The next offering I've heard scuttlebutt about will be the 11K and it will be a much lighter offering than past Reebok skates and while it won't overtake the Bauer stranglehold, it will be a skate to compete with Bauer.

Everything competes with Bauer. They just lose.

True, but the word is that this skate will actually be able to compete whereas others could not.

I hope so. I know a few people who are getting the RBKs for free and won't wear them. A few others who had their skates fall apart within a few weeks.

To try and put out a "Bauer killer" RBK is looking at a massive overhaul.

Maybe that is what they have been up to the last few years while the skate line languished.

I'll try and get a good pic of Hedman's skates tonight- they sure looked strange up close, very cobbled together. The cut of the eyelet panel was very different from the retail line.

Nice to see you have noticed the new Bauer presence among NHL goalies. The Itech addition is certainly part of the explanation but Bauer is showing amazing strength in numbers.

RBK has a huge hill to climb to translate their protective and skate product through NHL exposure to sell through at the retail level.

I personally think Reebok should just go away, same way Nike did. I used to love CCM equipment, great 4 roll gloves, HT2 helmet, the Supra line (yes i know it is ancient) dominated for so long and the Tacks skate line was popular. Wish they would just go back to the basics.

Well even if RBK went away and they converted all the best of both products into one to compete against Bauer...they'd still lose, handidly.

Having them the way they are as "seperate but equal" companies, they can in a sense have 4 lines or more instead of 2 or 3 (like bauer). It allows them to have the K series sticks, the port series, the U series, and octogun series sticks. A little something different for everyone. Bauer on the other hand has two, vapors and supremes. If you have the U and the K series go against vapor and supremes, they'd get killed. But if you have the 4 of them together, they stand a chance, and atleast in my shop, outsell the vapor and supreme line for sticks. Skates on the other hand.... Bauer dominates all. But with helmets and protective and gloves, the amount of rbk/cccm gear sold is the same as bauer gear sold. together rbk/ccm are as strong as bauer, if you combined them and tried to sell them as just one brand, they wouldn't be as strong as bauer.

Plus RBK/CCM is stronger than Easton and Warrior, so being tied at the top with Bauer is pretty good imo. If they took out RBK and even if they just remarketed everything to CCM, their slaes would drop, and Bauer would be the clear absoulut number one. Anyways, to each his own. But wouldn't be a good business move if they disbanded reebok stuff.

The CCM 4 roll looks really good this year, but as for addressing the supra skate fit and traditional helmet not seen anything to address that yet. In addition, my Supra 410 shoulder pads still look like new, and feel great.

But just to ask a question, why would anyone want a bulky HT2 helmet to come back anyway?

Working for the Bloomington Prairie Thunder here and we had a guy show up to camp with these. Don't know if a close up has been posted or not. They are extremely light and look pretty nice.

Those skates are def. what Malkin was wearing in those training camp shots. They must be test mules though because no company in their right mind would actually release a skate that ugly to market in this day and age, even if they are insanely light. Those things are just plain ugly...

Looks like extra pieces of leather are just glued and riveted on to disguise the design.

If you're talking about the piece that wraps around the heel and tendon guard, I think it's there to hold what looks like a plastic insert in place for reinforcement.

The pics don't really do justice I suppose. They actually look really good on the ice. Those are a little torn up. But the carbon fiber toe and heels look good IMO. I looked over the whole skate and there are no logos at all.

I miss the CCM Supra pants

+1

I wear CCM Supra 520 pants. there's just something about them that fits me perfectly and is the perfect amount of protection. I've tried the new Tacks series and also the 1052's which I wore when my original pair wore out until I found a new pair. I'm always scouring Ebay for new pairs.

That makes sense but I just want Rbk to go away regardless of the business side of it. But I'm a purest.... Black skates, no nike/reebok and no NHL teams south of the mason dixon! I understand that's not gonna happen but I just like the good old days. Anyway back to the new gear!

I agree that the exposed carbon fiber makes it look like an Easton skate.

Thanks for the pics! Nice to finally see it up close.

Kinda looks like something from Mad Max 4: IceDome

Competition is nothing but good for the hockey consumer. The more players in the gear game, the more companies have to continually innovate and improve.
