Man, glad you guys don't offer restaurant recommendations. The OP is obviously frustrated with True. He was promised and paid for a product and service he did not receive. When he pointed it out, their response was in his opinion unsatisfactory. So why the hell would he continue to do business with them.... I wouldn't.

OP already paid for the True skates. Why not continue to try and get the issue resolved, especially on a skate that is known to work for his son? It sounds like the LHS needs to step up and do their part to resolve the remake issue.

Played way more hockey than expected this past weekend, made it to the championship game and got silver. Good times, great team, great fun.

I ended up getting a pair of Bauer RS inline skates - size 9 - for $150. I tried them out last night and they feel pretty good. I've only roller bladed a few time. It's a bit different then ice, isn't it? My goal this summer is to build up my strength & endurance, work on my backwards crossovers, etc. Hopefully I'll be better ice skater come this fall when the old man leagues start up.

Spear constructions from CCM are similar to Bauer’s G3 which is basically a variable low-mid kick. The closest retail option to that currently are the True sticks (both X and A series minus the HT variant). Next closest I would say is the JetSpeed.

Just asking for details. Others have had issues with Trues and it seems like they worked with their LHS and True and in many cases got things figured out. "I called True and all I got were these lousy insoles, end of story" sounds like there should be more to it.

Don’t worry about the lie numbers posted on the sticks. From brand to brand the equivalent patterns are about the same. I’d put them in the following order from highest to lowest assuming you’re running with the most common off the shelf patterns. P92/W03 = 5.75/6ish, full rocker and the toe points upward for many P88/W88 = 5.25/5.5ish, heel rocker and flatter through the toe P28/W28 = 5.25ish, huge heel and toe rocker. As a beginner I’d avoid it. PM9/W01 = 5, relatively flat bottom vs the others. Will be much less forgiving but probably the best beginner training tool of the four options. Stay away from hipster patterns like P106, P91, P14, P08 and P46 as trying to find them isn’t fun.

But what did Pure say when you brought up the issue with them? Did they tell you contact True directly? Did they say they can't help or weren't willing to help?

My guess is you could be dealing with formality in True saying “try to add the red insole.” That’s probably step one. If after trying the red insole they still don’t fit, then maybe they consider a remake. It’s not uncommon to trouble shoot by little increments rather than starting from scratch. It’s a natural search problem.

Pure Hockey is shirking their responsibility here and you need to press them to get the skates remade. True is not going to remake a pair of skates at the request of an end user, for several reasons. The biggest being that there is no guarantee that you as the end user understand how the skate should fit, (I'm not saying you don't). This is a reasonable approach for True. Pure Hockey has trained fitters, and if in the fitter's opinion the skate needs to be remade, True should proceed with the remake. To answer your question regarding closest thing to True, the answer is nothing currently on the market is remotely similar to a True skate. You may find something you like, but it won't be because it feels like a True.

I found the puck feel on the QX to be miles better than the QRL and the QX was a bit more forgiving when it came to hand placement. I'd say blade lie and flex rating are far more important than kick point or blade pattern.

I used to love watching him in Pittsburgh when he was in his prime. People thought he was on the downside and then he kept going in Washington.

Had a fantastic time at USA Hockey Multi-Districts. Also got to meet Kendall Coyne. This puck is coming back at you, sniped top right. Can’t even smile....??
