Graf quality- Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just wanted to get your expert opinion some Graf skates I just purchased online. To me, these look like a 5 year old put them together. They were produced in 2008 and are in new condition. Is this typical for Graf?

WTF..... is that elmers glue or white out on that??? Geez....Hope they hold up for you long term.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I don't want them to fall apart 6 months from now. I'm trying to figure out that's just the way Grafs are or if I just got a bad pair and if I should send them back or not.

lol can they even be considered new? :P

That's exactly my thought!

When I was asking about Graf's in a previous thread, someone told me that Graf has major QC problems. Apparently they make a high quality skate when its right, but they have a high percentage of skates that have manufacturing defects or blemishes. That person's advice was to very carefully check out the exact pair of skates you're buying before finalizing the purchase.

Yea, those skates go online.. Do not buy online. No reputable shop will send a player off with a set of skates looking like that.

Those definitely look like seconds. There is always a risk when buying online that someone is selling them as firsts, especially on ebay. I've never opened a box of grafs that look like that.

I've had two pairs of Graf, 735 and G35, and neither looked anything like that. The warpage at the base of the holder is pretty typical, the Cobra holder just seems to do that. But everything else is just whacked. No way I'd keep those. In particular, the blade screw heads being stripped like that almost certainly means they are returns or seconds or something. Send 'em back.

I bought these from a shop and was assured they are not seconds (maybe thirds? haha j/k).

take 'em back! take 'em back!

Never experienced bad quality from Graf, but customer service , yes!

I bought grafs knowing about CS issues, but when I had to experience it myself, never again. If you can take them back, look for other brands that fit you.

I've seen custom orders that looked even worse, right out of the box.

Their customer service is only slightly worse than their QC.

these pictures make me feel embarrassed to be a graf user, but also grateful that mine have lasted for 5+ years.

Word. I bought my first pair of Graf 703's 8yrs ago after my Daoust 301's retired. Those 703's were great. Decided to "upgrade" to G3 like 5yrs ago and they were the biggest POS skate ever... had the delam issues and all. Grafs customer service was abyssmal. So since then I've bought another pair of 703 and a pair of 707 making sure to only get the older models with older materials not produced anymore. Both skates have been top notch. Amazing fit and quality workmanship. I even paid 50 bucks more for an older pair than the new model. I will continue to stockpile these old skates so I have enough to last me the rest of my life but will never buy anything from them made say post 2001. What a shame.

Wow that's hard to imagine. I guess it's safe to say their QC is not just bad, it's nonexistent. To allow skates like these out of the factory says a lot about their stance on quality and worksmanship.

I'm working with the shop to get a replacement and will update you guys when everything is complete.

Says a lot about the shop you bought them from as well. They should never of had those skates for sale in their shop... at least not as "new". And then to ship those out to a customer... I'd ask for a full refund and take my business elsewhere.

I'd send them back! What a disgrace! I have Graf 605's and love them to bits. Yes, because you bought them on line it's a hassle to return them but dude....look at those things
