Sparx Skate Sharpener - At home sharpener
215BroadStBullies610 replied to tamtamg's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Pretty much where I'm at. With the change at Pure Hockey, I'm 18 sharpenings away from paying for inconsistent cuts from all local shops. To drop almost 1K bones is asking a lot from me but I'm on the ice way too much to be dealing with unsatisfactory work. I was spoiled in college. Had a kid who never screwed up. I graduated in 2010 from school on the other side of the state haha. Sparx seems more of reality now. Whether I like it or not. -
Mine looked similar ha. I guess that's how True does their manufacturing? Maybe they will improve with their second go-around?
-
So good shafts but slipshod blades? Got it. I think I'll be done with this combo going forward.
-
Will do. I reached out via email at the beginning of this week. If I don't here back soon, I'll send the PM. Thanks. Thanks for the tip!

That's good to hear. While things haven't been smooth, I do like the way True sticks feel/work.
-
Ha I had no idea. The more you know, eh?
-
I'm interested as well. Right now, I have 3 A6.0 SBP shafts, one standard and other two tapered. The standard blade broke at the insert during my FIRST ice session (was coaching practice). This was over 2 months and I'm still waiting on True to fulfill the warranty due me ha. As for my tapered blades, I've only used them for one game (this past Tuesday). I had to switch sticks because the one became loose (I'm assuming/hoping its a lack of glue). It's been almost ten years since I've done the shaft+blade combo. Not exactly smoothing sailing early on but I want to give True a fair chance. Hopefully things will start to look better for me haha...

DP with the penalty shot goal last night...
-
Sounds like a goal scorer in the making...

I'm in total agreement with you. Unfortunately, these TV contracts have forced people to either pay for TV services or be without sports by "cutting the cord."
-
Yea, I've noticed it before and noticed again recently when Nolan Patrick's first NHL goal wasn't shown on the recap haha... All about greed. Sad but true...
-
More of a pet peeve here: NHL.com should show EVERY goal that happens in a game for each respective Recap highlight video. I can see the League cutting short highlights on the NHL Network. But if I'm going out of my way to go to every box score to see each game's highlights, I've got to see every goal. When I was in college (not that long ago) the NHL Network used to show every goal on NHL On The Fly. If you don't do it on TV anymore (which I disagreed with), do it online. It baffles me how little things like that get overlooked.

Hope they don't rush production. Regardless, it's a good problem to have. -
Haha we all had to do it in some shape or form. It will be worth it. Get evaluated from knowledge people and know the rulebook. You will have many more doubters than supporters every time you step out on the ice so do what you can off the ice to prepare yourself.
-
Haha yea, the updated website takes some getting use to. You are one step closer...

I like the signing. I saw how much better Giroux was when Jags played here in Philly. It was a couple of years ago but I do think he bring a desirable veteran presence for the kids...

VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne

I'd imagine he wanted to. From guys I know who work minor league hockey, they are usually given buckets, sweaters and pants. Could be wrong though... -

Starting in Goal as an Adult

That may be the biggest issue right there haha. Unless every player who shows up is either a stud and/or a ringer, you, the goalie, will automatically be called on to do more than you really should. The perfect roster number for beer league is 10 skaters and one kicker (slang name I picked in college for "goalie"). Even with that number, you'd need at least 7 players who know what they are doing. The only way you should be blamed is if you are letting in goals from center ice haha. I think you just have a less than fortunate manifesting itself every game. Has nothing to do with the person in the defending crease. -

That is a brutal record. Is that on you more so on the team or vice versa? -
Getting credit for Assists

I think that is the way to do it. Unless the league offers something for individual points, keeping game stats never made any sense to me haha. -

Genius suggestion. T-shirts and mugs don't mean much to me. Having earlier ice slots would be more than enough incentive to show up to games and play. -

No doubt. I know its not every player: don't want to put everyone under that blanket statement haha. I do agree with you in regards to standings. In the one league I play in, the champion gets 15% or 20% off next season's league dues. -

I understand keeping data to track your improvement (hence your own GoPro and Apple Watch). Emailing the league to correct your stats shouldn't matter if you already know what your stats are ha. Regardless, my point is that you see this MORE at the lower levels. People caring about their stats that is. Players take penalties in beer league haha!?
