BTW, after you DO get onto the ice again, remember that there are two better ways to play that move:

1) from that side of the ice, do not go back straight to the puck, but aim for a point a little to the right of the puck. At the last second, arc in toward the left, sweep up the puck, and continue at full speed (feet moving!) to behind the net (or if an attacker is coming in from the other side of the net do a quick left turn just before the net. If you are moving laterally at the boards, it makes it a whole lot harder for that forward to lay the hit on you, and if he does you are already moving laterally to him so you can roll out of most of the force. Also you are giving yourself more time to see where to make a good outlet pass. Sometimes when the puck is closer to the net you do it turning the other way, but you do not have the protection of the net then, so faking to go behind the net and then turning the other way might create enought time for you to pull it off.

This works because the guy behind you was not skating faster than you, so if you do not slow down at the puck, he will probably not be able to catch you.

2) go straight back for the puck, pretend to "not notice" the forward steaming in behind you, stop at the puck and act a little dumbfounded, listen very carefully, and just before the forward nails you from behind make a big jump laterally out of the way, have HIM go thru the glass, pick up the puck and skate away laughing. PS, don't do this to a friend, as he will be po'd when you visit him in the hospital.

THAT WAS INSANE!!! Awesome that you still managed to get up after the hit! Hats off to you for that. Very, very impressive. Initially I thought you dropped the gloves because you wanted to go after the guy.

How're the stitches holding up? I've had quite a few on my chin. It sucks getting them there.

or stand at the boards back facing him with your top hand 6 inches down your shaft

That hit was illegal like hell. Guy took at least 5 strides (from counting during the video)

Clearly a charging call.

My back started hurting, just watching the clip

DAMN...That had to hurt lol. Did you play the rest of the game after the stitches?

yup, that was with like 50 sec. left in the game tied 3-3. Doc on our team just put some surgical tape on the cut and then i was fine to play. The line I'm on ended up scoring in OT to win the game. :)

No penalty was called and nothing was done to the kid. In fact, from what I hear, before I even got up, the parents of their team were laughing about the hit.

I just know it was the Ice Castle in the Pittsburgh area, not sure of the exact town or anything.

The thing that pissed me off is that, after watching the video, the kid had absolutely no intention of going to get the puck, he just wanted to level me. Oh well, it was a good D to D pass, right? :P

Now I see why you're always getting hurt. Quick, how many fingers am I holding up?

Yeah, and the funny thing is, I hardly got hurt at all on that one!

Yeah the process was really fast. They had another panel right there. It was funny going to games later on. The new panel of glass was was so much clearer than the others.

stitches are doing fine, i should have them out by wednesday. Doc on our team is the best.

And man i'm thankful my spine is in one piece. I've had a lot of back problems in the past, and it feels fine after that hit.

I probably wouldn't have called it a penalty. There was a race for the puck, Edge got there first and the other guy hit him. No head contact and the hit was from the front. The other guy didn't have to make a play for the puck since Edge had it. A lot of coaches teach that style and most of the time it's within the framework of the rules.

Nasty Hit, my fiance cringed when she watched the video. Are you required to wear neck guards? I hope so, because I'd hate to see a throat cut. Anyhow, glad you held up. And, it's nice to see you kept your cool and helped score the OT winner. I think I would have been waiting for the kid to get back on the ice, just to line him up.
