@smu don't sweat it. A couple of things might help. 1) if you you want to connect with a member directly, use the private message function. 2) posts on forums are best when they are direct and to the point. Skip the story, just give us the details. 3) if you need to reference your initial post, don't type it out again, just link it. Again, direct and to the point.

I agree....sort of. However. 1 The thread has become so decisive where certain people will not read it, thus not contributing. Some of those members are experienced fitters who could add a great deal to the conversation. That's actually a negative. 2 The thread is so massive you can't possibly read through it to find an answer or the info you seek. 3 The polarizing nature of the thread in my opinion is not a good look for product, the brand or the site itself. 4 Locking it down doesn't mean it goes away. If it were up to me, I'd lock, start a new one linking the old one and set some guidelines as to what goes where, maybe a catch all custom skate thread is where it's at.... 5 I think members would be better served bring their True questions to the general public. They'd get more input from a broader ranger of members and knowledge bases. It would cut back on the bickering and pom-pom waving. Again, it's not up to me. Just thinking out loud. There is one tiny little thing that irkes me. Why do some True owners feel the need to carry water for the company? Look through other threads. Anytime there is a fit question, you'll get a few True owners posting "get Trues". They aren't answering the question asked or taking into account the context in which it was asked.

It's not up to me, but I think the time is near.

A lot of what goes on here is not exclusive to True, like fit issues, and would probably be best served in another thread where it get the attention it deserves. The problem with this thread is to polarizing so some just stay away. This thread had some merit back when things transitioned from VH to True. Now with True and the process being fairly mainstream the need really isn't there. There isn't a separate thread for other brands or models, so why True....

It's not just females or younger players. I know more than a few adult males of average height and weight wearing skates smaller than a size 6, myself being one.
-
Maybe they view eyelets like laces, replaceable. It doesn't sound like they save a lot per skate. If you factory in all skates across all lines. Its probably a decent chunk of change for them.
-
I saw some 70k's on sideline done up the same exact way. You may want to hit him up for royalties.

Dave is definitely on the mark here. A great room can make even the worst game or season worth it. I played on a team that was pretty toxic. The guys were good, but there was quite a bit of drama surrounding some players moving on. It wasn't fun, neither was my role (just chip it out and go for a change). I really didn't want to play so I know where you're coming from. Finding a group you truly enjoy playing with is important.

How about a Coaches Corner or a Ask the Coach thread - Essentially a dedicated thread where players of all ages can pop in and ask questions and get answers from guys who actually coach the game. I'd suggest coaches in this section would need to be vetted and mod approved. With all the home sharpeners, maybe an updated DIY thread focused on things like sharpening and profiling might be a nice add. A beer league section. Members can share experiences, share ideas for uniforms and problem solving. Now I know many of these things already exist, but they are spread out in different sections and aren't pinned. Some of the threads have great info but are hard to find, like the shop locator for example.

I was about to ask, good thing I searched. The CT800 is said to be a true one piece design weighing in at 419 grams. Those are elite type numbers. My question is how do they compare to elite level sticks of a few years ago, say 1st gen Tacks, early Nexus 1N's or Supremes? Better yet, how do they compare to pro-stocks? I'm seeing them cheaper than $149 on sideline. Might have to experiment for myself.

I would say yes it is.

I won't argue the point, just saying thats not what I have been told. I had to guess, the change in sound and finish could be due to the wheel removing more material when making contact higher up. The sound and texture could be that excess material being stuck to the wheel early on in the pass. To me an increase in pressure or force to the blade would cuase you to experience those things for the entire length of the first pass. Again, don't want to argue the point as I am only the middle man.
-
Hmm, gonna have to check that out. I knew how it hit the toe would be affected but was fine once it got to the flat. @colins No change in pressure applied to the steel by adjusting the height. I confirmed that with someone on the inside.
-
Correct, the height adjust simply sets where the wheel makes contact with the toe/heel. There is no change in the pressure applied to the blade during sharpening. As it's been explained to me. Due to the natural shape of the blade, sharpening with the toe to the right allows you to set the height higher and sharpen further up the toe. If you're curious, manually move the wheel to just before it would make contact with the steel in both directions. Either way, it does not affect the actual sharpening. You're still getting two passes per cycle.

Maybe yes, maybe no. In the end it's True's product on his feet and their reputation. They gave the shop the tools and the training to use it and they built the skates. They can do right by then customer then put pressure on the shop to get their crap together. @smu I can't tell you how to handle the situation, that's up to you. Im fairly certain you are entitled to some relief. Paying full price for this disaster is a flat out screw job.
-
Holy shit, you paid for an holder swap that True screwed up in the first place. Not only that, they screwed up your skates once, they tried to band-aid fix the same pair with foam and masking tape. Honestly, you're getting screwed. True and your LHS should be eating the cost of the skates and refunding your money for the holder swap which should have been free in the first place. They should be apologizing to you, not the other way around.
-
@smu I'm curious, who's paying for this little disaster? I certainly hope you got a hefty price break. Just curious, you don't have to share if you don't want to.
-
How about we call it 3rd try and not argue over symantics....
-
At this point it would probably be a relief to learn it was a simple shipping error. Might even get a laugh out of it knowing some poor sole just got a pair of skates that are way too small for his feet.
-
Do you have any idea how much that sort of equipment costs, it's not cheap. That doesn't even take into account the space needed, the power to run it and the people to operate it. Again, I highly doubt that's how they are doing things. It makes way more sense from both a business and manfacturering standpoint to assemble skates using off the shelf parts. Why is this so offensive to people? Its actually pretty realistic. I'm not knocking them, they need to make money too. I wish people in this thread would be a bit more realistic.
-
I'm actually shocked someone gave them a third shot after that experience.
-
I don't think you're following me when it comes to the manufacturing process. My point is simple, the skate is not made from scratch. It's assembled from parts that are pre-made to fit a specific last. From scratch implies that ever piece is cut and made specifily for that customer. That would mean every boot was a complete one off. You can't sustain that at those costs, you just can't. As for last longer. Maybe you can prove it, it just sounds so far fetched. It's not like miles on a tire.
-
Meh…. I'm not buying it. A statement like that (bolded) gives one the impression that every facet of the skate is custom made to specs of each individual customer. That sort of process would take months and the cost would be astronomical. I highly doubt they operate like that. I'm also not buying they'll last longer. There is no real way to prove that.
-
As a player and a parent (my daughter does not play). My first reaction would be to get my kid in something that's easily replaceable. I'd do it while his/her skates were still in somewhat decent shape. That way it's not a hard transition.
-
I've played on it a bit, maybe 3 months or so. It plays like 3/4 ROH, which I actually prefer to the Fire. If you are currently playing on a 5/8 ROH and want to try a Fire, go with a 1/2 to start.
