The caps are deep at center, but not at scoring center. They have backstrom, Fedorov is injured.

After that they have Laich, who's most productive play has been on the wing, and the PP, Steckel and Gordon have limited offensive skills but are sound defensively.

Well Nylander definitely isn't putting the puck on the net with 5 shots in 7 games. (I think it's 5, don't quote me)

But Boudreau is not a nylander fan either. His time is limited compared to other years. Before his injury last season, he was almost a point a game player.

So he can do it, but I think confidence in his game, coming from the coach, is taking it's toll, so while it's being billed by Boudreau as "rest", I think it's a kick in the arse.

I still think the trade winds will blow.

Honestly, if a trade does go down, I think it will be to somewhere like Vancouver, who need scoring help, and they could get him for a low pick. That would free up some cap space, where they could make a move on the blueline, get McLaren in the lineup, who would be an upgrade over Erskine or Juice at the minute. And D is where the caps are losing games

And folks on a B's board a couple of years ago were killing me because I didn't lament the wheeling of Morrison and Jurcina.

I wasn't sure if Theodore's sub-.900 save percentage had the Caps suffering from buyers remorse.

Jurcina was good when he initially came here, but that was on a bad team. Now that the team is better, he is sort of hanging around like a bad rash.

I still think Mo has it in him to be a very solid D-man, he is just having a poor year this year.

I do get the feeling that there is some buyers remorse with Theo too, particularly with Johnny playing well.

However, after Huet got more years and term, had the caps done nothing, there would have been a huge outcry, a damned if you do damned if you don't case.

The Caps definitely had to put something in the net over the summer. I wonder if a deal for Khabibulin would have been a better move than nabbing Theodore.

Without Theodore they're still $2M short of being able to take on Khabi.

Interesting. I didn't know the Caps were so pressed against the cap. They must be grossly overpaying Brashear. <_<

Nylander for Khabi would almost work and benefit both teams.

EDIT:

Actually it will work with Pothier on long term IR, not sure how long he's out but they only need some of his salary to make a deal like that.

There was talk/whispers/tabloid stuff that a khabi to the devils for something, then nylander to the hawks was being discussed.

Devs could flip khabi at the deadline, as brodeur gets healthy.

Not sure what the caps would get back, seabrook perhaps

I can't imagine Chicago giving up that much for Nylander.

It's being reported as a back/shoulder injury. He left practice early this morning too, but is travelling on the west coast road trip (starting wednesday).

Morissonn is also travelling, and hoping to play wednesday ngiht against the ducks. Semin will likey take the warmups again, see how he is, and go from there.

Fedorov is still limping quite heavily, but is also going on the road trip, hoping he will be good to go at some stage of the swing.

That's all I know for now, but they have one more day of practice here in DC tomorrow before flying out.

Are there a bunch of DC guys on here? I moved to Arlington about 5 months ago and am right near the Capitals practice center... Been a few times, it's nice!

I'm in springfield, about 10/15 minutes from Kettler

Awesome. Maybe I'll unknowingly see some of the guys around here at a pickup.

I just started playing last week though. I haven't paid attention to hockey since the mid-90s when I rooted for the 'wings. Fedorov was my favorite player, and now I find out he's in DC along with me. For once I'll get to realign my loyalties and root for the home team  ;)

Where do you play? Is it just pickup or stick and shoot or are you on a team?

Not on a team yet, though I'm hoping to find one to join for next season. I wasn't kidding when I said I just got into it; my first time on the ice was Wednesday. I'm the fresh meat in fresh gear who stops by running into the boards and/or other people

I'm taking the intro-to-hockey class out in Ashburn, and intend to hit the pickups there at least once a week. I'll do stick and shoots when possible, but I haven't seen many listed. Since I live in Arlington I'll checkout the activities at Kettler when possible as well, but they seem to have tons of league activity and not as much open ice.
