The fight thread

Again, the NHL fails to enforce one of their own rules. They "warned him" last time, warning him again is pointless if they aren't going to do anything about it.

That is almost more dangerous then taking off your helmet in my opinion, because you are hitting a guy in the face with a plastic guard around your wrist, just use some tape if you are going to fight.

"If it's a staged fight between two superheavyweights that perhaps arranged it a day before the game, I'm not so sure those are the fights that we need to continue to have in the sport," said Kelly. "And if they're the most dangerous fights, we ought to take a good, hard look at those. ... "I'm not advocating elimination of their jobs, I'm talking about the question of safety. If those guys can hold a roster spot and skate on a fourth line and play and engage in fights which arise from the emotion of the game, great. But if they're only there for one purpose, then I think that's at least one issue our competition committee will take a hard look at."

My only problem with that is those 'staged' fights rarely end in the big take down...Laraque v. Ivanans (for example). "Wanna go?" "Sure..." Gloves down, punch til they are tired...tap on the back..."good fight" off to the box.

It's the "emotion of the game" fights that lead to an over zealous take down...or bigger guy fighting a smaller guy and someone gets landed on.

Fedoruk?

Hey if they guy can actually play a regular shift, I'm all for keeping him on the team but having one guy whose job is to fight another guy whose only job is to fight takes away from the game itself and it is only a matter of time before one of them dies on the ice. It's also not like anyone with any skill at all is going to fight Boogard or someone of his ilk.

i think every player knows the risks of dropping the gloves. its tragic that someone died. i don't think they need change anything, even if the outlaw fighting, there still will be fights.

Anybody saw Belak's KO on Brashear? You don't get to see Brash down that often.

Yeah i agree, and he must of landed a great punch because not only did it knock him down it made him leave the game.

Got to give Belak a ton of credit for not only KO'ing one of the long time heavyweight champs of the league, but also for how he reacts afterwards. Just skate away, keeps his mouth shut, no stupid playing it up for the fans. I guess some people on here would have preferred to see him do a victory lap or something because celebrating apparently sells the game and brings in new fans, but good to see there are a few old fashioned guys still left. Always loved Belak.

They talked about this briefly on TSN tonight...but I didn't see all of it. Crosby and Savard getting into into it the other night. Sid wanted to fight him??? and Savard says something about him wearing a visor...so Crosby goes to the bench and has the trainer take the visor off his lid???

Anyone actually see this...did anything come of it?

There was a pic of Crosby visor-less in the Gear Sightings thread. Apparently it was during the first, they didn't go, and Crosby returned for the second with his visor back.

Lucic taking a dirty shot. I'd punch him in the face too, or at least try to. And what about Hartnell biting Letang last night?

IF (which is a big IF knowing the NHL) they find Hartnell guilty of biting Letang, I wonder what he'll get.. 2, maybe 3 game suspension?

There is no view that shows exactly what he did. Because of that, there is no way Colin Campbell will do anything. He only suspends people when he has absolutely no way to justify letting them off the hook.
