The reason being, once the boots’ foams pack in a bit, a rebake can reset the snugness of the boot, as it can get a bit roomy after some use. Yeah. I’m probably making a big deal out of nothing. It’s not huge weight. It’s 98kg down to around 85 where I should be about. So probably very little difference at the moment anyway. but hey! I’m a self confessed worrier! JD17 2 Report post Posted December 23, 2020 45 minutes ago, Lihp8270 said: Bauer said it selected the fit based on ankle wrap, and and width. Regardless of instep height and depth. We don’t really get “box” stores in the UK. Being a fairly niche sport, hockey stores are specialist stores. unfortunately not all are as knowledgeable as others. im most certainly going to go all out with tries. After top end supremes, tacks, vapors, and making do. It would have been cheaper to go custom at the start. Just trying to ease my anxiety of £900 without trying them, which is probably normal. I see this line of reasoning from bauer. The instep height and depth can be corrected for with different tounge and footbed options, it is really hard to alter the structure of the length or width of the boot. I have almost the opposite foot as you, wide forefoot, narrow heel, short heel pocket, and low instep, I am curious what bauer would scan me for knowing you got a fit 1 suggestion. After a bodged fitting between Bauer’s scan, and the local shop being adamant it’s correct (I take some blame for not trusting my own judgement). im doing a 300 mile round trip to a recommended store this time. but the responses from the other store and Bauer were that. Yeah the scan has put you in the wrong boot but tough luck. this is the sizing that is forcing me custom 🙂 https://my.volumental.com/en/bauer_custom/e1d7dd6c-6857-4b51-a2d6-855d939caeb9/?utm_medium=myvemail Looking at the scan I agree you have a very unique foot type/shape. I dont think CCM or Bauer retail or even customs would work for you. I would absolutely recommend a TRUE custom for your foot.

Even Bauer admitted that my foot isn’t going to go into a retail boot. I'm not trying to talk you out of customs but have you considered fixing your volume issues with eyelet extenders? If the boot fits you ok everywhere else then extenders cure your volume issues. I have a similar shaped foot, high arch and too much volume for any boot that fit me ok everywhere else. When I was lacing up, extenders fixed the volume issue. Edited December 23, 2020 by Vet88

When I was lacing up, extenders fixed the volume issue. It’s a reasonable thing to ask. The best fit width and heel wise etc are the vapor fit1 I have now. The issue is that I’m over the facing on nearly every eyelet. So I’d need extenders on every one of them. The thinking at the store with the fitter was that the thick tongue of the 2x pro would prevent lace bite and distribute the pressure. Except it didn’t. Except it didn’t. If the volume is marginal, a thick tongue makes it worse. You have to get the pressure OFF the tendons, not keep pressure on them. Possibly a thinner tongue (to give you space in the forefoot area) and eyelet extenders at the top (to remove any lace bite issues) would be a mix I would consider. The reason why I try to get skaters to go this way versus custom means once they find the right mix, they can apply it to any retail skate in the market. this means their options for skates, fit and price point are much greater. Lihp8270 5 Report post Posted December 23, 2020 this is how little volume I have if I am to get a reasonable heel. This also doesn’t account for the fact that I’m still smaller than a D width
IPv6Freely 2093 Report post Posted December 24, 2020 This is my scan. I still can't figure out why retail skates hurt my foot so much. https://my.volumental.com/en/bauer_custom_beta/4a94fb5d-3dd9-49ef-8b8d-507f6e16a4ed/?utm_medium=myvemail I've tried all three of Bauer's lines, Graf, Easton (non-Mako), and Reebok. The only thing that didn't hurt my feet was the Mako. It was significant enough that the first game (I was a beginner in the wrong division) I wore them my teammates asked if I had taken skating lessons. When I switched to goalie I didn't feel like going through that whole nightmare again so after I had some cheap Bauer Reactors just to ensure I actually enjoyed playing goalie, I went straight for custom VH. The difference between those and the Mako was as significant as the Mako to everything I had before then. I was going to try the new CCMs because of the 90 day guarantee, but then I broke my hand so I returned them. I may try again at some point.

I can't believe a fitter recommended you try a thicker felt tongue, ffs. One look at that and I agree customs would be your best bet, just make sure that whomever you go to knows their stuff because you need a custom facing and a narrower boot so the measurements need to be spot on. I'd recommend you take manual measurements and then compare them with the scan and measurement data before it gets sent off to True. If you aren't happy with what they have produced, make them start again and don't let them send it until YOU think it is right.

