I worked next door to an LHS (that didn't carry Nike) in high school when those came out and was told by the shop owner that despite Bauer being a subsidiary of Nike, Nike decided to have some of their shoe designers/engineers come up with those skates rather than use anyone from Bauer. He had a myriad of problems with them but was contractually-bound. Now, the other guys who were part of the initial Nike Hockey lineup, they wore Bauer 1000s with the Swoosh on the heel (Sundin/Stevens et al)The retail skate didn't fare any better.
