Compare Wax Laces

Recommended Posts

Call me crazy but I buy only the black or white elite wax laces for the reason that they are either lightly waxed or that they actually have no wax at all. I bought blue Elite wax laces and they were so coated in wax that they actually could point straight holding them in the air! Every color was like that except the black and white ones, weirdest thing in the world.

I'm guessing your shop still has first generation Elite waxed laces in white. I didn't mind those but the second release had way too much wax on them, like you describe with the colored versions. I still like Graf/Tex Style best.

I guess so, but the funny/creepy/weird thing I bought the laces from two different stores in two different states and my experiences were the same! The the chances for me haha! Either way I agree the new style has waayyyyy too much wax, I am going to try those Elite ovals next when my laces wear out and begin to shred.

Picked up a pair of those Elite Oval laces and put them on. Will give them a spin tonight. I've been using Graf waxed for three years now. They remind me of the Gorilla laces except a bit wider and softer plus with some wax and less material on the edges. Sharp looking.

I liked regular elite but they got super thin when you pulled on them. I bought a pair of gorilla waxed laces, but they really didnt seem to actually have any wax on them so theyve been sitting in my junk drawer still in the package. I liked the elite pro x7 laces because of their thickness, but they dont seem to come in waxed.

I just started using elite oval laces. LOVE THEM. Just the right amount of wax, nice and thick, work especially well with my RBK lace lock. I really couldnt be happier. They look really sharp, too:

Which brand has the metal ends crimped on? I've had a pair for a year or so and they've worked out great. Now I need a new pair but cant remember what they are. Anyone know?

I don't think you can get them anymore, I heard they were banned in Canada cuz a kid or too got puncture wounds from them...

Did not like the Elite Oval laces. WAY too much wax on them. They don't stand straight out like the regular Elite waxed but when I tightened them mid-game they got wax all over my hands. Also way too grippy for my tastes. I like my Graf laces...toes to mid-foot I pull them snug, pull the heel laces tight, then ankle laces are snug.

Two cents: One guy I talked to brought up a point buy saying that most waxed laced end up turning into cables. So he suggested getting the thicker ones if you can.

I was disappointing with the normal waxed elite laces I had, they didn't seem to have much wax at all. Today I picked up the Elite Oval waxed after reading this thread. For my skate they were great, had a bunch of wax on them and held in place just fine.

I've always been using the basic elite waxed, no complaints so far.

Cheap, durable, well waxed, thinner than traditional hockey laces.

Instead of the amount of wax, I would rather look for the laces able to keep their wax the longest.

Just swapped the standard laces that came on my Vapor X30 to Elite ProLace Waxed. You can definitely feel the wax on them, but I wouldn't consider it an excessive amount. Laces are a bit smaller, so they do give the skate a slightly different look.

Just picked up a pair of Elite Waxed laces to try out. What's up with the tips? There's like nothing to them. Do they last?

Compared to other regular laces I've tried, yes, they do last longer.

Just came from my first skate with the Elite Oval Waxed laces--holy crap. They are very heavily waxed and very thick. If you pull an untied end out, it will stand up straight if you want. They definitely hold nicely and worked well with my lace-locks (on 11ks).

They are way too waxy out of the box for me too, but over time the wax wears out and they get much nicer. I like how grippy they are though, they don't loosen at all during the game, I find I can leave them a bit looser than other laces (snug all over instead of really tight in specific areas) because they just hold so well.

Finally tried the Elite Oval laces today, and I like them better than the laces that came with my One95s. I was concerned they'd be a bit short, but they're fine. I haven't had waxed laces since my first skates, which were total junk, over 40 years ago. I don't have experience with a whole lot of different laces, especially in recent years, but I like the Ovals enough that I think I'll stick with them. It seems I won't be having to tighten skates on the bench any more.

I love elite oval waxed lace! They have the most wax if that is what you are looking for. I hear they will be reducing the amount of wax on them though, not sure when that will be happening though.

I have the elite waxed laces. They have been thru hell and alittle frayed but they are still holding strong. It's time for some new ones tho. Had them for about a year in some really bad skates.

Is there a reason why I can't find wax laces that are solid white? Seems like all the laces have those black dots throughout em. Is that just standard practice?

Refs normally use the all white laces, standard hockey laces typically have the "ticking" in black, blue etc. All white is kind of a specialty item and there is likely minimal demand at your LHS, hence they don't order many/any.
