Need a new bag

Recommended Posts

Yes, pockets need to be placed one per side. They also catch on doors and rip from what I have seen.

I used to have a wheel back and the skate pockets would run against the asphalt in the parking lot. The bottom side of the skate pockets deteriorated and ended up damaging my skates because now the skate where rubbing against the asphalt.

Really? I've had mine for over three years and havent had any problems, even with multiple plane trips.

They have put holes in every bag I've used. The original MSH bag from MSI, the bags we got from Marcelo and my Mission bag. It isn't the bag as much as the guys tossing them in and out of the planes.

I just picked up a RBK bag from Costco for $60. It's pretty decent in size measuring 39 x 18 x 19. The skate pockets are located at the end with several pockets inside for your keys and wallet. The construction seems very durable but I haven't had the chance to really test it out. This is my first wheel bag and it seems to have a lot of the features that many of you have mentioned...I'd say it's a good bang for the buck.

Bumping and old topic. Anyone use the CCM or the Mission CSX backpacks?

EDIT - Nevermind, ended up getting the Easton S13 pack. The fleece lined helmet pocket sold me.

Skate pockets on the side of a wheel bag cause the bag to tip over very easily.

Yep. I hate that aspect of my EQ3 bag...annoys the crap out of me.

Ditto on the big pockets though I actually really like my S17 bag. I got mine in size small and even though it still is too big for my gear, I find that I really like the mesh panels on 3 sides of the bag plus the removable skate bag feature. The removable skate bag is actually one of the end pockets which can be zippered loose and is big enough for my skates plus a bit of gear. It's been really handy on times when I just want to go ice skating. The real skate pocket is located in front of the bag which does become cumbersome when going through doors. But I could have just as easily kept my skates in the end pocket. I'm now habitually rolling around with the mesh panels open and without the skate bag on top. Unzipping the end pocket (skate bag) reveals a big mesh panel which helps even more with airflow. The skate bag is used to hold other things in my trunk.I should add in too that my gear is small enough and light enough that I also 'wear' my hockey bag as a backpack at times when going up and down stairs. The handles are not padded but they work to get the job done vs. having to lug the bag clumsily with one hand.

Ha! You really get maximum use out of those features. The mesh is definitely nice, but I find the removable bag is too small--only fits my skates (X60s). I'll probably keep using it for a while, but having a bag with better organizational features is very tempting.

I have the s17 wheel bag AND the s17 non-wheel.

I hate the s17 wheeled. The s17 regular bag is decent. Though i never thought of putting my skates in that bag.....hmmm. Might make things interesting now.

And on the GRIT bag, it looks good, but a bit bulky. I was looking at the user guide and i saw this:

i guess that explains why you dont see a lot of beer leaguers using this ....:wink: ....lol

Im not a backback bag kinda guy, so I went out and bought an Easton synergy 700 bag($100), and it was 38"/18"/18"....with wheels.....my god this bag could hold 2 bodies!!Was having trouble getting in the dressing room door with this thing, not to mention my fellow players were laughing at me as I rolled my equipt in the room!!! lol I just went out and bought a $30 34"/17"/14" Winnwell bag(without wheels), and its perfect.....almost got the warrior pro bag, but am glad I went the way I did! Also I am 5 10" 180lbs and the new bag holds everything no problem...I think us adult hockey players only need a 34" bag!??

I have room left even with my shoulder pads in bag!

Cheers!

The bag I use is the same one I've been using since I started playing. It's an Itech 1500 that's 40x18x16 with a small pocket on the end and a large side pocket for skates. I've used it since 2005 for roller and ice and it's held up perfectly with plenty of room for everything and no tears of any kind, not even zipper problems. The best part about this? The bag came free when I bought my first set of gear.

If you can find the Itech 1500, I'd give it a try. Maybe there's an LHS with some of them still kicking around? The only problem is that it's not wheeled.

Looks like this, only mine is all black and silver, not red.

I've been using my Mission BSX backpack since last spring and it's still going strong. Built very well. Wish it was bigger and had a larger front pocket for jerseys/socks but it sure beats lugging around a regular bag (especially up and down narrow stairs and halls).

I got a quick look at a couple of SniperVision bags at a youth tournament about a month ago. They looked pretty solid and possibly similar in design to the Grit bag as they advertize the same drying rack concept. The colors seemed to be a bit flashy but it looked like a solid wheeled bag design.

I got a NikeBauer wheel bag for $25 at Modells on closeout. My first wheelbag. It's plenty big (40" I believe) and the skate pocket is in the front by the handle. I saw a lot of Grit bags in Long Island yesterday. Seems to be popular with the kids.

its all good. I'd bet 75% of the guys I play w/ use wheel bags actually. I had an Easton Synergy, but for $25 you can't pass up that deal man.

Got my S13 backpack last night. When I pulled it out of the box I thought there was no way in hell I was getting everything in there, I was wrong. A full set of adult gear including shoulder pads will fit. Shins were stashed in the legs of my pants to save room and gloves & helmet sat inside the hip protector section. The bag does lack pocket space even though there is a good size one laying against your back as you carry it. Going up and down the basements stairs just got a heck of a lot easier.

You got that right...I swear baggage handlers should be paying us for the damage they cause vs passenger baggage fees. Just about every bag I have has an airport scar or bruise. Typically I use a Vapor XXXX bag for local...but use a wheel bag for travel. I could care less about comments...getting in and out of airports is all that really matters and you just can't beat assisted movement with handles.

My solution is not wheeled either. I got two duffle bages from Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) an outdoors store. One is a mesh marine bag. They are smaller and you have to pack your gear carefully but they are durable, have the best shoulder strap and the mesh bag is what I use if the weather is dry and by leaving it in the back of the truck on the way home the gear starts drying as I drive.

MEC makes the some of the best camping , and outdoor gear around....I have a few sweaters and a coat. Wicked stuff!

I use the RBK wheel back pack. Being only 5'7", my gear fits in the junior model. I often use public transit and have a 15 minute walk from the bus to the arena so the wheels are really welcome. And being a back pack makes it easy to carry on the bus, and to carry it over all the other bags when entering the locker room.

I'm looking at this picture of the Grit bag:

Bag

And I can't see how it would really give your gear a chance to air out - as the shorts seem to be stuffed down the bottom?

Any experiences to prove otherwise?

Would not recommend the easton s13 backpack, only had it for less than two months and one of the strap buckles already broke.

The helmet compartment would be a great idea if they didn't place it on your lower neck. You have to put your pants or shoulders between you and the helmet to stop it from digging into your neck, and even then its not really a permanent solution.

hopefully its still under warranty :(

I've been happy with the Easton S19 bag. Skate pockets, lots of room, plenty of mesh for breathing, and wheels. With 10% off at IW, the price was OK.

I'm also in the market for a new bag and was wondering if anyone has had any thing positive and/or negative to say on the Warrior Pro Bag (http://www.warrior.com/hockey/gear/bags/Warrior+Pro+Bag)?

I wanted to bump the thread because of this question. I can't seem to find the bag anywhere (online or in a store), aside from customizing it direct from Warrior, and I haven't found any very specific feedback on it. Has anyone purchased a retail model or customized one? Any issues with the size? Too big, too small?