I recommend wearing thinner socks or sock liners, and bake the skates wearing those thinner socks. You weren't wearing those socks when your feet were scanned, right?

Furyan 1 Report post Posted January 6, 2021 Guys, I have a short question regarding steel for shift holder Sorry in advance but it is too tough for me to read 244 pages of the current thread -) I've just ordered a new pair of custom Trues, but the LHS guy says me that all the new customs now are coming with new shift steel by true like stainless and coated (onyx) instead of step blades He also promise me to contact with true and ask them to mount old step steel if it is still possible So the question is: do you like a new true shift steel? Worth is? Or it is better to push my LHS and True to provide old Step blades?

You can ask the shop to mount those instead. I got the tuuk holders for mine w the last available step compatable with the tuuk holders so you can go that route if you can find bauer compatable step or get the ls steel. Try some Pearsox Ultralites. They are about the thinnest I have found. You can get them from Epic Sports for like $2-3 a pair. Just watch the sizing, I am 6'3" with an 11.5 shoe and I can wear either youth or intermediates. Very cheap experiment. My foot looks similar to yours, sticking out right at those 3-6 eyelets, maybe a little less extreme though.
Lihp8270 5 Report post Posted January 25, 2021 Sooooo I got the news today that my customs have arrived in store! That’s 4 weeks from when they received the order to ship them over to the UK. Pretty impressive. Only downside is that our current lockdown restrictions mean I am unable to get them.
jgold47 12 Report post Posted January 26, 2021 (edited) Are there any suggestions for replacement insole upgrades? I baked my skates with speed plates because I had such good luck with them on all of my other skates, but they didnt really fit that great/work that well with the trues. I switched back to the red + blue insoles, and they're about 85-90% comfy, but I need to do a slightly rebake to fix a hot spot that showed up when I switched. Before I do that, I wanted to see if there were any suggestions for good 'upgraded' insoles that work well with True's so I can bake them with those. I'm not particluarly intersted in superfeet, never had much luck with them from a comfort perspective. I have my 2 different Graf sidas (not the full custom ones) insoles from my last pair of Graf's that I never used that I could try too. I'm mostly coaching these days, so just something a little more 'comfortable' if that makes sense. And I'm not opposed to just staying stock if thats the reccomendation. These are for retail Trues (with the nut and bolt holder) EDIT - here are the two Graf insoles I have Hockey Plus | Best Pricing on Graf Hockey Skate Premium Insoles (hockeyplusinc.com) Insole Foot Beds - Graf (grafhockey.com) Edited January 26, 2021 by jgold47
Giltis 116 Report post Posted January 26, 2021 YMMV of course, but Graf Sidas insoles are the best that has worked for me. https://www.hockeyvancouver.ca/products/graf-step-in-footbed-insoles I don't use them in my True skates, but I use them in Goalie skates and back up pairs. gosinger 122 Report post Posted January 26, 2021 I still run Superfeet Yellow in all my VH/True skates, both custom and retail TF9. I simply love the feel and stability. The Speed-Plates 1.0 were great from a performance perspective, but too uncomfortable in the Trues (perfectly fine in the 1X & other Bauers - in the True they felt too stiff for 90+ minutes of usage).

Everyone has different needs though. For example, some players need more arch support than others, some need a cushioned heel, etc. Graf and Superfeet seem to be the two most popular standard retail footbeds for hockey players. Did you try the Graf ones at all in your trues? Just concerned about stiffness and stability to avoid the issues I had with the speedplate 1.0's. I do have a pair of 2.0's I could never use becuase of the depth change they created. I could try baking them.

I could try baking them. I have literally tried every retail insole, even non-hockey insoles. My main needs are depth, the insole cant be too short or too tall as I hate having too much negative space, my feet are also very sensitive to lace bite and since I have custom TRUE skates there is very little room to play with. I have a decently high arch and most insoles provide not enough support. The way my arch is defined I also need more support in front of the arch and many retail insoles don't really provide such. Hence why I ended up with the Speed Plate insoles. Since I tend to sit low in my stance when skating hard and use a flat hollow, 1 1/8. The most important thing for me was to not have an insole that adjusts my pitch or feels overly soft as that deadens my feel of ice contact with the steel. Those shouldn't change your volume since they're made for the skate anyway.
