Ask me anything about the Marsblade R1
Westside replied to PetterErlandsson's topic in Roller Hockey Equipment
Are the left and right chassis now ‘left and right’ or are they both the same like with the O1? -
I did reach out to the manufacturer who advised me they were likely from two different batches which is why there may be a difference in color. Also assuring me that there is zero chance they are not perfect quality. Dubious claims as I find it hard to believe any QC would allow this much variance in the look of a product, but we’ll see once I start using them. He did also state that harder PU is milky/cloudy like you mentioned. These wheels are all supposed to be the exact same except for size. It would make sense for the larger wheels with a larger core to appear darker. It does not make sense that wheels of the exact same specs would look so different. Regarding reseller photos, I seem to always come across these two: https://www.in-gravity.com/mpc-rueda-freestyle-dual-natural-80-xfirm-pa-bullet-radius-p-1-51-17777/ And https://bladeville.com/mpc-freestyle-76mm-x-firm-dual-natural-1-pcs.html

Curiosity got the best of me so I ordered a set of MPC Freestyle wheels. Having never experienced dual pour wheels, the variation from wheel to wheel is very strange. For example, 3 of the 4 80mm wheels looks the same. One is slightly lighter in color, but not dramatically so. However, with the 76mm wheels, 2 of the 4 are noticeably lighter with one looking practically clear as though there’s no second material. Is this a manufacturing defect? Here’s a photo with the 2 lighter 76mm wheels on the top left and the 1 lighter 80mm wheel on the bottom left I’ve never gone wheel crazy, but am looking forward to the R1’s arriving even more now! Will have my standard Labeda setup, the RR Tricksters, and the MPC Freestyle to try out

Do they sell materials for player gloves or only goalie equipment? I’d love to find some different colored dynamesh or tufftek to try to reskin a pair of gloves
-
Not sure your size or color, but if you didn’t want to buy new gloves, why not buy a donor pair and take the parts you need from them? I mean these are only $10 https://sidelineswap.com/gear/hockey/gloves/2088096-easton-black-senior-used-synergy-800-gloves-12

A few suggestions/recommendations: First, before any game, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. I do this because it helps dry out your hands, removes any oils, and helps keep your gloves smelling fresher, longer. Second, take your gloves off in between shifts while on the bench. I'll usually take one glove off one shift, then the other hand the next. It's only a few minutes, but it really helps your hand breath/cool off and let a bit of air in your gloves. Third, try Tacki Mac or another tape alternative. I switched exclusively to Tacki Mac and tennis overgrips on every one of my sticks now and the amount of wear on my palms after a full season is what I'd normally see after a single game using traditional tape. If you STILL have problems, I guess you could always bring a second pair of gloves to the bench and alternate which ones you wear each period? Like already recommended, try pro stock with an overlay on the palms of nash/micronash which will be more durable than some other palm materials. If you like a tight fitting glove, I'd recommend the QRL, but they also run a bit warm so that might not work for you

STEP BLACKSTEEL for Bauer LS EDGE (where can I get it?)
Westside replied to Jordan_Rex's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Ebays obviously been around a while so you shouldn’t have any worries. I’ve been a registered user with them since 2000 and can’t even think how many things I’ve bought/sold on the site. In 20 years maybe 3 problems and all were easily resolved -
Ask me anything about the Marsblade R1

Also got an email this morning stating the small and medium chassis should ship out to users at the end of August. Was hoping they’d arrive for a birthday present but a few weeks late ain’t bad -
STEP BLACKSTEEL for Bauer LS EDGE (where can I get it?)
Westside replied to Jordan_Rex's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Not a fan of the fact the seller has zero feedback, but eBay typically sides with the buyer if the seller doesn’t get you the item as described. I'm glad I was able to stock up on 3 sets of Black steel which should last me a lifetime -

Any update on R1 shipping? -
Wheel size is dependent on frame size with the O1. I have a large chassis on an 8.5 boot and it’s a 76mm flat setup. So not as much difference compared to a 76/80 hi-lo setup
-
But you run instead of skate, right? How is that different from floor hockey? I dunno, still doesn’t appeal to me the way ice or inline does. Like I said, if I were playing a sport that required me to run I’d play lacrosse my $0.02
-
Isn’t dek ball just floor hockey? Like what you did in grade school? I don’t understand the appeal of this game. If I’m going to run around I’d just play lacrosse
-
Waiting for the R1 to arrive. Current O1 is a flat setup. I’ll be using them on asphalt; so pretty rough
-
I apologize for the misunderstanding. Thank you for the clarification

