Valor Axiom Hockey Helmet (1st 5 star Virginia Tech rated helmet)
stick9 replied to Hills's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
I am shocked by the amount of people that don't get that. -
Bringing back an oldie... I am starting to see pro-stock version on sideline for reasonable money, sub $300US. I'm curious if anyone has tried them yet and what are your thoughts. I'm currently wearing a Tacks 710 that's getting a bit mangy on the inside.
-
I'd stick with the pattern and change the flex. Or I'd do a custom order and resell a few.
-
Are you sure that's not just the pre order period? It seems really odd. If that is the case. Load up on FT5's.
-
The FT4 pro shoulders are a fantastic piece of gear. They're exactly what a modern hockey shoulder pad should be. My big disappointment with the FT4 line were the elbows. I pre-ordered a pair and when they arrived the overall fit was good they were just way too short. I might give the FT6's a try.
-
I believe this is the case as well. It seems as though Bauer only went after companies that were a sizable threat like Step and Tyden. You gotta pick your fights. We'll see if Bauer has learned from their past mistakes.
-
Probably because it's not really needed. Between socks and proper length pants it's not an issue for the majority of players. And it's added cost that most would cut off with the tags.

Custom True SVH (?) or Custom CCM FT6 pick one.
stick9 replied to Beflar's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Sigh.... There is a lot crap in this thread that really bothers me. Some comments approach Facebook level garbage. I'm not gonna get into it though. My question is simple. Who here has tried full customs from all three brands? Their input would be relevant in answering the OP's question. Though, which is better, is somewhat vague. All other comments are recommendations based of personal bias and therefore should be ignored. -
Not readily available at retail. Like Step. That may not seem like a huge deal but it will be if you break a runner. @BeflarI'd opt for the CCM XS holder with Step Blacksteel. Swapping steel may not be as fast as the Edge holder but it's easier. If the lock mechanism breaks you can replace it without removing the holder. Something worth noting, Step has a 1 year warranty on all their steel. If you break a blade, which I did, they send you a new set.

Don't forget the 50 pack of Charmin. My point from the start. Custom skates are made to your specs and foot. If made correctly why would you be unhappy. In the off chance you are, they're your specs so it's not the companies fault. It's like a salad bar. Don't get pissed at the restaurant if you don't like the salad YOU made.

Not sure what Costco has to do with this, but it should be noted that you pay to shop at Costco. I am pretty sure you aren't buying custom made items from them. The question here is, why would you go custom to "try" them??? Going retail where you have the guarantee makes way more sense. You can always return them, then go custom. BTW, True isn't going to do what you expect CCM to do. Yes, they will remake them if they are off, but you can't just walk away and get your money back.
-
Retail level. The ones I have talked to said it was mostly due to the 90 day guarantee.
-
It was a little of both. Look like it was a good call on their part. I see way more players in CCM now than I did 3-5 years ago. That makes zero sense. You don't buy custom skates to "try" them and it's not like they can reuse/resell a custom skate.
-
As I understand it, yes. Each pair is covered under the 90 day satisfaction guarantee. If you're buying multiple pairs. You may want to double check the wording of the guarantee to be safe. Also, I believe only the initial purchase is covered. If you exchange them the newer pair is NOT covered.

Yup yup. 64" sticks are not their own beast. It's a standard length shaft with a 4" extension added.
-
Wow, impressive. Thanks for posting Ben.

wearing ear buds WHILE playing
stick9 replied to shoeshine boy's topic in General Hockey Discussions
Try some "Bone Conduction" Bluetooth headphones. They don't block off the ear canal like earbuds do. If you keep the volume reasonable you should still be able to hear what's going on around you. They may or may not work with your helmet/mask. -
@Monty22 Like this... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B3XJVSRD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Cant say whether or not that specific adhesive would work on a skate. I'm sure there are similar products with a higher strength adhesive.

Yup, 100%. Charlie and the crew at 5ivehole were excellent to work with. I highly recommend them. I've also used TSR's team sales group. They do unis and swag for a lot of local HS and college teams. The other place I dealt with was homegrownsportinggoods.com. They were reasonably priced and had a decent variety of options. One downer there was they have minium order quantity of 10. Which is kind of a pain if you want or need to replace a jersey or two. Overall, 5ivehole is the way to go.

Does dropping down a model really give you a more flexible boot while still maintaining lateral support and offer premium features? The real answer is No it won't.

In Between Senior and Intermediate Sticks
stick9 replied to AnimalFear's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
You aren't the only one. As I said, you and I are roughly the same size and there are plenty of other members here in the same boat. Anyway, I wouldn't get too caught up in what a stick might be or a specific number. Focus more on how it feels when you play. It might take a few tries to find the right stick. -
In Between Senior and Intermediate Sticks
stick9 replied to AnimalFear's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
@AnimalFear CCM offers 70 flex senior sticks at retail. We're similar in size and I much prefer the 70 flex senior stick to a 75 or even 67 flex intermediates. I'm pretty sure Bauer offers a 70 flex too. But that might only be available through the MyBauer program. -
That's exactly what he's doing. For whatever the reason he likes old ratty ass gloves. Also, I don't know if you noticed but one glove is a covert the other is an Alpha. Relicing is taking something new and making it look old. This is more like Eddie's Frankenstein guitar.

CCM FT4 Pro Skates - eyelets wrecked first use
stick9 replied to colins's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Do you guys really think CCM put out baking instructions without checking the time and temps?? Come on guys, that basic engineering. They know better than that. Looks to me like a textbook example of overbaking or pulling way to hard on the laces when warm. -
Yes, my current skates are intermediates.
