Socks

Recommended Posts

I recently got a pair of socks from Front Row Sports in Canada when I got my new skates. The socks are "ultra thin hockey moisture managment sock" made by Sidlines Sports. They are very thin and seem to stay dry. I wish I could find more of them. I only bought one pair to try and the time. Unforntuneately I don't think Front Row Sports ships to the US.

I wear soccer and football socks. most of my pairs are Nike dri-fit soccer socks but I just recently bought a couple of pairs of Under Armour football socks which are also made of the dri-fit type material. I like them because they're not too thin. I used the CCM Oxysock for awhile but eventually, even with washing the white material was getting nasty looking. I much prefer the blue and black of the soccer socks.

Smart Wool running socks.

Hell, I wont wear anything but smartwool at any time unless they're all in the wash at the same time.

I usually wear UA baseball socks. they aren't as thick as the soccer socks, and they're just compress-y enough.

When I play goalie, I wear the cold gear UA socks. They are the thicker ones. They're just a little bit more comfortable in my goal skates, which are a tad too big.

i dont think we're talking about the same under armour socks. the one's i use are pretty thin. not as thin as the thinees i used to wear, but then again probably just a tad thicker than what most of you guys are used to. my coolees are a whack thicker though.

I was speaking specifically of the UA Hockey Liner socks. I also tried their Soccer Liner socks, which were thinner but very poorly made and annoyingly baggy.

For reference the UA Hockey Liners are about three times the thickness of my Wigwams, and they aren't even the thinnest socks wigwam makes; the Gobi polypropylene liners are basically non-disposable Pear socks.

I was a big fan of the Vapor sock but quickly phased those out for the Drymax V4 sock from Players Bench. Goes up to just below the knee and is perfect thickness. On the bottom of the foot and up the leg is thin and where lace bite might occour, its thicker. Seriously give them a shot. And for $10, it's a deal.

I know roughly nothing about Sideline Sports, but I wear a pair of their shin tights to ref, and they're the most durable brand I've found (between inline and ice, I ref about 700 games a year, so they get plenty of use).

As for socks, I was a Gold Toe guy for a long time, but now I wear Reebok or Nike soccer socks. I prefer the feel of the Nike Dry Fit socks, but the colors bleed like crazy. I have three pairs of red ones, and they turn my feet red every time I wear them, even though they've been washed a dozen times. Very odd.

Thin cotton socks the best!

Totally agree!

I find everything but cotton way too slippery, & the thinner the better if your skates fit correctly.

And the best place to find ultra thin 100% cotton socks:

the Lady's Department at Target.

Seriously.

Just got some of the socks from Pear Sox

Sani is no longer available, but their Ultralite is similar. Ordered one in Sr, and one pair of the PRO in Sr and one in Intermediate.

Today I'm going to try the PRO

Sizing: I am 5'6", 8.5 shoe size.

Sr went midway up my thigh. Too big. Intermediate went right above my knee and fit well on my foot.

EDIT:

Only got to skate for about 10 min. Not enough to really enough to judge.

I just got back from Walmart. They have Stroll skate socks 2 pairs for 12$.

Very thin with elastic arch.

80% Olefin polypropylene

15% Spandex

5% Elastic

They are made in Canada (packaging has awful french translation!)

I wear the super thin ones with the red printing on the bottom of one foot- the calf high ones- though the newest pairs I have come up to the base of my knee. Never had blister problems.

UA socks, go up about half way on my calf. Thicker than some other socks listed. I also have a couple pairs of thinees I don't use...

I have a two pair of the real thin "sanitary" baseball socks, two pair of Easton skate socks, and a three pair of cotton\poly blend Wigwam brand socks from probably ten or more years ago. For the most part, I now prefer to only wear Nike Dri-Fit over the calf baseball compression socks.... I found them 2 pair for $4 this past spring and bought 6 pair (all that they had that fit me or I would have bought more). I like them better than the Easton skate socks I have, slightly thicker but more comfortable for me. Keeping an eye out for a similar deal to stck up on a few more pairs.

Oh, I've never had them bleed color....

I've used the CCM oxysox and the Bauer Vapor socks, both above the calf. I like the fit of the Oxysox the best because they are thin, give your feet better feel, and don't cut off any circulation like the Bauers did with me. It is true that they get a little gross after a while but I think that is true with any white sock.

Hands down vote for the CCM Oxysox.

I use the UnderArmour "all sport" or football socks. They go up to just under my knee. Really the only things on my body that aren't covered up by some type of material are my knees.

They're a little thick, but they're compression, which I like, and they take a pretty good beating.
