Here is a pic of me warming up at the pond hockey tournament last year. It was early and COLD! We ended up taking second place.

The championship game was our 5th game of the day.

The latest and greatest:

brokennose.jpg

Broken nose in a fight.

You should see the other guy's hands, though.

Funny pic... more power to you for getting a few laughs out of it. Hope you heal up quickly!

Thattaboy. How tough is fighting in juniors? Like NHL punch, duck, and twist or no strategy except throw fists?

Honestly, if it weren't for the broken nose, I would have to give myself the decision on this particular bout. He got one lucky clean shot in before I could tie up which was the one that did the damage, but I landed 7 or 8 clean ones. He got stitches on his eyebrow where I split him open. My knuckles hurt worse the next morning than my nose. The part that sucked was getting it broken back into place.

ndlancer: Depends on who you fight in this league. There are definitely some guys who know how to throw, this one was more Rock'em Sock'em Robots.

There is generally a bit more emotion involved when you're talking about fighting in Junior hockey. You're USUALLY dealing with two (or more) guys who are pissed and want to make the guy who they're squaring off with look like our buddy Liter...as opposed to two guys who are only dropping the gloves because that's what they are being paid to do (although, depending on the league, there are usually 1-2 guys on a roster who are there simply for their abilities to provide such services).

In my experience in Junior hockey and having watched/spoken with enough of the pros, I would say that guys generally play a little less "defense" in tilts at the Junior level - usually quite a few punches thrown...not necessarily a lot of them connecting, though. By the time guys reach The Show, there is usually a little more clutching and grabbing and waiting for an opening simply because your opponent is much more likely to hurt you if you make a mistake.

I'm certainly not an authority on the matter, though - I rarely did very well when I dropped the gloves. <_<
