  1. can you speak to the passion and life long dedication to teams that hardcore soccer fans in europe have? thats what i witnessed at madison square garden. dude got razzed for wearing another teams jersey. it's almost to be expected.
  2. i saw the rangers take on the caps almost three years ago at msg (when brashear fought shanny). it was an amazing game, i almost cried at the end because of the emotion and passion those fans had for the game (the goal song (which i got to hear something like 5 times), the timed chants, "sweet caroline" and how the crowd kept singing after the music stopped and play commenced, the crazy dancer in the nose bleeds, etc etc) and dude... there was a guy wearing an ovy jersey a few rows ahead of us, and we were surrounded by blue shirts. they were ABUSING this guy (some fans had their kids involved), and he was taking it... then he turned around and challenged a bunch of the fans, threats started being thrown around and all of a sudden this one rangers fan goes up to him and points to the exit. he says "just leave before they get you" and the guy leaves.... the whole section applauded. it was amazing. no security/hosts involved. coming from vancouver, where all you see in the lower bowl is suits, jet set™ escorts and dudes with aston martins wearing leather jackets and paying $40 to valet at gm place, blackberries and the mascot macking on hot socialite women, and a fuckin inflatable whale dropping lame coupons from sponsors, it was great to see some PASSION and real fans, as opposed to people who were there because its the place to be seen. i dont condone bullying, and i certainly dont partake in it, but it made me realize what being a fan meant.... fanatic. whether or not the team is in vogue doesn't really matter, showing passion/support/loyalty to your team is part of the thrill.
  3. agreed. for about the first 2-4 games per season, i find myself yelling at dudes to "keep your stick down, or take your cage off" one guy did it again after i told him to watch it and i ended up chasing him to his bench... where his teammates echoed my sentiments. most people over the age of 25 seem to get it, though. here's another unwritten rule: PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH. if you're going to lecture everyone on the bench, follow it up on the ice.
  4. if you alternate the gear, neither of the sets are "new". i used to employ that method, but i don't play as much (twice a week now)... and if i do, i just bring extras of the shit that takes longer to dry (skates, gloves and base layer) also, my place has geothermal radiant floors and it seems like my gear dries WAY faster.
  5. since we're on the topic of gloves
  6. people on the other side of the world are also handing out the awards, so take it for what its worth.
  7. you tell me the last time a president got elected and people on the other side of the world were celebrating and dancing in the street. thats a HUGE impact.
  8. it's great to see the Canucks dominate, but on the other hand, price is my man in net for one of my pools and 7 gaa ain't good
  9. oh yeah. you have to be super careful with that
  10. its a great pic. the holders for my grafs are still MIA, so i'll be bringing my T1i to our next game to snap some pics. we're debuting our new edge jerseys (damn!)
  11. Not to mention it is impossible to make a left turn in VC. No turn lanes, no turn arrows. You can literally spend 1/2 hr at one traffic light. furlanitalia lives in the beautiful suburb in the lower mainland. he has issues when driving to surrey because the two options he has to get to the hockey shop (over bridge) are log jammed almost constantly. the highway bottle necks from four lanes into two over the bridge on one option and the other requires driving through almost four suburbs with very minimal highway driving. commuting in downtown vancouver and the immediate surrounding areas isn't actually that bad. kevin tung: i'd be interested in having you sharpen my skates on your shiny new blackstone machine, if you'd be so inclined to make yourself available for a little side business.
  12. Im really just looking for decent power and torque, my chev half ton now has fine power but its only 2 door and i only have room for one person. I had a grand marquis and it was also okay but the frame was bad. You are right though, a monte carlo would not make a good daily driver. On the other hand, what would that would fit my criteria? something like a '96 Mustang GT? yeah. first thing i thought was 4.6 or 5.0L mustang.
  13. your problem is that you're hung up on V8. your grandfather and your dad drove them because at the time, everything else was underpowered.
  14. I was at The Hockey Shop yesterday and saw a couple of signs hanging from their ceiling about FBV. I didn't read the sign or ask them about it though so not sure if it said it's coming, already have it or what. It was more of just a glance and I recognized it. Way too busy there yesterday to really look around, you pretty much had to know what you want and get it, too busy to look around and shop. Hopefully they do have it, I want to give it a try. The Hockey Shop does have them, I was getting new skates so i was reading up on the info they had. It was hard to tell because I was in new skates but i loved how everything felt, im not sure if it was from FBV's or not but i was very please with the skates and the sharpening. They started me off with 100/50. I was in Cyclone the other day but forgot to ask, ill probably phone them to see if they have it because they are closer. they dont have it. closest is surrey, since i dont trust anyone at any sportchek. http://www.blackstonesport.com/fbv_where.cfm#BritishColumbia
  15. got a cancelled hotel room in penticton this weekend.... just in time for ironman.
  16. i asked marc's girlfriend to take some pics and email them to me, but i guess she was always behind the play focusing on marc. OH, BURN!
  17. 4WD is good for a lot of things other than just taking off hard at stoplights. A properly dialed in AWD car can be much more neutral than any FWD or RWD car. FWD's tend to understeer, RWD tends to oversteer. AWD just goes. WRX's and STi's have a tendency to understeer slightly from the factory, throw a thicker swaybar in the rear, lower it, and give it some more front camber and it makes the car much, much more neutral in the corners. Much easier to drive fast around a track than a FWD/RWD car. i'm totally aware of that... i touched on the launching capabilities because that's where the conversation was.... i think (it was almost a month ago)
  18. look at his feedback... -1 item didnt exist.
  19. it takes a lot of skill to pull off the double negative. better luck next time. (i kid, i kid)
  20. ^ put it right at the bar. beer and a sharpening, $6
  21. which is just as i suspected. although i dont argue the price, you are paying for something that costs more, it isn't necessarily a premium service, just an alternative service that costs more.
  22. and aren't the machines significantly more expensive?
  23. i'd tell you to pound sand if you told me i was too slow. as soon as you hand over your skates, you're at their mercy. i worked at a hockey shop once upon a time and i had the pleasure of being trained on a blademaster machine by a guy who works for blademaster teaching people how to use the machine. by no means was i an expert, but i got lots of compliments because of my attention to detail. anyways, this dude comes in and basically tells me i suck. i opened the shop door and invited him to sharpen his own skates... dude had NO CLUE what he was doing. moral: unless you're 100% sure you can do better, don't comment on someone's ability.
  24. bought this http://www.geek.com/wp-content/uploads/200...ash-345x400.jpg last night. once i get the gf all trained up, my action shots should be much improved.
