3rd Jerseys for 2008-2009

Recommended Posts

Anybody notice how some of the Penguins helmets are dark blue, like the CCM ones, and the Bauer helmets look black? Just thought that looked weird. Personally I think dark blue helmets would look best with those unis

Man the Penguins ones look great in action, it's nice seeing such a different color on the ice. the Stars need to do 3rd jerseys with the late 80's kelly green scheme.

They didn't consult you...

*bummer jersey photo*

Haha dude I'd heard that's what they were going to go with and saw the bummer news today... the Stars did a full 180 from one of what I think was one of the best jerseys in the league (the "star" pattern) to the bland "modern" design at the edge switchover... lame. To make two different ones out of such a bummer design... ugh, almost as genius as trading away first round picks for years in a row. They could've at least kept green as the main color in the dark jersey, especially since half the teams in the NHL are going with the black sweaters. And seriously why does it need to say "Dallas" on the home jerseys... don't get me wrong there's some dumb fans at the arena but man...

Know the story about the white nameplates? They were playing on a nationally-televised game and back in those days they wore names on the whites and no name on back on the orange. NBC wanted fans to see names, so they ripped them off the whites, transferred them onto the oranges for the game, and would switch back and forth til they just kept them on there.

They never should have gone with black jerseys, they should have stayed with the Orange all along. It's a unique color in the league and the teams need their own identity, not 20 teams with black jerseys.

Cool.

I heard another funny 'name on the jerseys' story, although I don't know if it's true. When the League first started putting names on jerseys Ballard was worried program sales would go down if the players were easily identified on the ice...but the League said he had to...so he put blue letters on the blue Leaf jerseys. The League made him change it.

Maybe not true...but plausible knowing Ballard.

a story my grandfather told me when he played for boston in the 50's was that one season they were debating on putting names on the back of jerseys but they decided against it, i asked him why;

"because without names all those goddam frogs look the same from the back, with their slicked hair, that way we dont know who we're gonna take out, and gives those teams a better chance of kepping their best players from getting injured" obviously referring to the rocket, who he didnt like very much.. being from Boston. lol

White or grey pants (like Ohio State wears) would make that awesomely bad.

I agree, but "awesomely bad" as in horrible. I agree that it looks like a practice jersey. To me, it looks like they just threw something together without thinking about it to keep up with the other teams.

They should have just went with the Gretzky-era throwback if they were intent on only using black silver and white.

Agreed. I loved that jersey.
