  1. If I'm a local shop, I'm probably not super excited about baking and molding to your feet the skates that you bought online, unless the shop is charging a pretty hefty baking fee.
  2. http://www.hockeymonkey.com/warrior-krown-hockey-helmets.html Hockey Monkey is certainly capitalizing on this. Also, I'm pretty sure I checked the site right after the study came out to see if they were even still available, and the price was 60 something, now they're charging $80. I might be misremembering, but I don't think I am.
  3. Is it common for places that have the Blademaster BFD system to say that they have FBV? I skated on FBV for a while and liked it, and I know the store I initially got it from did a good job, they are just an hour drive away. I went to a big chain store nearby to get it done, and they told me they did FBV. I asked for 100/50 for me and 100/75 for my wife, and he said no problem. When I got them back, mine felt ok, not great, and my wife was really unhappy with how hers felt. When I took my wife's back, and asked for the 100/75 FBV, the kid gave me this dopey look while I repeated it a few times, then I said "it's sort of equivalent to the 3/8 ROH," thinking that maybe they use some in-house terminology. He talked to the other sharpener, and the second guy said "that's an X6." I wasn't familiar with the Blademaster system at all, and again assumed it was in-house terminology for FBV. Given his confusion, I should have just walked away, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was new and just doing in-take and was learning the ropes. So, long story aside, is it common for shops to misuse terms like that? I feel like I was intentionally mislead since multiple people at the store confirmed FBV, and the 1st guy confirmed my requested 100/50, 100/75 sharpenings, even though that's not technically what I received. From a little reading I've done, it seems like even though BFD copied FBV, it's not really a comparable product.
  4. Didn't everyone complain about the quality and comfort when Easton was on the "omg, lightest skate ever" bandwagon?
  5. As someone who doesn't know anything about riveting, what is sloppy about those?
  6. If you keep your arm out of the sun, heal properly, and apply sunscreen regularly when you're outside, fading shouldn't be a problem. Color can fade just as easily as black & gray scale. With a nautical theme, there's a lot of awesome opportunity for color and light play with the water. As someone who as never met you, seen your other tattoos, and has no idea who does your work, I'd say go for it. They make neoprene sleeves that you can pull over your arm that block UV rays. I just keep two in my car and pull them on whenever my arms are sitting in the sun. I make sure I put on longsleeves or sunscreen if I'm going to be outside doing yard work or playing sports or something. http://www.tatjacket.com/cover-up-sleeves--original-full-length-sleeves.html That's how my wife and I have both always done ours, and I'd guess we have 50+ hours between us, all of which have healed great. We do a thin layer of A&D ointment for the first 2 or 3 days. Rinse it off every evening and morning with cold water then reapply. If you apply too much or start getting it on area that aren't healing, you may get small rashes with bumps from the skin not breathing (it's nothing to worry about, just itchy). Once it heals after a few days, we just use unscented lotions for 2 -3 days until it's done flaking.
  7. Or for $100 you could buy a prostock return or spend a little more and get something on clearance from last year that you know is a decent stick.
  8. I'll add my voice as one of the dissenters. I had 2 of the DJ200 jerseys and was pretty underwhelmed. I got a large and it seemed pretty tight. I wore it for a few pickups, and it started to get runes in the material after only 3 or 4 skates. I emailed them and they were really quick and friendly about replacing it, and even let me go up a size. The replacement jersey started getting runs after not very long as well. At the same time I bought an LE standard blade, again because of the price. As people have mentioned it had poor feel, and despite being labeled a PM9/modano "clone," it was different enough that I didn't bother using it long. I don't have it in front of me, but it was noticeably more open, even when looking at it on its own and not directly comparing it to more established companies. Jerseys and blade were inexpensive and the service was good, I just didn't like the product. I'd rather spend the extra money and and get a product I know is quality and reliable, than cheap out and get something that's "good enough."
  9. To see what the hype was about, I bought a Tron LE blade a month ago that was advertised as the modano/zetterberg clone. I don't know if it was a bad batch or what, but the curve seems to be more towards the heel, and slightly more open. Looking back, I probably should have contacted them to see why there was a discrepancy, but I didn't plan on using it much, so I just put it in the pile. It looks like other people have had better experiences, but to me it just seems like one of those reminders that you get what you pay for, and that I'd be happier in the long run just spending the money on exactly what I want, rather than relying on something that's "close enough."
  10. Are these toecaps better than the ones on the initial mission line? Best of luck, I'm excited to see the final product, and glad to see that you're back in the industry (and back on the board).
  11. I need a size medium, but thanks. I'm just trying to do the math if I'm better of buying a used set from a friend, or taking apart an old pair of skates that I use a few times a year.
  12. LoXish, did you have to add any shims or do any dremmeling to get those tri-di to fit? I have a set of tri-di mags that I'm considering using for a conversion, but I'm kind of balking at how well they'll fit. Obviously every skate is going to be a little different, but I just wondered how you did it. **edit - fixed addressee in my question.
  13. If the decision is yours, and it's for you and nobody else, why ask the advice of strangers on a message board? How long have you wanted it? Wait 6 months, then make the appointment. If you still want it then, then get it.
  14. Hopefully these were Satan's last games on a team with Chara. I'm assuming the bruins hold onto him for the rest of the season in case of injuries, but I'd rather see someone younger get ice time and not produce instead of seeing someone who should probably just retire not produce
  15. I feel like they have been getting away from the constant pass behind the net breakout. The past 3 or 4 games they've really cut back, enough so that I feel like they're changing strategy. Now it seems like if they do it, it's mostly do it out of necessity of that specific play, not as the automatic go-to option. Hunwick just made a terrible decision. He had space with no one on him, I still can't figure out what he was doing. I assume if Ference ever gets healthy, and no one else gets injured, Hunwick takes a seat. Apparently most of his hockey skill was stored in his spleen.
