Is your rink closed? Corona virus stuff
caveman27 replied to caveman27's topic in Miscellaneous Discussions
For guys in a beer league, was your team going up before things got shut down? Were they getting worse? Were they staying the same? Was your team on top, middle or bottom? The team I am on got off to a rough start. We were losing games by 4 to 6 goals regularly. We made it to the bottom of our division around Christmas time. But, we started building up wins afterwards. We had some loses against better ranked teams, but they were close and lost by a point in OT. We had three regular season games to go and the league was put on hold. We were in the middle ranked fourth out of eight. I don't know how we are going to do once we get back into it, which who knows when that is going to happen. Any momentum/team mojo we had is gone for the most part. Every team makes it into the playoff so it's not like we weren't going to clinch a playoff spot. -
In these strange times we are in, I found two items are sold out everywhere. 1. web cams. 2. bidet attachments (bidet that you attach to your toilet under the toilet seat screws. Also, some office chairs are sold out, a lot more people have switched to working from home full time, like me. I ended up ordering a gaming chair.

Single Favorite Piece of Equipment Ever
caveman27 replied to beerleaguecaptain's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Micron Mega Air-90. Fit my feet perfectly, perfect boot angle, no lace bite, no problems. Of course, they weighed a ton compared to current carbon fiber boot skates, and they had this white plastic clip attached to the inside area of the boot which I didn't know if it was a gimmick or actually helped to transfer power. Maybe real leather on the inside of skate boots are the solution for good fitting hockey skates. Circle back to the things that worked in the past. For goaltending equipment, the best thing was my CCM Pro-pac goalie girdle. They were very flexible and fit great. The girdle fit tightly with the belt and laces tied up. You didn't need suspenders, but they were optional if you attached them to the shell buttons. This was back in the day before anyone tucked their chest into their pants. -
Is your rink closed? Corona virus stuff

While thinking about it all, I figure if something like this comes around again, instead of shutting everything down, people can wear masks and go about their business. It would be inconvenient to wear a respirator mask while playing hockey but doable at the same time. -

That's what folks here are saying. There's a semi-bad area where the rink doors close behind the nets. The boards aren't quite even and the ice is not level. The rink folks do level the ice maybe twice a year, once in the fall before hockey and figure skating start up and once before a big figure skating competition in the spring when they need level ice. -

The governor of Virginia has pushed back the stay-in-place order from April 24 to June 10. -

Our hockey league sent out a message to everyone, that the league is going to start up on April 27. At that point, the shut down of non-essential businesses would be lifted. I guess they are trying to be positive, and be prepared to start up if it all dies down in a month. -

Rink closure extended by a state mandate to April 23. -
PERFORMANCE: Excellent. Provides excellent grip on the stick blade to the puck. Keeps ice shavings off. It makes a difference. If I forget to put it on and I've played about two games, I can feel less grip on the puck, and feels like I have no tape on my stick. I play in senior men's league hockey so the ice shavings build up on the ice in the second to third periods. That all gets on the bottom edge of your blade as you skate around if you don't have stick wax. EASE OF USE: It is a puck-shaped block of wax. It is rubbed on hockey tape that is wrapped on a stick blade. You can put it on lightly or heavily. I rub it on the front, back and bottom edge of the blade. I put it on right after I tape up a blade, and once before each game. VALUE: This is rather inexpensive and lasts a long time.

The public schools have extended their closures from two weeks to four weeks. If the rinks follow suit, then they'll keep the rinks closed for four weeks. That will push playoffs deep into May (for our league), unless they have some midnight games in order to end the season on time for summer league, and who is going to want to play after midnight? I would, but not sure if others would. -

There was one game where we had 12 fans. It was like the NHL experience. -

I went out shopping on Friday. My wife told me to pick up non-perishable goods on the way home from work. I went to a warehouse club store, and the aisles were packed and the line to the registers were long. You couldn't avoid coming into close range with other shoppers. -

You're lucky. A lot of folks are upset the men's league is suspended. Of course, it's a way to prevent possible further spread of corona virus. There are usually 25 to 35 people (players and refs, scorekeeper/timekeeper), with about 0 to 10 fans in the stands. It's all less than 50 people in total, but if one of the players or refs or even timekeeper happens to catch it and bring it to the rink, that would expose it to a number of other people. -

I understand why they would want bars and restaurants to close. But, thinking about it, there are no closures of grocery stores. This a place where one must get food, but you don't hang out like at a bar or restaurant. But, there can be a large number of people in a grocery store that would equate to having a lot of close contact with other people like being in a bar or restaurant. When they close grocery stores, that is when the crazy panic will happen. -

The two rinks in my area are still opened. I have a game this weekend too. How are things in your town?

Decades ago, I played at a pick-up game with multiple local guys playing in NCAA Div I and Div III schools who were back home for Christmas break. I was a goalie. They sniped all corners like it was nothing. I felt like Swiss cheese. -
Hope you are feeling better though after the stents were put in.

We won our last game. I scored on a sweet pass. One of our defensemen was farting up a storm afterwards in the locker room. Fortunately, I was on the opposite side of the locker room.

Sounds like it's the team you got stuck on and the league are problems that can't fix themselves. That is to say, I'm guessing the other four goalies on the other teams are happy but wouldn't want to be in your position. I'm in a lower level division, but not by my own choice. I asked around but no one responded. The next higher division didn't have any teams that wanted a new player. The league can't force any team to pick up a player, whether their roster is literally full or they just want to keep it closed to their inner circle of friends.

pouring boiling hot water into the glove (blocker or trapper) multiple times will get rid of the body odor-based funk. You could always remove the old palm manually with a thread cutting tool tailors/seamstresses use. But, unless you have an industrial sewing machine, it would be difficult to sew in a new palm. Regular sewing machines may have difficulty poking through both the replacement palm and existing glove material. You could try to cut out a Pad Skinz in the shape of the replacement palm and stick that on. Ghetto solution and I have no idea if that would work or not. -

Probably don't need a belly extension. You will have goalie pants and a goalie jock to protect your torso where the bottom ends
