Why I Hate ModSquad Hockey...

Well my wife just recently found out about my glove collection. She thought the 8 pairs she saw on the work bench in the garage was "the collection". She was going through some storage containers and uncovered the remaining 52 pairs of gloves. She wasn't mad, but couldn't understand my obsession. Oddly she didn't mind the 18 pairs of skates, 13 pairs of helmets, or the 22 sticks scattered all over the garage.

I was starting to feel badly about the stuff that I've started to accumulate... After reading thsi thread I just feel like a wimp with only +/- 20 sticks.

Drewhunz owns that title. The only thing higher then the number of sticks he has is his post count, and even then it's pretty close.

I have to agree that I also hate ModSquad because of its influence on my gear whoring over the last few months. However, I have a pretty obsessive/compulsive personality so I guess I would have to put the blame on myself. But in all honesty, I have to blame the NHL for getting me started. I have amassed a huge collection of sticks over the last couple of years. My current count is as follows.

18 Easton ST sticks

3 Bauer One90 sticks

Not to mention my two pairs of Vapor XXXXs and my two pairs of pants.

Not a good thing I know, but I have been starting to believe that you have to have joy in the little things in life. Some people like buying clothes, some like buying crap for their cars, some buy antiques, etc. etc. Case in point, everyone is into something. And I guess, if you have the money to blow, why not spend it on something you are passionate about.

However, just like a lot of things in life, moderation is key. Maybe one day soon I can seek help from a psychiatrist to discover the underlying causes to my obsessive need to purchase hockey and fishing equipment, but until then, I will continue to tell myself "This is the last time!!!".....only this time I actually mean it!

The OCD thing is my problem I think. I have to buy every stick in at least twos. If I get a pair of gloves in a new color I need to get a helmet and pair of pants to match.

5 pr of gloves, 7 sticks, two sets of protective and 4 pr of skates.

Im not that bad although my parents think I am.

4 pairs of gloves, 3 helmets, 3 pairs of skates with one more on the way, 6 sticks although before my season started I was around 20 or so.

I give all of my old gear to my brother-in-law, who is Korean. In his hockey club in Korea, he's considered a gear whore. I've

given him 3 ice skates (952 Tacks, Vapor XX, One90), 1 inline skate (Nike zoom air accel elite), 3 pairs of gloves, a complete

set of protective, and 5 OPS.

I've also abandoned a complete set of gear w/ 2 Z-bubble sticks at an ex girlfriend's parents' house.

I think photographic evidence is required for every collection! Pics or it didnt happen!

I have 3 sticks (only use one)

one set of protective (plus a spare helmet and old shoulders)

two pairs of skates (only use one set)

And two sets of gloves

Even that would get noticed where I skate. I remember the time I was taping my little brothers stick for him because we were early for hockey and I was bored, and I hear the guy in the office say "You should see this kid in the lobby right now, he brought three sticks to a drop-in. Who does that?"

Like I said two of them were mine and one was my little brothers, but I had to laugh and think, "if only you've seen some of the collections I've seen.

I've only been playing hockey for te past 3 year. I joined MSH not too long ago, and the equipment whoring and noticing of equipment has begun! :o

And I justify a equipment purchase by thinking, "Hey, retail charges way more for this "item" so why not get it at a good deal!"

You guys are equipment whoarders! :lol: Just wondering if you guys even use half of your gear regularly, I just don't see the point. I always just leave my older gear in our locker room for the less fortunate (or cheap asses) to use or have if they want, they always seem to appreciate it and I'd never use the stuff agian once I got new stuff.