  16. I sat through Satan on the Pens last year, and I'm really disapointed in this signing. It's only $700,000, but I would rather have seen that money go to someone who is a legit scoring threat. I know they're dealing with the cap, I just don't want to see management slipping back into that prior zone where they cheap out on everything. If you're not scoring with malkin or crosby as your center, you're probably not scoring with savard or krejci. He also has a history of a less than stellar work ethic, which I think is a key element of the Bruins. eh.
  17. This is the second weekend this month where Boston has had back to back fri-sat games, and they're both on NHL network, so I don't get them on center ice. crappy. I spent the whole week looking forward to chilling with the dog and a giant bowl of popcorn. I still can, but it's less enjoyable without the bruins. God forbid the nhl not squeeze every dollar possible by just showing the nhl network games on center ice.
  18. We were talking about that during the game last night. What happens to an nhl team that they just don't appear to hussle the entire time. It is a coaching issue, or training, or the players fault?
  19. Ahh, you got it JR! I mentioned those Revolver Chassis back in the thread I just couldn't remember the name of them. Hop in the way-back machine and have a look! Revolver Chassis Looks somewhat Sprung-ish. Eh, not really, except for maybe they way they are rockered. The idea was that you could rotate your wheels with less work. Just flip off the chassis, and you're good to go. You could only change front to back and left to right. Actually, when I think about it now it was really clever engineering, but a crappy idea in practice. I spent 20 minutes looking for a picture of these or the actual name, but couldn't find one. When I checked the thread again, JR had posted it. My friend had these a pair of Tacks inline that came with these. I thought he was the luckiest kid ever. When the chassis started falling off in the middle of every game, he replaced them with those white nike federov skates. ...rich kids...
  20. blood has been shed Fedorov#91, you're thinking Seemless. My good friend Derek is the drummer (as well as Unearth, and Kingdom of Sorrow *aka* Hatebreed + Crowbar)....great band. \m/ BROOTAL GROOVE \m/ haha.. Chikin... Howard from BHBS is the new singer for KSE. Massachusetts is an incestual pool of metal and hard rock.. everyone's played with everyone at one point or another. Before singing for Kill Switch Engage and Seamless, that guy sang for a band called Corrin. You can listen to two songs and read about them hear here: http://www.onedaysavior.com/blog/2007/01/c...ian-shores.html
  21. Depending on how you lean in this genre, I could probably talk about this stuff all day, particularly the late 90s stuff that lead to the current crop of bands. My initial recomendations are: Defunct Bands: Prayer for Cleansing: http://www.myspace.com/prayerforcleansing Moshy metal/hardcore from North Carolina. Two guys from this band (paul and tommy) went on to be in BTBaM. Wings of Scarlet http://www.myspace.com/wingsofscarlet Sick/Brutal/Heavy metalcore from Wisconsin, that has some awesome soaring guitar parts. I assume they didn't get more popular because they were from the middle of nowhere. Creation is Crucifixion: http://www.myspace.com/creationiscrucifixionfans Tech metal/hc from pgh that's similiar to the first DEP record. The drummer is in the somewhat popular (in some circles) grindcore band Cattle Decapitation. Overcast: http://www.myspace.com/overcastrocks Boston metal/hc that's pretty brutal. The singer is the current singer for Shadows Fall, and two other guys (maybe guitarists? I don't know) started Kill Switch Engage. This is way more crushing than those bands, and has way less wanky guitar parts. All of these bands are broken up, and aren't seeing any sort of royalties from cd sales, and never had any ideas of making money. I can "get" you the albums through internet magic if you'd like. Current Bands: Cursed: http://www.myspace.com/cursedhardcore My favorite band right now (they just broke up, but whatever). Fast and dirty hardcore/punk/metal with brilliant bitter lyrics. Heaven Shall Burn: http://www.myspace.com/officialheavenshallburn Metal from Germany. I think their older albums are better, and may be more in line with what you want. The older stuff has less solos and more mosh parts than the stuff on the myspace page. You guys who were talking about Unearth would definately dig this. Trap Them: http://www.myspace.com/trapthem This might be more hardcore/punk influenced than what you're looking for, but it's definately fast/loud. Hero Destroyed: http://www.myspace.com/herodestroyed Heavy hardcore/metal with technical guitar parts. Just releaed a cd on Relapse Records. Conelrad: http://www.myspace.com/conelrad Weirdo metal from Pittsburgh. Techy guitars, crazy druming that's like 90% fills. At the Gates: http://www.myspace.com/atthegatesband I think a lot of the up and coming metal bands that are on the radio bite off of their "slaughter of the soul" album really bad. This band more or less set the standard for metal bands in Sweden. I tried to pick out bands that fit in with the ones that you listed. I can give other recomendations that are more metal, less metal, more punk, more noisey, etc. Or maybe this all blows and sounds like music made by idiots who can't keep time. You likely wont' be able to find most of this stuff at best buy, but should be able to order in on the interweb with a little searching. I can direct you to proper places if need be. I don't read this thread that much, so if you have any questions or want to hear more from these bands or similiar bands, PM me and I can help out.
  22. So, your basic complaint is that this guy goes out of his way to give you free tape and laces and personal help in choosing equipment, but then charges more than some giant warehouse in california?
