Lightweight mobile shoulder pads for beer league

Recommended Posts

Got the Bauer classics. They are perfect. I also got the Bauer classic elbow pads. The elbow pads are terrible and slip down my arm with ease. Guess ill have to stick with the bulky Bauer Vapor x40 elbow pads, as they dont slip at all

You guys are fools! Beer league of all places necisitates the most protective equipment you can get. All the yahoos out there who can't skate or turn or stop are dangerous missles. I got steamrolled by one of these and was out 10 months with a concussion. I can't even begin to tell you how many shoulder injuries I've seen as well.

I recently traded in my 5030s for some lower end jofas. Nice cap and a thin plastic insert over the chest.

I've been thinking of taking the plunge on a padded shirt for my beer league, the Mission Thorax Flow. To me, it felt more comfortable than the Reebok 9k that I tried on.

I'm currently using an older pair of CCM that are this same model, but I removed the shoulder caps. This still provides some decent protection, but I want more padding in the gut area, as well as the lower back. These don't go down that far. And of course, I've taken a few redirects right in the gut, as well as a few cross-checks to the lower back. :/ The Thorax Flow has more protection in those areas than my current pads, so what the heck, I'll give it a shot.

current shoulder pads (not my pic, i have removed shoulder caps

Or who can't control their shots...

This is why I wear Bauer light speed pros.. I block a lot of shots from guys who think the higher the shot the better...

I need the chest protection but removed the caps as I play in a no check league

I have the 5030's, they're okay for shinny with your buddies. I went hard into the boards on the weekend, I could have used a little more protection. The CCMs U+ CLs caught my eye.

I have the CCM CL, love the mobility on them and seem to provide great protection as well.

When you can increase the protection exponentially over a 5030 with no loss in mobility or gain in weight, it's a good thing.

Love my CCM U-Fit 05s, not that heavy but when you get steamrolled (which i have been), and go into the wall, it will protect ya. Just don't get in front of a slap shot.

If you can find them (eBay, Craigslist, etc) the iTech SP50 is probably the best shoulder pad for beer league.

It's basically like wearing nothing but enough protection should you take a puck or go into the boards theres something there.

Agree, I have the Itech SP155 and they are very similar. I think this new Bauer Model is an update.

I'd say Sher-wood 5030 all the way.

They're pretty much useless. I wore them for years and they really didn't provide any real protection, they simply met the requirement for wearing something.

5030's must have some "real" protection. Believe it or not you see them in the locker rooms in the NHL

Those guys don't wear them for protection. They wear them because they're the most minimal pads they can get.

By that logic Gretzky's helmet is protective as well.

exactly why i wear supreme classics with the bicep guard removed. I know they offer little to no protection, but my league requires shoulder pads. I think the supremes may offer a little more protection then the 5030's.

Love'em. Replaced some old supra 452's with these a couple of years ago. Just enough but not too much to protect from Mongo on ice

I use the sherwood 9950's and love them, I never used to wear shoulder pads for mens league until i got tripped and slid into the boards. The sherwoods are very mobile and offer decent protection for light contact mens league

I've had the Bauer Nexus 400 shoulders for about two months now, love em. They're about as minimal/low profile as it gets and feel great, and they're only $38US. For beer league/pickup they're about as much as I need.

Amazing. I have the same exact pair. Made some minor tweaks to them and find them to be great.
