2009-2010 Gear Sightings

Recommended Posts

no really NEW gear sighting, but Eric Staal sporting the 5100/9500 lid with what appears to be a new Bauer/Itech style shield. Looks like an Oakley Pro-Straight with more of an aviator curve

Are they allowed to wear whatever gloves they want, or is there gonna be one brand like the Swiss for example, who all use Bauer gloves at international competition

i think individual sponsorship obligations overrule team ones...

they are.

They're there to remind players not to hit them from behind, most if not all teams ranging from youth to pro in canada seem to have them on their jerseys. Some international teams have the stop sign shape, but rather than stop written in it, it says "respect".

I have to wonder if that actually make any difference, but to each their own

5100. Dual layer VN in there.

Interesting that Hockey Canada uses taped on paper nameplates though.

I don't think they are paper nameplates. They look to be heat sealed letters on "drill" which is basically a flat finish twill.

Could be, but if they were using a nicer material I would expect a better method then taping them on, I would expect at lest velcro.

I'm assuming they are held on with Velcro. We did this in Juniors. Switching around lines, players change lines, players switch jerseys, players change name tags... I guess it seemed obvious to me, but I have been wrong once or twice. ;)

yeah, you're right it looks like Velcro... but why would they be switching name bars?

maybe the folks behind the scenes didn't have time to apply the names the regular way and they threw them on there for media purposes.

They were using the jerseys from the World junior team camp hence why the name bars were taped on and why players weren't using their normal numbers IE: crosby was wearing 37 instead of 87. They will have their regular jerseys in time for the orientation scrimmages.
