  1. The last six months has been one kick in the teeth after another.
  2. It cal also allow the moisture to rot the sole. Most shops I have seen use glue or epoxy to fill old holes.
  3. More bite when you dig in and better glide in a straight line
  4. Completely different technique with speed skaters as well. The difference in going up a size on hockey steel is almost entirely psychological. Most skaters would achieve the same results with improved technique but a lot of people want shortcuts.
  5. The width of the flat at the bottom of the V is a significant factor in the performance. Yes, the edges are taller with the x/75 hollows, but you still get more glide due to the geometry of the overall shape.
  6. It doesn't make your legs any longer or stronger
  7. a 9' radius has the same amount of steel on the ice, regardless of the size. The only thing is does is make it easier to maintain balance if you get your shoulders farther forward of your center of gravity.
  8. I used some pliers to compress the second washer
  9. I understand how you feel. My wife had our Aussie (who was really sick) put down when I was in Vegas for the hockey show a couple years ago. The real kicker was that it was on my birthday.
  10. Thanks guys, after six+ months, I'm pretty frustrated with the whole process. At my current rate of progress, I'm probably still a couple months away from being right.
  11. Shaving discussion moved to the shaving topic
  12. Most of the guys on my team felt similarly about the 100/50, all but one of the guys coming from 1/2" prefers the bite of the 95/75 to the 100/50. I would check to make sure your edges are level before making the decision to try the 95/75. If it isn't a problem with the sharpening, go ahead and jump to the 95/75.
  13. Saw my fourth doctor for the concussion stuff today. Strangely enough, I have to wait for him to tell the insurance company what he thinks I should do and they will tell me. Since this is my third serious one, I am a little concerned.
  14. Bauer makes good skates, but they are not for everyone (nobody makes the right skate for everyone). In fact, most amateurs don't need anything close to the stiffness of an APX or MX3. As for the copying, that's absurd. The concept is so different that anyone saying that is not someone that I would listen to. I never tell anyone what to buy, I only suggest that they try things out and then make their own decision.
  15. Lots of options but I set things and leave them. I can see how you could get too distracted by tweaking everything, though.
  16. Sure, but the preference is for the weight and that preference colors every other judgement that follows.
  17. Ovation sales have been declining for years, that was bound to happen. Nobody buys the high end models anymore and almost everyone has their budget models produced overseas. Fender also sold off the Guild brand a week or two after that announcement.
  18. Ok, so you weren't the guy wearing a Leafs jersey banging on the glass.
  19. A single wheel will last months for anything short of running a business. Having a stone or two and some type of gauge for measuring the edges are the only tools I would say you must have.
  20. I'm so used to the first generation Mako that those almost look bland to me. Either way, they are great skates.
  21. There are a couple sites that offer freelance work, a few agencies too. It really doesn't take a big investment in equipment to get good results.
  22. Maybe some stick wax on the stick to make it easier to grip, or even a larger size?
