  1. Try lacing from the outside in. Instead of inside out. Here is a video showing it. I had lace bite in my older skates so I started doing this. I only do this starting 4 eyelets down from the top though so lace inside out till pretty much the curve of the boot then I go outside in.
  2. My favorite player as a kid didn't tape the toe of his stick so naturally I didn't tape mine. Every time I tried taping the toe I feel like I don't shoot as well. It's probably purely a mental thing but whatever if it ain't broke don't fix it.
  3. There is a difference between "showing more wear" and breaking down prematurely. A friend of mine did a pair of full custom CCM Jetspeed FT1s right when CCM announced they were doing custom skates. I sharpen his skates for him and while yes they do mark up easily they are far from prematurely breaking down. They are still as solid as the day he got them. He skates about 3 times a week.
  4. We have an area skating coach who swears by putting his students on 3/8ths to teach proper edge work. I get it for the real little kids since they aren't heavy enough to get the bite they need out of a shallower hollow. Where I have the problem is when his high school aged students ask for it I can only think of how much speed they are loosing by digging too much into the ice. Our shops "standard" is 5/8ths. We give that to people when we ask them how they want their skates done and they respond "I don't know? The regular?" I typically try to educate them even if they aren't listening. Tell them I am giving them 5/8ths and if they want it sharper next time come in and ask for 1/2. We have the ability to do 9/16 but I prefer to give them the option to experiment.
  5. I agree with @psulion22 I work part-time in a shop and sharpen my own skates we use the spinner system to dress the wheel. I have been skating at 5/8ths for probably about 10 years. A friend of mine has a sparx and I was curious so I had him cut my skates at 5/8ths. I was there when he did it we did 8 passes on each skate. When I tried them out they didn't feel like they had the same bite as when I do them on the blademaster. The best way to describe what I felt was a 5/8th sharpening that had been skated on once or twice. For me when I no longer have access to a sharpener i'll probably buy the blackstone portable machine. This was mainly a test to see if I would buy a sparx over the blackstone.
  6. Yes, I agree this video is somewhat informative but also has terrible misinformation. You should stay within the retail line that best fits your foot shape. Just because it's a fully custom skate does not mean you can choose any skate in the CCM line like the video suggest.
  7. Interesting talk with the man behind the custom pro CCM gear
  8. They are on the CCM website I'm willing to be they are also in the CCM Catalog too which means any shop with a CCM account should be able to order them.
  9. I used to wear lacrosse elbow pads pretty much from the time I started playing, through college and up until a few years ago. For the same reasons as @start_today said I switched to CCM Quick Lites and never looked back. Took a spill landed directly on my elbow and it hurt for a few weeks. I really like the mobility of the 3 piece elbow. @BruinDust look into some 3 piece elbow pads.
  10. sideline is referring to the website www.sidelineswap.com it's similar to eBay but its mostly for sports equipment.
  11. Thanks, @JR Boucicaut as it turns out it's not my shop and I don't make the decisions so I just get to work with what I have. Thanks for the suggestions though.
  12. Question about setting up new steel on the CAG. Do I cross grind then put the steel in the CAG and set my desired profile then finish it on the blademaster or do I cross grind put an edge on it put it in the CAG and then finish it on the blademaster. The latter of the two seems a bit redundant. I just want to make sure I am doing it right.
  13. If your LS2 holders are in good shape keep the holders and just get new steel. Have the LHS check and make sure the holders are just aligned properly.
  14. You should be able to just put new size 280 holders on the skates. However, you're looking at spending $130ish for new holders and steel before labor. Figuring labor will be another $35-$50 you're probably better off buying new skates.
  15. I saw this post on the geargeek's instagram. I'd love to know the story.
  16. They are making 3D printouts of each foot and building the skate around those.
  17. I’m pretty sure when Bauer gets the scan they look at it and make adjustments to the skates as needed even if you don’t put notes in. What food beds came with your custom skates? Are they the stock Bauer ones? If they are they aren’t that thick they are just covers for the rivets basically. I’m not sure if they take into account speed plates or not. That’s a good question.
  18. @oldtrainerguy28 we were talking about how this post did not fully answer the question the op posted. As far as I understand for the mybauer custom skates if you ask for increase quarters or more ankle padding in the notes of the scan it is something bauer will do for you. It is not just a stock boot with different lengths and width. See @JDub post here on page 7 and scroll down a little he answers some of these questions. And as @Nicholas G stated you can always go with traditional bauer customs the way they were done prior to the 3D scans. Usually, that's about $100 on top of the cost of a retail skate.
  19. I would love to see 3 pinned topics with a format similar to the reviews section where the comments are monitored and have to be approved prior to going into the thread for all 3 custom options so the misinformation and speculations get cleared up. The issue is who is going to monitor the threads? It has to be someone who knows the process of the 3 manufactures and I think that's too much to ask of someone to do.
  20. @Nicholas G is only referring to one form of "custom" skates where they make a 3D print of your foot and bake a pair of Tacks. There is a fully custom option (http://www.jerryshockey.com/ccm-3d-fit-scanner-custom-skates , https://www.sportsetc.net/news/hockey-equipment/new-ccm-3d-hockey-skate-scanner , http://www.paynesportssales.com/customskates/ )for CCM as well where you can do different quarters, tongues, liners, ankle foams ect.
  21. Good call on the trigger taper lol
  22. https://www.instagram.com/p/BrQR8d2hzci/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link ASU's gold jetspeed sticks and new jerseys
  23. Wayyyy more common than you think. I was once talking to an ex AHL/ ECHL pro and he said: "I don't know what size skates I wear they just measure my foot and hand me a pair of skates". For every pro like Crosby who is extremely in tune with everything and knows everything about their gear, there are at least 3 guys who don't care/ know.
  24. @smu I think you were trying to quote @CigarScott
