What hockey stuff have you done during quarentine?
caveman27 replied to MyBoxersSayJoe's topic in General Hockey Discussions
Nothing hockey specific. Just working out by running and doing pull ups. -
The NHL cleared the way Thursday for players to return to practice rinks next week and firmed up its playoff format even as a ninth player tested positive for the coronavirus. After unveiling the final details of its 24-team plan if the season is able to resume this summer, the league said teams could reopen facilities and players could take part in limited, voluntary workouts beginning Monday. The NHL and NHL Players' Association must still iron out health and safety protocols before moving ahead with training camps and games. Players can skate in groups of up to six at a time under ''phase 2,'' which includes specific instructions on testing, mask-wearing and temperature checks. It's another step closer to the ice after the league said every playoff series will be a best-of-seven format after the initial qualifying round and teams will be reseeded throughout. https://sports.yahoo.com/nhl-finalizes-playoff-format-pens-player-tests-positive-192403195--nhl.html

Whether you like him or not, here's the video of him driving in goalie pants, jock and chestie to get to a frozen pond. -
Bauer Shield For Corona Virus
caveman27 replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Oh, he also had his skates off. Well, he knows he can't make in the NHL. He used to have an attitude that he was going to make it to the pros. Anyway, he is trying to make it into lower-level college hockey league and eventually, a low-level pro league, like SPHL. I believe one of his goalie coaches gave him an honest assessment of his ceiling. He knows he was cocky in the past and is embarrassed of his earlier videos. -
Interesting details when NHL gets back to playing games. https://nhl.bamcontent.com/images/assets/binary/317017544/binary-file/file.pdf No sharing of water bottles. Use of a water bottle or Gatorade in the penalty box is thrown away after a player leaves the penalty box. No sharing of towels. Every surface in locker rooms, showers, benches, workout rooms, etc. have to be sanitized. Ton of rules.

Bauer Shield For Corona Virus

I completely understand, I assumed he was a player. There was this guy who wore all his goalie gear except pads, mask and gloves and drove to a pond on youtube. Guy is trav4oilers. -

I've had to retie my skates after all my gear was on. It's not easy so, I undo my pants belt and lacing at least to be able to bend forward more. -
Yeah. If he was 50/50 back in mid-April, he should be close to 100% now.
-
Ha ha. Sidney Crosby should be fully healed and recovered from his surgery by now.
-
They scrubbed the idea of playing in smaller arenas because they'll want four big locker rooms and the space to accommodate four teams so they can schedule back to back games. You've probably seen the behind the scenes videos of equipment managers moving a bunch of crates to out-of-town games with everything: skate sharpening machine, tools, sticks, all the players equipment bags plus extra spare protective equipment and parts, extra jerseys, etc.
-
I wonder what they'll do about having emergency back-up goalies available during these squeezed together playoff games. It would be difficult for some teams to call up a guy from the minors to fly to wherever they are playing to make it to a game that is starting in a couple hours.
-
Yeah. So I meant I don't want to pay for cable to get extra sports stations like NBC sports channel or for other paid subscription-based services, like NHLtv I cut cable to save money.
-
They didn't talk about what games are going to be broadcast on which stations. I cut cable so I would only be able to watch games on NBC (via digital antenna) unless they stream it on youtube for free, which I doubt.

Bauer Shield For Corona Virus
caveman27 replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
If you wore a respirator mask that has the cartridges that attach to a silicone shaped mask, then no paper elements would get wet, but the cartridges would get in the way and prevent you from wearing a full face mask, that's not feasible for children's hockey or guys who prefer to wear a full-face shield/mask. As for water, you would need to remove your mask and drink water. -
NHLPA and Board of Governors would not have read your idea.
-
That's true. it's not 100% fair. Board of Governors still have to approve it, so you never know.
-
We have our first step towards resuming the 2019-20 season with the approval of the return-to-play format by the NHLPA Executive Board. The 31 NHL team representatives voted and a majority gave the thumbs up to the 24-team, conference-based proposal. According to TVA’s Renaud Lavoie, the vote was 29-2 in favor. Now the plan moves on to the Board of Governors for their approval. ... Based on points percentage at the time of the March 12 NHL pause, the top four teams in each conference (Boston, Tampa, Washington, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Colorado, Vegas, Dallas) will receive a first-round bye. Round 1 will feature eight play-in matchups in a best-of-five series. As the play-in round takes place, the eight conference leaders could potentially take part in a mini tournament that will determine the seeding for Round 2. Reseeding after the play-in round is another topic likely to be discussed. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/nhlpa-board-approves-24-team-020855452.html

medium bauer. what's your waist size (for belts and pants)?
-
I would assume that all teams will be evenly sloppy as no one has had practices. Only problem is teams who built up momentum have lost it all at this point.
-
Funny you should mention inline. Last weekend, I thought I would find my old inline Mission hockey skates in storage and do some skating on some local roads. The boots were covered in mold, mainly on the fabric sections. I skated in them once though, and threw them out. I bought them back in the mid 90s so they got plenty of use back then. Then, I check online stores, and all online hockey stores have sold out of clearance model roller hockey skates. 🙁 New ones (that are nice) are over $400.
-
This should be interesting. They need to practice, fly around to out of town games, and since some states and Canada might not be on the same schedule of "reopening", I don't know what some teams are going to do if they can't even go to practices, much less hold games. I'm sure those teams can fly the team and staff out of town to stay at a hotel and train at another rink, but that will be rough for guys with families.

Are the newer Ribcore skates the highest volume CCM skate?
caveman27 replied to beardacus's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Not sure if these diagram/charts help you or not. I wear Jetspeed (previously known as RBZ). I have a wide foot. I wear 5.5 EE (before CCM switch sizing) in CCMJetspeed and 6.0 D in Bauer Supreme. I tried 5.5 D in Ribcore... that was tight and my feet started tingling from lack of blood supply. -
Bauer Shield For Corona Virus
caveman27 replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I can wear a respirator mask while doing lawn work or do-it-yourself activities, like this in the picture. It gets hot in the summer but its doable. But, to wear something like that to filter out viruses while playing ice hockey at 100% would be difficult. -
Harbor Freight is a hardware store with mostly "Made in China" products. I shop there to get cheap tools once in awhile. It's not junk, but it's not "long-term lasts forever" stuff either. Cheap paint brushes if you are working on a painting job that isn't for something elegant, like an outdoor fence.

Is your rink closed? Corona virus stuff

So, non-essential business were going to be able to open on Friday, April 24, 2020 (executive order 53) in Virginia. And the governor just pushed it back two more weeks to May 8, 2020.