I understand paying a premium, but the gold standard outdoor hockey wheel is pretty much the Labeda Asphalt. That wheel runs $7. The MPC is more than FOUR TIMES the cost. Since this discussion started about the Slime, that wheel is $13 so the MPC is still 2.5x the cost. Comparing your logic of ‘you get what you pay for’, Step Steel or any other piece of premium equipment doesn’t cost 4x or 2.5x more than its high end counterpart. 20-50%? Sure. I’m willing to pay a premium (and do) for better performing or longer lasting gear. But I’m not willing to spend the cost of a single wheel that would normally buy a set of four. If they priced it closer to $15 there’d be a larger market willing to adopt them. For casual/rec users (non pros) I have a hard time believing that many people are going to spend that kind of money on wheels My $0.02
-
Where’s a video of the process? looking in Australia the wheels are $30 which is about $21 USD. Per wheel! When Labeda or most other asphalt wheels are $7 each, that’s a hefty investment for non-professional players
-
Geez. That’s crazy confusing. Well I picked up a set of the tricksters so we’ll see how they hold up compared to the Labedas I’m used to. Can’t seem to find the MPC anywhere in the states and spending $13+ per wheel is just nonsense
-
Isn’t that the same thing? They both have a softer inner and harder exterior (dual durometer). Not sure how you’d do this in any way other than a ‘dual pour’ manufacturing process.
-
The trickster is a dual pour wheel so it should be the same, no? https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/Rink_Rat_Trickster/descpage-RRTK.html I’d be looking to use them on the road/asphalt
-
If the MPC Freestyle are the same as the Rink Rat Trickster X-Grip, are you playing with them outdoors on asphalt or on smoother surfaces? How have they been wearing? I just picked up a set of these and they certainly feel softer than the Labeda Asphalt wheels I’ve been using for years. Concerned with longevity and durability (especially considering the price)

With the exception of another pair of gloves and a jersey or two, I’ve been pretty good with not buying ice equipment during quarantine. Roller on the other hand... got one new pair of skates, converted another pair to Marsblade O1, have another pair waiting for the R1, think I’ve tried out 3 sets of wheels, picked up a pair of sticks, and some off ice training tools. Whether you see it as a pro or a con, I’ll likely be using the roller gear a lot more in the near future. Not sure when I’ll be back on the ice which sucks

I wrote this on another forum a while back when people were inquiring about Bladetech: “Bladetech’s innovation is a notch carved out of the steel near the front part of the holder. It's supposed to allow the steel to move slightly allowing it to 'spring' in the holder, giving you a bit more burst of speed. I was given a pair of steel last year by my pro shop after a mishap. I could not tell any difference from my normal Step Steel in terms of performance, but only used them for 4-6 games before switching back to Step. I still have concern about unnecessary wear to the holder with the steel moving and not being secure, but have been assured on numerous occasions that this is not a concern. I didn't not like the steel while I used it, but am comfortable with Step so that's what I use. The BT is in backup rotation if I need an emergency set of steel. While their black/colored steel is a matte finish, not mirrored, I didn't notice any additional snow buildup on the blades vs mirrored finish Step Black. The problem with BT has been no information out there about the product. There's a bit on their website, but almost no real world reviews. Makes it difficult for anyone to learn more about them. I'm not a youtuber or gear reviewer, or anything like that. With Step now being exclusive to CCM, if you can't find Step Steel, BT is about on par with Byonic steel in terms of pricing and less expensive than Tydan“

Not bad and I like the red, but seems like they should have incorporated green since every other team in Seattle has that color palate. Agree about the waist stripes not matching the arm stripes. That’s a detail that always irks me. Pants really need a stripe on them the whole ‘krak house’ and ‘krak heads’ is absolutely hilarious!! Can’t believe no one caught that (or cared) during focus groups

Did everyone that received a delay email preorder size Large? I preordered Medium which was originally slated to arrive in August. Haven’t seen an email saying they’re delayed anymore. Any 8.5 skate owners order Large or stick to Medium? Chart shows medium as the recommended chassis but a 9 is a large. Still not sure which would be better, but thought medium will result in a smaller radius and require more balance which would benefit me on the ice
