I can’t imagine what it is like to go through something like this but I’m pulling for you as I’m sure everyone around here is. John

It is certainly feasible that a helmet could change the dynamics of how an external force is transferred to the head and thus how the skull interacts with the brain, it seems those differences might be more a mathematical exercise and have little overall effect. I have worked in medical device product development for almost 20 years. Even there clinical trial results can be so borderline that many intelligent people can draw different conclusions. And by intelligent people I don’t mean the media.

Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
BenBreeg replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
This is my motivation. Between getting stuck the last two weeks not being able to get to the shop to get my skates done and getting there and finding out it is closed at 6 on a Saturday, I'm sold on the convenience aspect. -
It depends on the type of activity. In a lot of cases the better players are going to dominate and the "C" players really won't be participating. This can be frustrating for them and really doesn't help them develop. You want to create scenarios where kids can have success.

The thought is that 1) today's skates aren't as easy to modify like old leather ones were (and the shoemaker has since passed away) 2) with a better fit the padding wouldn't be necessary 3) I think the CCM customs have options for additional padding I would also love to have a bigger toe cap, my pinkie toe is always numb even after just an hour on the ice
-
Can you get Ribcore customs too? He only mentions Tacks and Jetspeeds. I am considering customs for too reasons. One, I am old and haven’t had new skates in like 20 years, so it is splurge buy. Two, i have boney feet and my pair now has all kind of extra padding inserted by a shoemaker who used to work on skates because skates always had hot spots poked me and killed my feet. Thinking customs would allow for batter molding and also adding extra padding.

By player vs. player I mean any drill that would have them competing, such as small area type games, 2-2, Ringette, etc.

The new STX Surgeon RX3 gear is out.
BenBreeg replied to ParabolicActivity's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
My current pet peeve is that while it makes sense if they don’t want to get in the youth market, their junior sizes only have M and L, no smalls for elbow pads or shoulder pads. I would like to try the elbow pads for my son. Every pair he has irritates him, for some reason he is super sensitive about this. Maybe the 3pc sleeve design would help. -

I am not actually sure about that. -

Does the code still work if you got it? I had it and planned onbuying shins and elbow pads but got laid off for the last three months so everything went on hold. The STX rep here seems to have gone MIA, I PMd him and havent heard back. -
Yeah I realize what it is referring to, but it is a pet peeve, nothing major. I would just use the term excess space. I remember being "corrected" by other engineers for using the term negative pressure once, that is what brought it up.

Looking for P28 type curve that's a bit more closed
BenBreeg replied to Ryan91330's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I just threw our some old blades, one was a Shanahan, toe with straight face and square toe. That was from ages ago... -
The thing about lots of details and subtlty to designs is at th actual viewing distance all that is lost and it can look worse. To me that is why plain patterns work best. I don’t like the gradient, it can become dated too quickly.

When Did You Get Bored With Acquiring New Hockey Gear?
BenBreeg replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I actually just found my 9000s when i was cleaning out a closet yesterday. When I bought them they were the only thing i could find in a tall. Probably going to switch from my Tackla girdle back to pants. -
When Did You Get Bored With Acquiring New Hockey Gear?
BenBreeg replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
The old stuff is great design-wise. Nexus gloves and other 4 roll styles havent chamged a whole lot from the old Cooper BDP Pro style. -
Wow, that was the old design when I was a kid! Nice! There some new BDP Pros I am tempted to grab right now, love the old stuff.

When Did You Get Bored With Acquiring New Hockey Gear?
BenBreeg replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I just got back into playing this past year so I am getting back into the gear side a bit just because my stuff is old and kind of nasty. I still like browsing gear but not like when i was a kid where i always knew where the Great Skate, Ocean, and Kemps catalogs were in my house 24/7. Now it seems like a gear race with manufacturers constantly releasing new models with probably very minimal benefits. That actually gets boring to me compared when a new skate model was kind of a big deal. -
Stadium jerseys are hideous. But I am apparently the only person who likes the Jets thirds. In fact, i am getting a t-shirt with the logo. Simple design with a script to me is always classy.

The trm “negative space” refering to skates. So many rip on marketing jargon then use this term to sound knowledgeable. So, is negative space actually a pressure point? If not, then it is just excess space...

Good for you! Honestly, i don’t miss it at all. I deactivated mine about a year and a half ago. It was useful for events and organizational stuff, but I saw more people lose friendships from arguing over politics and similar topics than I can count. I didn’t delete it in case my kids ever get an account but judging from some 20-somethings I talked to at work, it probably won’t be necessary, none of them use FB, so I assume myy younger daughter will be on to another platform by the time we would allow her to have accounts anyway.

My quesion is this- As steel is removed the flare gets thinner but maintains its angle, which makes sense, if the steel is removed evenly along the blade everything is the same. But profiling by definition is going to remove more steel in some areas than others, so different parts of the blade will have differnent widths. So if you start with an 11’ radius Flare blade, then profile it to some combo radius like a Quad 0 which goes from a 13 in back to a 6 at the toe, the toe would be thinner. Or is the difference so miniscule as not to matter?
