I wouldnt like the pronger deal if it was for just Varlamov. I feel like he is the real key the the organizations future and the reason theo was signed for just 2 years. What i wanted from the deadline was montador, but oh well.

Agreed and same with Alzner. The one good player I was willing to give up was Flash + a prospect (not Osala, Carlson, Alzner, Bourque or the goalies).

Not only would they have had to move those young players, they would have had to move someone else to make cap room for Pronger's contract.

If the Caps wanted to go with a big name d-man then Bouwmeester would have been a better deal to work out. Still slightly cheap in terms of money this year. He would still have cost a bit in terms of what the Caps would have to have given up but he would have been easier to work under the cap.

I think it all goes back to Nylander either A. refusing to waive his NTC or B. the Caps being unable to find a buyer for Nylander. Id like to see a buyout in the summer... Free up some cap room for a centre who A. fits the system and B. a Dman who can play D.

No, it goes back to giving him the NMC in the first place. You can't fault the guy for not waiving the NMC, the team gave him that power.

Well yea, the contract was good at the time, but hindsight is always 20-20. While agree with you in never faulting a player for not waiving his NTC, it would have made me pretty happy if he did.

blaaaah. missed the game tonight. Sucks that they lost (again) But boy o boy Semin has been crazy good recently. Sucks that he had some injury problems problems earlier in the season or he would be right at the top ( not necessarily #1, don't flip out people) of the points and goal race.

No Ovechkin playing tonight.

Whoa anyone watching? Weirdest review of a goal/strangest take back of a goal call. Wow.

Awful call. Goaltender interference is a penalty. I'm glad they overturned the goal because Blake just ran into Theo (he did it twice, during their second goal also that wasn't disallowed), but they should've also assessed him 2 minutes for the penalty.

Not that the Caps deserved that game. They had 30+ shots but they were soft. No one would go into the slot or try to stand in front of the net.

As far as Nyles I pray to god he leaves this summer. It is his right to not waive his NTC but he should at least look like hes trying out there.

Last night's game was a huge example of him just taking another night off because for whatever reason hes unhappy.

They didn't originally call a penalty on Blake for Goalie Interference....so there is no way he would be assessed a minor penalty during/after the review of the goal. Coincidental contact is all they could give us, and we should be happy we got that, considering by all counts on the ice "goal" was called.

Yeah it was just pretty blatant and they didn't call anything. The worse part is Schultz, the new whipping boy, did nothing to make any forwards pay for running into Theo.

When the Caps didn't try to crash the nets and play gritty without Ovechkin, and not score in the 1st I knew it was going to be a long game.

John Erskine and Mike Green were on the ice for that goal....

I was referencing the second goal when Blake ran Theo again and I believe Schultzy was on the ice.

But when in doubt I have a reserve of I hate Schultz plays I can pull from:

Falling down on the blue line when air pushed him over leading to the break away.

Poor Outlet passes in the 1st and 2nd leading to quality scoring chances.

I know its easy to rail on Schultz but he makes it easy too with his poor play. How he hasn't at least been benched one game this season is beyond me.

you know everyones talking about getting rid of nylander which would be good but what about morrisonn who i think has been awful lately i mean at least send him down and bring up helmer who i think would be a great addition to the line up he was great when i saw them play the islanders earlier in the season

Totally agree on that! Morrisonn has looked bad the last few games. But, the entire defense has looked terrible the last week! I'm glad tomorrow is their last home game before the road trip. I think playing away from home will help them focus a bit better.

Oh, and I saw Ovechkin skate this morning. He looked fine; didn't seem to show any tenderness in the foot. I left at about 11, but he took part in all the drills up to that point and skated hard throughout. He should be playing tomorrow, which is great b/c I have tickets

Yeah, Schultz was on the ice for the second goal. The GI though wasn't nearly as obvious as Blake's first infraction though. I'm not too happy with Mo or Greenie either defensively, of late at least. Jurcina and Erskine are finding their mean streaks a bit though, good news for all involved with the Caps.

3-0-1 against hated rivals. 7 of a possible 8 points in a season series. I'll take it.

Good effort but the Pens had the momentum and we're able to hold on to their lead i the third.

Caps gave a good B effort today and sometimes that gets you the win but you could tell the Pens just wanted it a little bit more.

What an atmosphere though ... Caps better shape up though so we can really feel that playoff atmosphere this year.

Glad to see Crosby just playing and letting his game do the talking.

Watching other teams trade deadline additions provide dividends either on the ice or in the lockeroom makes me wonder if this was one big mistake that could backfire on the Caps later.

How terrible did Green play today! I don't know how many time he thought he was playing RW tonight. Then when he got caught in offensive zone and the Pens were in transition, I saw him coasting back into the Caps zone rather than trying to get back into position. Green's pathetic attempt at a poke check at the puck set up Guerin's goal in the second. He's better than that, I just don't know what's been up with him the last few games.

I really think the Caps' decision not to make a move to get a d-man is really going to hurt them. I know it's easier said than done, but Guerin's addition to the Pens has clearly made them a better playoff team. The pens were lacking a big body and Wash couldn't handle his size the entire game; hence his 3 points. Until the Caps get a solid defenseman, I don't see them winning the East

I thought Theo made some pretty good saves in the First; but that toe-pull goal he let up was a bit weak. I couldn't fault him on Crosby's first goal or the Shoot-out goal (that was a pure snipe)

i do have to say i enjoyed this game for the simple reason that everyone just played the game. ovechkin wasn't trying to take off malkins head anymore - he wasnt yapping back and forth with crosby - he just played his game and did what he does best.
