Actually your first 40 sharpenings on the original wheel (If you are doing the 6 passes) would cost you 14.97 not including tax and shipping of the machine. So probably more towards $16 per sharpening. After that you would then go down to the $1.66 and better to air on the side of caution and say that its a $1.75 with hydro and so on. And while the original 40 would be very expensive the savings down the road would be a decent amount. IMO you still need a good pro shop to get you set up to start for sure though even if you had one of these. And most likely a couple visits to fix the odd thing here or there. I can't see someone buying this for doing any more than their own skates at home.

Getting off the snide! Been a bit since I've lit the lamp.... Tonight finally grinned one. It was ugly, behind the net, tried to throw it in front for a chance, caught a skate, off the pipe and in, popped out immediately, under the goalie. I'll take it! Funny, besides me and the refs, everyone was getting at the faceoff circle. I skated to center ice and sat, finally had to say to my team "hey, Boys, that's a goal." Truth be told, don't know if the ref didn't make a big call or what, I had to look to see if a ref was at the scorers table to confirm....(when I spoke up) Wouldn't have mattered, but won in shootout, after being down 2. Fun night and better yet, love a game with two well matched teams. Won't post in the crap spot, but last shift broke a stick...

Anyone ever told you that you're doing it wrong wearing them over your goalie breezers? You're welcome!

This topic is getting embarrassing. If you're not willing to pay for the skates, don't buy them. If you are, buy them! In either case, your opinions are your own and can stay that way. Stop attempting to crucify the owners of a small, hand-made skate company because you disagree with their pricing structure.

If you are only charging to defray costs of equipment/supplies (i.e. not turning a profit), the IRS most likely considers it a hobby... http://www.irs.gov/uac/Is-Your-Hobby-a-For-Profit-Endeavor%3F

For me....since most of my days are spent shuttling my three kids (9/5/3) around the metrowest area...it is the ability to stick their skates on the machine and give them a quick buzz that has me excited. Hard to drive 35 minutes up to zwickers or an hour up to Bob at NoIcing when you have little free time and all you need is a quick sharpening. Truth be told...The thought of running an illegal skate sharpening ring is very enticing....I can be the Walter White of Skate Sharpening and start a show called "Breaking Blades"

A bit extreme, don't ya think. It's not like you're sending your kids to Harvard off locker room sharpenings.

Warrior thought they were taking a shot but all they've done is say that the sticks are essentially the same. They would be better off trying to point out differences than chiding Bauer for jumping on the newest buzzwords.
