In the prostrideskatinglabtoronto Instagram video Pavel Barber quickly goes through four profiles from the Elite Profile machine. Nothing that useful but one interesting statement jumped out. He started with the 9'/10' and said, "...this is the most popular one in the NHL." So, whether that's overall or just based on the dataset of their users, it's interesting. This is the only one that I have ever heard there is any data to show it was better than other profiles it was tested against. Was it @oldtrainerguy28 that was part of the study or cited it here before? I have also seen a presentation from ProSharp where I am pretty certain he said most of their NHL skaters were on Quad 0. That was definitely from a few years ago. Just a data point. I still believe profiling has a big effect on skating, and can be beneficial, but I 100% believe that there are too many, they aren't validated, and for the normal retail consumer, there is no way to match profiles to players based on "talking with the pro shop tech" or filling out a form. When parsing all this overinformation years ago, I decided to just put my son on 9/10. It was the only thing there was any data on. So I figured I would baseline there and at the very worst would have consistency. It has worked out well. I'm not chasing profiles and he has never had an issue. One skate change (strangely from Supreme TO Vapor, but that was the last year of youth sizes so not sure how those sizes actually are pitched) he immediately felt too far back. Small shim and we were done.

My Nexus 2900s have a little taper to the piece right over the knuckles where the fingers meet, but I never noticed until I looked. I always thought of them as direct descendants to Cooper BDP Pros, which do have all perfect rectangle rolls. Growing up those were my grail gloves. I had SC Pros which were a short cuff model, hence the name.

What is a deviant roll? I think of Bauers as a 4-roll, never really thought about any subcategories. i think I may get a pair of the CCMs, I really like them.

Don’t worry about seeing it flex. SLO mo’d my son last year and the stick was flexing plenty even though you couldn’t tell with the naked eye. If he is shooting well that’s all that matters, although that is a bit light for his size.

It might be a bold move because they lose the value prop of $:performance ratio but if they think it makes business sense more power to them. I also wonder if people here live in low income housing and wrap their kids in 1970s baseball gear to send them out on the ice.

So the interface is the same, just different in how you engage/disengage the locking mechanism. Spring vs screw. And they lengthened the “inserts”. i have had the original on my skates for five years and just need to occasionally tighten it which has just become a habit.

Different color lenses are used in shooting for different lighting and background conditions. But I am not sure there is much transference to hockey.

I first saw the sharpening level sign last month. I really had to try and figure out what the hell it was even trying to say… I still drive 30 minutes to get them hand sharpened by the figure skating guru in town. $9 and he just raised his price from $5 which it was for like 10 years. We are lucky to have him and Binnie although both are far from me and Binnie is drop off only so that makes two round trips.

TBH, buying footbeds separate seems like an upsell when you are in the store. If their position is the skate would be best with it, the skate should come with it, especially as you get to the higher price points. when my son was in youth and junior skates, the Pure associate would automatically bring over Superfeet and try to upsell them. So a parent is buying $200ish skates and here comes a kid telling them, “they really should get these because the stock footbed isn’t that good”, by the way, that adds another 25% to your total.

If you want the thinnest socks, don’t spend a lot. Champro that you can get at Epic Sports are like $3-4/pair. We have a ton. Very cool! I had Vapor 8s for a very brief time. Their vice-like grip on my forefoot put an end to that. I always liked the 10s design better.

We use Howies laces which are the “puffy” style. Thicker than the slippery nylon type ones that come with CCMs. I find they have enough friction through the eyelets to let me tighten 2-3 eyelets to get good heel lock and leave the rest barely snug.

I still work out. Advil will help with pain but doesn’t prevent the I do backwards and forwards sled dragging, single leg movements like step ups, rear elevated split squats, curtsy squats, some other single leg squat variations. Lots of side planks, banded side walks as well.

I see a lot of kids on the ice, 90% of them are in mid level skates. Some below. I have never seen a kid skate and attributed any shortcoming to their skates. i do see a lot of kids with no ability to get on their outside edges on get any kind of forward shin angle. They have their skates cranked and it’s like from the knee down they are an action figure, the ankle doesn’t move. my son is almost 13, a good skater, and is in the age where kids are enamored by high end sticks and skates. I could afford it but I won’t buy him top end skates.

Yeah, I understand that, how they state it in the chart was a little weird. The pivot point would be -20mm which would cause the forward pitch but they label the column pitch and the value is actually the pivot point adjustment.

Quick clarification. In the chart, does -20mm mean the pivot point is moved back 20mm which would translate to forward pitch?

Likely over time sales numbers showed low demand for non-grip sticks and they went away.

To add, if after skating for a while all you feel is off is the pitch, you can get a shim put in for cheaper than profiling and if it isn’t the issue it’s easily reversible. Getting profile recommendations on the internet, even from knowledgeable people who have never seen you skate isn’t a high percentage endeavor.
