Recommended Posts

So I am working on gloves for the future and thought I would get some feedback directly from the customers who actually buy the product.

  1. What are the most important features when buying gloves?
  2. What type of Fabric do you prefer?
  3. What type of finger gussets?
  4. Stretch in the palm?
  5. Ventilation?
  6. Colors or design?
  7. What is your target price you like to pay?
  8. Are there features you think are missing in gloves?
  9. Fit? Loose or tight fight?
  10. Favorite gloves you have worn

I appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.

1. Fit, protective but non-restricting cuff/guard (I liked the adjustable cuff on the S19)

2. fabric: Nylon for breathability, drying time

3. gussets: any / don't care

4. strecht: No stretch

5. ventilation: Not as important for ice as roller (since you posted @ice equipment)

6. colors/design: any / don't care

7. 80-100€ (~ 100-130 USD)

8. Triple indexed fingers all the way (well, maybe not pinky...)

9. Tight

10. Bauer Vapor X:60, Warrior AX2 / Luxe

For me, fit, durability, and ventilation are important. I prefer 4-roll gloves with a Tufftek like material and mesh gussets. I like the palms to have some give to them. As a beer-leaguer, I'd be reluctant to pay over 125-130 a pair. My favorites so far have been Bauer Pro 4-Rolls, although I am working on breaking in some PFFs that may take over my top spot.

1. Fit and palm materials

2. I don't care as long as it is durable

3. Seamless is possible, mesh if it isn't

4. I'm not against it

5. A little would be nice

6. I'm old, so fairly mild

7. $99 -$149 is where I usually draw the line

8. Quality palms

9. Somewhere between the two. Not so loose that they are sloppy and not so tight that they restrict movement.

10. Eagle CP94 w/goat palm and split fingers, the only thing missing was the seamless gusset

1. Mobility of fingers and cuff; how the fingers/backrolls are cut and segmented to work with how my hands and knuckles are shaped

2. Nylon based, perhaps with synth leather or carbon weaves in low-wear areas for aesthetical purposes.

I use the same gloves for ice and roller. I don't have sweaty palms so even in hot rinks my hands don't feel hot or warm, I also pop out the lining for it to dry and I don't have a problem with it. But I will say we know you focus on roller (probably posting on the ice to get a bigger survey size) but I will post what I like as well as what may be more roller appropriate for me and my friends.

1) Feel, not stick feel persay but how the glove feels on my hands. This includes fit and mobility. Protection is an extremely close second but almost all of the gloves protect well now at days.

2) I have custom warriors with all carbon. I play roller 90% of the time so the tufftek water repealing doesn't apply to me as well as getting cut so much. It's more about it rubbing hard or getting roughed up on plays. Imho if the carbon isn't extreme colors it looks nice.

3) micronash? It's what my palms are and I never had trouble with them wearing or getting holes in them, they're always soft for me as well. It's also easy to take care of for the masses.

4) not for me

5) never had a problem. Between games I pop out the liner like I said and it dries nice and feels nice. Hands never feel hot as they are. I know a lot of guys love the mesh.

6)start with the usual suspects black/white navy/white red/white navy/gold. Then maybe do some black/silver or some other things.

7) you'll get a lot more business keeping your top glove in that $100-150 sweet spot. If you offer custom I would expect to pay more but if you have inexpensive up charge for the custom option people will love that.

8) I know people love some of the features on the newer bauers but for me my franchises serve me well. I honestly like the plastic inserts though companies seem to be moving away from that. I went custom in part for this

9) my first 2 gloves have been tapered. Mission warp zero (4 fingers? Why?) And warrior king pins. I thought when looking for new gloves I would love the luxe but I went between them and the franchises. The franchise's are said to be wider and I was kind of against the 4 rolls but they fit soooo well and felt good in all ways. I was able to go down a size bc the wider fit finally fit my wider hand. So right now that's the fit I like. My fingers don't get stuck wrapped around the stick anymore or have trouble getting them back on after a corner battle. Really liking it.

10) my custom warrior franchises.

One thought I'm having is I know once again for the roller focus and with people moving away from the hard plastics maybe loom at how the mission inhaler helmet has holes through the hard foams. It might improve ventilation

I'll also put some pics of my current gloves, had them for about 2 years so you can see how they wear and I can point out down things.

The first thing I look for when trying on a pair of gloves is wrist mobility. If a glove hinders my ability to flex and extend my wrist, I would not buy the gloves no matter how comfortable they are

  1. What are the most important features when buying gloves? Fit is #1. Is it comfortable while holding a stick in my hands.

What type of Fabric do you prefer? Tufftek

What type of finger gussets? Prefer mesh, but I dont know of any retail gloves that have them.

Stretch in the palm? Never noticed if gloves have stretchy palms one way or another.

Ventilation? Would be nice, but I don't notice it (or maybe have never had gloves with good ventilation)

Colors or design? Team colors. Currently all black. Last team was black/white/red.

What is your target price you like to pay? $100-150

Are there features you think are missing in gloves? More ventilation if possible, I guess.

Fit? Loose or tight fight? Tight. Bauer Supreme fit or similar.

