  1. I've been using FT6 Pros since June. I recently had one fail. I could feel something was off. When I removed the tape the bottom of the blade (the part that touches the ice) was cracked. The blade felt a little squishy when playing or handling the puck on the back side. Anything off the face felt fine. Buts like 6-7 months playing 2-3 times a week.
  2. Retail. I bought it on sideline, new without packaging. Decent enough deal to give it a try.
  3. Since we're back on topic. After a handful of skates I'm still kinda meh. I never feel like it sits where it's supposed to. Yeah, it's comfortable. Not enough to live up to the hype, least not for me. It does look really good and it's much lighter than my other helmets. Im gonna try a 720 and a 910 the next time I am at a shop.
  4. A lot of pro stocks come with a factory installed extension. Sounds like you cut yours around this area.
  5. You may want to consider adding some adhesive backed shot blockers. At the very least it seels off the area and prevents chipping.
  6. You use the commercial version linked or the black plastic one with the twist lock clasp? I use the twist lock version. It's ok. I never get the feeling the blade is seated properly even though I know it's the clamp that aligns everything. It's the one aspect I don't care for.
  7. Good point. I assumed he meant the Toews branded P14. Full disclosure. The P14 I have was modified to flatten out the rocker.
  8. More open than the 88 but less then the P90TM. The 14 flatter than a P90TM which is flatter than the 28 and 92.
  9. Don't bother. The P14 is dead at retail.
  10. Pretty much what I do. I tilt the gummy stone just a bit on coated blades.
  11. I don't disagree flip. As an adult who doesn't play full contact. Ive made a conscious decision to wear something that may not be the most protective helmet on the market. At my level of play. A hockey helmet only needs to protect me from the basics. Wearing the Tacks X isnt all that different then rolling out there with a Bauer 4500 or a CCM V08. Which a ton of adults do. FWIW, had I not tried the Tacks X I would have bought another 710 which Ive worn since it's release. Both of which are 1 star rated. Now if you ask me what helmet I'd put a 13 year old in. That's a completely different story.
  12. So tell me again about these ratings..... I have had that very thing happen to me. Never hit my head, clearly concussed.
  13. Lateral move. The Tacks 710 also has a 1 Star rating.
  14. Yeah, I've bought two FT5 Pro pro-stocks in the past 18 months. Not the ones marked NHL Pro, just the regular pro stock. CCM codes are terrible to begin with. The bar code at the top of the stick from CCM agreed with what HSM labeled it as. One felt almost exact to my retail stick than the other. It looks like the hotel area was beefed up on that one. Weight wise, both were on par with the retails.
  15. I know what you mean. It's like 90% of the CCM market shoots lefty. I've had really good luck with my HSM purchases. Everything is what I expected when I ordered. As a P90TM user I find HSM to be the most accurate and consistent at labeling the various iterations. So far no "wtf's" when unboxing.
  16. Get your check books out boys cuz I'm not loving it, least not right out of the box. It doesn't fit as deep or wrap as well as my 710. Also, I don't care for the adjustment system. I much prefer the system on the older 710's even though mine recently failed. I'm gonna skate with it tomorrow and see if that changes my mind. If not, I'll grab another 710 and flip the TacksX.
  17. I use a 70 flex P90TM FT5 Pro or FT6 Pro. So, $200-ish for one of those or $179 from prostockhockeysticks.com. It's a no brainer.
  18. Having worn RBZ's, SuperTacks and FT4 Pros, I would agree. That's not to say those RBZ's or FT4 Pros aren't protective. They just aren't at the level of the Tacks.
  19. Custom wheels and knock off twigs, come on.... 😁 You don't need to pay full retail for sticks and you don't need to go to a smaller company to save money. The resale market and pro-stock markets are decent enough. Right now there are 16 listings on sideline that meet my exact specs. All are under $300US, that's $415 for you north of the boarder folks. In a pinch I'll grab a pro-stock off HSM for $210US. The question is, if you can afford custom skates why are you nickel and diming sticks...
  20. There are a number of pro teams who use them. I assume they travel with them. If you pack it right and you have the right case, it should be fine. I'd definitely check the alignment on setup. The glass door would worry me a bit. I might look to replace it with plexi.
  21. The Tacks line will generally be your most protective shin pad.
  22. Nothing screams hardo like a hacked up cage. Sorry. Any perceived benefit will be trumped by the fact that it's beer league.
  23. @Hillshave you considered using vinyl wrap, similar to what you see on cars, to change up your helmet colors?
  24. Do I get comp'd if I hate it... I'd settle for the difference between the X and a 710. Seems fair
  25. Hope you guys are right. I just bought one off Sideline.
