First, don't take this as a "newbie-whats the best wheel question"

I am curious, what durometer wheels I should be using for this setup.

I skate (competitively) primarily on ice court, but occasionally on sport court. Yes, I know it is partially based on personal preference…that isn’t what I am asking.

I am use to a 72/80 hi-lo, or more recently the 72-76-76-80 setup on my RBK skates. I use the same durometer on all the wheels. There may be a better setup, but this works for me.

Anyway…going to all 76’s AND the sprung chassis, what do you guys (who have skated on this chassis) suggest? All the same durometer, a mix?

Iceburg's eastons;

Thank goodness the Sprungster is married to the Webstress, cause real guys, like Ice and me, fall over and drool when faced with easy computer tech instructions!! She not only threw Ice's new booties up here, she blithely added them and some vintage Sprung history pics to the Sprung site in a new boot pic gallery. And there will be more as soon as SHE can put them up.

It used to be you could tell a guy by his boots. Old school, new school, rich, poor, compulsively clean, salty stink bombs, brand loyal, any old freebies, ice guy, roller guy, etc., etc., etc.

But now, after all the diverse boots I've seen the frames on, I think you can only tell a guy by his frames. It's all mixed up now cause of all the Captain Kirk Pervs out there willing to step up to the Captain's Chair of the Starship Voodootech A6 and go where no man has gone before.

As the good Dr. always says, "I'm an advanced thinking hockey player, Jim, not some boot fetish stereotype in a tutu!

Kieth do you yourself play inline w/ these frames?

Yep. I can't skate on anything else any more. Let me qualify that yep. I only play pickup, and haven't played at all lately, but, thanks to the frames I can still scoot around well enough to be trusted with a good feed for a tip in. Without them people would point and laugh.

I haven't had skates for quite a while, cause mine always end up going to one of our pro players or the traveling test samples. I'm mounting my new Vector 10s today so I can resume playing. They are curtesy of the great state of CCM, thank you very much!!!!

And Chockey, that's a Killer package, mounted perfectly!! They look like Grand Prix racers. I LOVE red-n'-green! Those opposites sure do attract.

I'll give you my honest option, they all look pretty damn awesome. Except one thing bothers me. This may be your preference (larger wheelbase for more traction), but don't the frames seem a bit too big for the boot?

When I was heavy into roller I skated 705s.

JR, would you have a pair of 705 boots in the shop? I'm being tempted. I wear a size 7 Bauer and Tour.

Everybody uses the same frame breakdown. Small frame up to adult 5.5. 6-10 Medium. 10.5-13 Large.

The big difference with the Sprung frame is that though the wheel base is about the same, you're only using the wheelbase of the wheels still on the ground as you push off or cut hard.

So when you push off, instead of putting your feet out at a hard angle to get traction, you can push through the toe and use only the front three or two or one wheel. The front wheel swings up further than the rest for that reason. Bigger snap-back too because of it!

When you're cutting and your weight shifts to the rear, your wheelbase is only as long as the number of wheels still in contact. From four to three to two.

Works like the curve of an ice blade. The smaller contact area and constant level adjusting, also cuts way down on foot, ankle, shin, knee and back stress.

A reg frame does not adjust to the angle of your foot nor to the pressure applied to it. One wheelbase has to fit all.

Hey Sprungster, just ordered a pair off your site, I will be the first one in Australia I think to have them. The photo of your vectors on the site, are they vector 10's as the colour looks different to what I have seen. or is it the new vector x inline boot from the 2007 ccm inline range??. I am not sure what boot to fit them to, I have a pair of s500, vector pro, and pf10 boot available so no matter what they will be sweet. thanks

These are my brand new Vector 10s with a preproduction sample of the new "Ice" A6. Special thanks to CCM for the killer boot!

They're 10 Es, and the mid foot bed is wide enough to feel perfect on my weird feet. The boot is quite stiff, but also very comfortable right out of the box. It has a nice pitch that goes well with the frames toe curl. The extended toe of the new frame supports the sole well into the stronger material.

The Boot/Frame package is very neutral with a very slight pitch to the toe. Very stable, with all four wheels aligned and on the ground. I'm still out yet RE the chrome side panels, but if the boot continues to feel as good as it already does, I'll brag about it. I'm gonna go skate on em tomorrow morning at Planet Hockey in Covina.

I will add that I skated around on my sort of polished concrete patio with just a little grit. When I pushed them, they made the same sound as blades cutting ice. You could hear the difference in

the sound as wheel contact areas contracted and extended. It's a nice sound.

And, all the mount holes hit the sweet spot on the sole, making it one of the easiest and quickest mounts ever for me.

by the way...

any frame on a set of grafs will be the best skate ever. you can't beat grafs. did i mention that grafs were the best?

haha...sorry, i'm a bit biased when it comes to skates.

Here is mine, Swiss 705's with the sprung frames. The skates are so old, but so so comfy. I haven't really had a good skate yet, but the frames felt really good so far. I will be keen to write up a review in a few weeks or so?

I do have a question for you though Keith, Do some of the wheels wear down quicker than others (example does the 2nd wheel wear faster than the 4th from the pressure of turning and stopping with the sprung frame)? Because with the old Tuuk rocker everyone found the 3rd wheel wore down much quicker. If this is the case where you advise us non-sportcourt players to put harder wheels?

I have Graf Envy! Unrequited! One of the guys on one of our favouite teams is mounting his Grafs right now.

I've found that I wear the rear end wheels the most, cause I do tightening cuts and stops leaning into increased rear pressure. It also depends on how you skate.

A llittle harder wheels all around, that are still sticky stuff, will be faster and make the suspension do the work instead of distorting the wheels.
