  1. Thanks to the jackass who decided drive right out in front of me from a sidestreet without even attempting to stop or slow down. If your brakes were out then how the hell did you stop after I hit you.
  2. Cardio does burn fat but there is a different percentage of fat calories burned between the fat burn level and cardio level. However, while the percentage might be higher at the fat burn level you could still burn more fat calories by working at the cardio level as you would be burning more total calories by working the same amount of time at a cardio level versus fat burn level. All of that said, exercise is just one component of trimming the fat. You also have to pay attention to not only how many calories you're putting in but also what type of calories and when you are taking them in. Getting proper rest at night is another overlooked component. A good night's sleep helps the body to recover from exercise and a well rested person tends to take in less and better calories than a tired person.
  3. The question I would ask is how long are you working out and how much intensity? To burn fat it is recommended that you work at a moderate intensity for at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. You can break that up into 3 ten minute exercises if you want. The elliptical should have the guidelines for your heart rate of a moderate intensity.
  4. I thought that was what the $10 "gear exchange" fee was for......
  5. Keep it up now and make yourself the team example of the commitment to fitness. Show the coach that you can be a self-motivator and the next time the coach has to talk to a player about his fitness he'll say, "Be more like Tips over there."
  6. Having a coworker dumb enough to tell me that the reason she didn't do her work was because of a system error, especially when one of my responsibilities is to be the system administrator for the software in question.
  7. His play by play is fine but the horrible references and pun-ish lines are just brutal, especially when he's getting just far too over-the-top excited. Perhaps I'm just too spoiled from the days of Fred Cusick.
  8. Stop just submitting the claim and get a hold of their grievance department. You should have better luck as long as you've still got evidence of the 3 submissions that were "lost" by the insurer.
  9. Jack Edwards can still make it pretty tough sometimes.
  10. So you had to hit the emergency room 3 times for the same broken ankle?
  11. Might be tough to find another team. What starts out as a perceived lack of commitment to fitness turns into a reputation for laziness. Did they give you specifics such as they see you fading late in games or losing too many battles for the puck? Is it your diet that they see as a problem and you're carrying around a couple more pounds of fat than they'd like? I'd say that you are better off trying to prove that you can be committed and belong.
  12. Cue Glenn Close. "I'm not going to be ignored."
  13. Right or wrong, that is what you get when the career politicians simply refuse to get anything done and believe they are simply entitled to their seat.
  14. Once the whistle goes, that's it. Sucks for the Dolphins but them's the breaks.
  15. Actually, we aren't. There are plenty of kids around these parts.
  16. Not sure if this is the thread to equate anything to a death in the family, especially jokingly, as some folks have had vents about just such occurrences.
  17. I think the issue that will probably never get solved is finding a way to protect the little guy and keep them competitive with the box store/online warehouses. Right now, one of the only possibilities I see is for small shops to form buying groups or form partnerships with others outside of their local area in such a way that they can take advantage of the volume pricing/discounts that the bigger players get. Otherwise, unfortunate as this sounds, LHS will become little more than tiny storefronts that do barely anything other than sharpenings and repairs.
  18. I believe in the original story that the LHS was more expensive than the online price and they were only comparable once shipping was included. As for why the consumer still went with online, perhaps, as guessed earlier, the online site offered free shipping for purchases over a certain value. The way the economy has been the last couple of years folks are trying to save every penny they can.
  19. What exactly is the harm of the family doing it all by themselves? It isn't like they took the kid away from someone else who was buying and wasted his time for no sale.
  20. Again, knowing all of the info about a stick means nothing without feeling the stick in your hands. Making customers ask to see a particular stick in a particular curve and flex kills any chance of getting that impulse buy as a customer is waiting for their skates to be done or who is wandering the shop before picking up some tape.
  21. You shouldn't be making out with your teammate.
  22. How does one sample of each model help a consumer buy a stick? What if the sample isn't the pattern the person is looking for? A different pattern can make a stick feel very different in someone's hands than the pattern they normally use.
  23. Dads tagging the babysitter is an age old tradition.
