  1. my two cents, not that anyone asked for them but.... if you say that a kid has to do something or something bad will happen, you have to follow through. If you don't follow through, you lose credibility. However, my parents often sprung negative surprises on me and I ended up resenting them for it for a very long time. If you are going to withhold something, they should at least have a heads up about it. Something like "if you want to do X, you better do Y" seems like fair warning to me. Now for my petty vent: damn is it cold. If I complain about the heat this summer, I authorize anyone on this site to give me a good kick in the pants.
  2. 3/8 - 100/75 5/8 - 90/75 It stays in the same "family" of x/75 hollows
  3. I usually dress for every pair, or for every skate if I have to fix a lot of problems on the steel. More consistent speed and pressure should reduce/eliminate the waves. A finishing product like an oil or wax on the last pass will also help.
  4. It didn't help that he had an immature star making his job much more difficult.
  5. No, I don't. As much as I like Eddie, he was not good as a head coach.
  6. He's used to doing Devils games, you have to find some way to amuse yourself when you have to watch that 82 times a year.
  7. I was surprised that it wasn't mentioned before, but then I remembered that I'm on the older side of the average age, On topic: he was one funny man.
  8. The government is starting to crack down on that a bit. Way too many companies have been trying to use them as free labor instead of a learning experience.
  9. Parents like that are the worst part of youth sports. Obviously passing to the other kids will keep his son from making the NHL.
  10. It had devolved pretty badly. I'm willing to leave this one open for a while to see if it can remain productive.
  11. Hopefully today was the final insult from the company. I'm on the verge of breaking.
  12. Ever have one of those days, that turns into one of those weeks, that turns into one of those months? I'm hoping my luck changes soon, I can't take much more of this.
  13. Generally, it will just take a bunch of extra passes.
  14. Every travel hockey team thinks they get screwed at home by the refs. Just like every travel hockey team thinks they get screwed on the road by the refs.
  15. Congrats, having a happy "customer" always makes you feel good about your work. I was having trouble with my machine the other day and hand honed 6 pair of skates for guys on the team that gave me their skates. The funny thing is that most of them never would have known that I didn't use the machine. Then again, I did use three different stones, including a knife sharpening block, and most of them did end up with pretty nice edges.
  16. You are incorrect, 100/50 is considered similar to 1/2". Please see this chart http://www.blackstonesport.com/FBV_Comparison_Chart.pdf I do think you are correct in suggesting 95/75, though. Most of the guys on my team came from 1/2" and all but one prefers 95/75 to 1/2"
  17. As far as Blackstone goes, you have to go above the X series to get a machine where a shaping system is available. You could always do the old fashioned method, measuring and marking to get the points for manually profiling. If you aren't doing it commercially, it just makes more sense to send the steel off a couple times a year to be profiled by someone else.
  18. The will always be some "lost" sales opportunities for people that can't wait or find one on closeout, but it's a much "safer" method of doing business.
  19. It's not so bad if they are doing it because there wasn't anyone more qualified available. When those people think they are great coaches and prevent more knowledgeable people from getting involved, that's a different story.
  20. No, that's not bad business or ridiculous at all. In fact, it's the exact opposite. The day that the Mako 2 becomes available, they can't sell the original at a profit. Every manufacturer in the industry tries to sell through their product before the replacement hits the market. To do otherwise would guarantee a money losing operation.
  21. I speak from experience on this one: Do not drink when you are down if you have issues with depression.
  22. Not much has gone well for me lately, it's going to be great when this run of bad luck is over.
  23. Two more weeks on the shelf, head injuries suck
