Base Hockey brings back the Polar Fibre...The Natural

Recommended Posts

I read their description and checked out the product comparison page. I understand they're a new company, but some of those claims are a bit ridiculous.

Wait, Base says they have the best feeling stick out????? I guess that means all the other companies who claim to have the best feeling stick are lying.

Like I said, there always seems to be a group of guys on various boards that constantly wish this grip would make a comeback because of how legendary it supposedly was, but I seem to remember Keith saying that out of all the pros that use Warrior, only a single one still used this option. IMO, seems kind of goofy to separate yourself into an entire other stick line only offered in this single limited option.

I had a chance to play around a bit with the Natural at BASE's offices the other day and the polarfibre finish was quite nice. The stick as a whole had a great look to it with the matte polarfibre/carbon fibre finish. My understanding from what the rep told me was that the Natural was also going to be available in clear, matte and grip finishes. That being said the rep I was speaking with was also trying to prevent a group of kids from dismantling the displays so take that with a grain of salt. Just by playing around with the stick a bit it felt well balanced and relatively light, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try it out on the synthetic rink.

"The Polar Fibre provides unbelievable puck feel and increased durability"

Say what? A sand paper style finish gives unbelievable puck feel you say?!

I had a chance to check out a demo shaft yesterday, colors are nice but this shaft would be the ultimate test on which palm is the most durable.

Love the fact that this stick is square corners and the savoy specials are rounded

I loved the polar-fibre until I used a matte finish, like a ZL and Nexus. Enough grip and it doesnt shred your palms. I do miss the rounded cornered shafts on the old Inno1100's.

Does the savoy special play whippier than the Natural?

The natural may feel whippier than the savoy because its a mid flex stick.

Never had any experience with a polar fibre shaft. It seems like it would wreck palms like no other, is that the case?

What is polar fibre? I am relatively new to playing hockey and have never heard of this. Why is it rough on palms? Myself, I can wear through a set of gloves in a year or two with any type of stick and I tend to use wood or just "normal" composite, whatever that means to you. Anyway, just some information. I am still trying to learn.

I had a chance to shoot the Natural vs the Savoy yesterday on synthetic ice.

Biggest difference I noticed was the flex point. The Natural flexed higher, vs the Savory. I'm more of a snap-wrist shot guy, so the Natural seemed to shoot better. Stiffness seemed fairly close. I'd say the Natural a little more whippy. Feel was hard to tell being on synthetic ice. I really liked the grip of the polar fiber. Hopefully it doesn't wear down the gloves though.

I ordered one in and should get it in a few weeks so we'll see how it goes.

I called them today, wanted to order Natural with lie 4 to try. First, the guy told me he wont give me any deal on shipping to US because it's already low. Second he told me he would not get me any deal on the stick because it's the best stick on the market and it's what it is and already low. Then he was trying to put me into the system and I had to repeat my 6 letter last name 4 times during this process he put me on hold twice then the third time after a 4-5 minute hold - they just hung up on me.

This does really make me want to call them back - I think that I can survive without lie 4 stick from Base....

While I think being hung up on is pretty crappy, you can't fault them for not "giving you a deal" if it means coming off of their stated pricing.
