This is my guess too. You only relaunch the TPS brand to appeal to a bunch of middle aged folk, and you’re doing it way more on nostalgia than tech.

What (if any) holders have the same hole patter as Bauer edge? My friend cracked his Edge holder and we are looking at other options. Would like to avoid drilling new holes.

Everyone over 40 thinks these look amazing, everyone under 30 is like “where are the racing stripes, grandpa?”

Has anyone worn the CCM m150 referee jersey? How does it fit? This is the cheaper model, not the pro. Specifically looking at how much room the sleeves have for elbows. I’m looking to get into reffing, but also not wanting to drop a bunch of money if I don’t like it. So, hoping to get buy on the less expensive jersey and ideally being able to use player elbows rather than buying a new set for reffing.

Possible Supination - Outside Edge Issues
start_today replied to FlyChicaga's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
When he was working at a different shop before he had his own thing, he put inline chasis on a pair of ice skates for me, so essentially a holder swap. It’s been 12 or so years and I barely use them, but he did a good job. In all of my experiences with him, both mailing steel and in person, he has really good attention to detail, so I’d personally trust him. -
Sounds like you have at least two stores near you. The store with the Bauer scanner and the one without. Go and try on a ton of skates. Seems like you need to figure out what size skate you wear and what boot shape best fits your foot. You’re all over the place with sizing. Do you have access to a store with staff who are skilled at fitting skates? Go and have them help you get your size and shape dialed in. You’ve already made a 1k+ mistake. If you don’t have a local store you trust, spend some time and money driving to one you do trust. Buying skates blind off of the internet, especially customs that may have some weird stuff going on, is just throwing more money around that may or may not work.

Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
start_today replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Apologies, I’m not a tools-y or technical person. What size washer do you use? Is there a particular thickness or diameter I should get? Thanks! -
Anyone know what part this is?
start_today replied to shoot_the_goalie's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Yeah, this looks like something that maybe fell in the helmet, and then fell out of the helmet, but isn’t actually related to the helmet. -
Average consumers too often equate price to quality, so they assume high end true skates can’t be as good as Bauer or CCM if the flagship doesn’t cost four figures. True makes the price four digits, and when Johnny Suburb and his mom go skate shopping in August, suddenly Trues are now on the same tier because they cost more.

Every logo and design that Utah has produced would be underwhelming and uninspired for a beer league team, let alone a franchise that cost a billion dollars.

Base responded to your very specific and very valid complaints about that order like it was a product that they didn’t 100% produce from start to finish. They might as well have sent you a gif that says “sucks brah, good luck with that.”
-
If you complain, worst they’ll do is ignore you. Plus, we are all curious how they’ll respond!

Is True doing two lines of skates, like Vapor and Supreme, or did the Hrzdus replace the Catalyst? Hrzdus sounds like an off brand energy drink, or a Christian rapper who primarily tours county fairs in the midwest.

My guess it’s more than the colored tints are less dark than super smoked visors. If you’re trying to find research or studies, maybe also check out goggles for snow sports. Those have a huge range of tints, but it seems like they are mostly for degrees of how bright it is outside, and for aesthetics. Pink tinted sunglasses and snow goggles for sure make colors “pop.” That line about “roses colored glasses,” is real. The world just looks better through a rose tint haha. I find with snowboarding, a lighter yellow tint helps me see land/height/depth contours in the snow better. But, again, I’m not sure that is so much based on color as it is how much light it blocks vs lets in. Maybe a blue tint that blocks X% of light would be the same result.

That’s like “I’m never gonna change the air filter my car because once I took it to jiffy lube and there was a small mark on the bumper when I got it back. Better to just get poor gas mileage and breathe dirty air than risk a blemish on my car.” You’re spending 100s of dollars on skates, worried enough about the fit that you are posting here, but then not even taking the steps to properly fit them all the way. Go get them baked, you will be happier with fit and performance.

Rbk style Skate locks any demand for manufacture?
start_today replied to Vince58's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
For me, these lacelocks were the #1 hockey thing that seemed like an actual innovation and great idea that was phased out and never caught on. So, I assume there’s some sort of demand for them, but it might be all 40 year olds who spend their hockey life trying to regain the glory of their late 20s when it seemed like they were better players. -
Journey to find the “best” shoulder pads!
start_today replied to HockeyLover5's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
With protective especially, there is no “best.” At some point you are trading degrees of breathability and movement and weight for protection. So, you gotta figure out how to configure those different things that work for you. Think of it like creating a character in a video game. You have an allotted number of points, so you can’t just put every category at 100. If you want lighter, they’ll be slightly less protective, etc It’s been a while since I wore CLs, and everyone liked them, but it’s not like you’re gonna put them on and be like “oh, these are clearly noticeably better than everything else and it was worth paying $200 for a used pair of 10+ year old shoulder pads, plus all the time I spent looking for them.” Rather than thinking about “THE BEST,” the about “these are fine.” Get something that does its job and you don’t notice them much, and spend the money on sticks or drugs or something fun. Protective stuff generally won’t improve your game like sticks or skates might*. Just find something you can be content with and don’t overthink it. *these really don’t either, but let’s pretend. -
If they add volume to the those fits, doesn’t that mean that people who fit well into fit1/tapered will get pushed out the other way, and skates will have too much volume?

change runner on Bauer Supreme S25 (Lightspeed Pro II)
start_today replied to Drezulk's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Why do you need to change the steel? Is it broken, or you want to upgrade it? To put new holders and steel on, your cost would probably be around $100+ if you could find used stuff that works, much more for new. For those skates, you’re better off just putting that money towards new skates. -
For what it’s worth, I generally wear 15” gloves, but felt 15” Trues were too long in the fingers when I tried them on, and a touch roomier that I wanted. They were 7X and 9X. I honestly don’t know if they have had different iterations of those yet. I assume glove fits change slightly person to person, depending on the size ratio of fingers to hands.

Custom Sticks question, overseas options
start_today replied to bthompson1286's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Do non-nhl pro players even have options to these hyper specific types of requests? If I was an AHL player, could I request a custom shaft shape on a model from 5 years ago? Or would the eqm just tell me to shut up and get on the bus? -
Cranky adults like us who are irrelevant don’t like the bright bold colors. Kids who buy new skates every year do. Youth tastes 100% drive the aesthetic designs, and that’s pretty much guarantees to be the opposite of what older players like. Just wait 20 years and all black skates will come back and then the 30-40 year olds on here will be complaining how modern skates these don’t have giant streaks of color on them.

Custom true skates vs. ccm full custom+ vs. Bauer custom
start_today replied to iceman8310's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
The power feet are an interesting feel. If you’re intrigued, buy some or make some. I like the zero negative space feel with the very slight pressure on my toes.
