be too short.
  17. I was always a Buick guy, but got sick of shelling out so much money for every little thing that broke or wore out. After graduating college, I moved to Vermont for a bit to hang with my parents, that showed me how really awful my regal was in the snow. My mom got an outback after the car she moved to Vermont with (concorde) was totaled, and my dad has always owned cherokees. They drive the Outback when it snows. I bought an Impreza in 08', its great in the snow, but next I will probably get an Outback or Forester. I haven't had a single issue with mine, only normal replacements (brakes, tires wore out, stuff like that). 112k without replacing things is new to me, but I like it!
  18. Owning a Subaru during winter snowstorms. On the flip side, I can never use getting stuck as an excuse to not make it in to work :(
  19. Better Sundays than the super bowl: Any Sunday I play hockey Any Sunday Red Wings play hockey Any Sunday during the Stanley Cup Playoffs I don't need any specific event to ttell me when to consume junk food.
  20. EK11 looks like a great second price point stick, I wonder what Sher-wood will MAP them at.
  21. made it through the weekend. as mentioned before played roller for the first time in many years, but that was just the start of a weekend where I played 3 sports in 24 hours that I hadn't played in a combined 25 years. My main goal was not to fall, which I accomplished, but perhaps I should have been more concerned about head safety as I took a rollerblade to the jaw (with cage on, thankfully) and a soccer ball to the nose/face. Sore all over, but I got a goal in both soccer and roller, so win win! although the roller game was drop in, and my soccer team lost 2-4. But hey, I got a draw in racquetball doubles!!!!!
  22. First inline game in 13 or 14 years. Well it was drop in. Did better than I expected too and didn't fall once which was pretty much my goal. Next step, getting used to the lighter puck