Favorite gloves you have worn 2012 Warrior Koncept

1. Fit and Aesthetics. It needs to be an extension of my hands and look good while doing so.

2. Tufftek preferably but I'm not picky when it comes to material.

3. Whatever keeps my fingers the warmest (at least in regards to ice hockey).

4. Never cared for it but not opposed to the feature if the glove works for me.

5. I'll probably be in the minority but I'm not big on ventilation because my hands freeze easily. With inline though, the more the better.

6. Whatever matches the team uniform(s). If not, 'black-out' theme.

7. Anything < $150.

8. None that comes to mind.

9. I'd prefer a tighter fit but I've had both types.

10. Bauer Pro 4-Roll...Eagle Odyssey X6.

This might be a stupid question, but what gloves have a seamless gusset?

1. Fit and palm material

2. Some sort of breathable but durable nylon. No leather/portofino type material, I don't care for the look and it makes the gloves heavier and hotter.

3. Mesh

4. No stretch material in palm.

5. The more ventilation, the better.

6. Simple, solid colors with simple designs.

7. Around $100

8. Flexible thumbs

9. Loose fit

10. Bauer 4 roll pros

  1. What are the most important features when buying gloves? Same as all equipment- (in no particular order)- lightweightness, durability, protection, mobility

What type of Fabric do you prefer? Whatever stays dry the best

What type of finger gussets? I do not even know the options

Stretch in the palm? Not familiar with advantages/disadvantages of such a measure

Ventilation? Yes please!! I sweat like a faucet, so anything to slow this down and speed up moisture wicking is most ideal

Colors or design? Does not really matter.

What is your target price you like to pay? $100-150 would be most ideal for top of the line, light, protective, comfortable, durable gloves

Are there features you think are missing in gloves? Palms that are durable but also offer nice feel for stick and puck

Fit? Loose or tight fight? Tapered- tight in hand, opening up in cuff, like Vapors

Favorite gloves you have worn I just am getting back into hockey and using the Vapor APXs. Sort of wishing I had maybe gone with the CCM CL 500 simply because they are 10% lighter (270g vs 300g). My next pair will be 270g or less for certain. The palms in the APX seemed alot more durable, and that was the basis of why I went with the APX.

  1. What are the most important features when buying gloves?- Fit and Feel

What type of Fabric do you prefer?-tufftek

What type of finger gussets? no preference

Stretch in the palm? I like a little stretch

Ventilation? Must. I am also a sweat factory. I am guessing your product will be roller geared, so even more important.

Colors or design? Basic. I play on several teams so opt usually for black. I like less flash for less cash

What is your target price you like to pay? Depends. Its all cost benefit for me. I could pay 200 for features if its worth it, but bought my last pair on a sweet deal around 75

Are there features you think are missing in gloves? for the longest time I thought flexible thumbs were silly until I bought a pair with them.

Fit? Loose or tight fight? Vapor fit. Buisness up front, party in the back

Favorite gloves you have worn- Worn? APX. game used? my vapor pro series gloves.

  1. What are the most important features when buying gloves? Flexible cuff that allows me to catch passes near my skates without the cuff restricting the bend in my wrist.

What type of Fabric do you prefer? Lightweight, but reasonably durable.

What type of finger gussets? Non-flexible. I want the padding to stay with my fingers, not stretch away.

Stretch in the palm? In the heel of the palm only, like the Bauer APX.

Ventilation? Gloves are going to get soaked anyways. Water resistant padding a must.

Colors or design? Not flashy.

What is your target price you like to pay? $100-$150

Are there features you think are missing in gloves? Someone needs to engineer a better cuff roll, perhaps a segmented cuff that hinges allowing 100% wrist movement.

Fit? Loose or tight fight? Tight in the hand. Loose in the wrist.

Favorite gloves you have worn? Bauer APX.

TPS HGT, R8, R10...pinky and index fingers.

Even my R2 Response Lite (HGT era) gloves had them. Those were a great glove for $69 or something like that at the time

What's with the wrist/cuff roll on gloves anyways? Is is a throwback to the days when players would slash the crap out of each other while the Refs let it go? All the cuff roll serves me today is to interfere with my wrist movement. Get rid of it and invent something that protects the wrist joint while still allowing freedom of movement!

What kind of moves are you making? I hear people say things like that all the time when trying on gloves but I have never had a glove interfere with any movement I've ever tried to make on the ice.

  1. What are the most important features when buying gloves? Fit and durability. I operate under the assumption that mid to higher tiered gloves have adequate protection.

What type of Fabric do you prefer? Light and breathable. I don't care what specifically.

What type of finger gussets? I'm not picky

Stretch in the palm? I can take it or leave it

Ventilation? If practical, then yes. If it makes the glove look really complicated, then I'd probably pass.

Colors or design? I prefer simple and mostly black, but I'm not picky and the padding design as long as it works.

What is your target price you like to pay? $100ish

Are there features you think are missing in gloves? Not so much. (Does anyone make a "tighter" fitting glove with the 4 roll design?)

Fit? Loose or tight fight? Tighter

Favorite gloves you have worn? NB Supreme 0ne90

  2. What type of Fabric do you prefer? nylon

What type of finger gussets? either stretch or mesh

Colors or design? I'm open to both wild and simple looking designs as long as they fit and perform well. As for colour - either black or something that matches one of my teams jerseys.

Fit? Loose or tight fight? Tight in the fingers and backroll opening up slightly in the cuff area.
